Please inform more about what is going to happen to dept. managers. Nothing was told to us except there would be a strcture change. I guess they are waiting for after the holidays so they don't loose them. {dept. managers)
has anyone heard about there not being a photo lab assistant anymore, and just a regular assistant over the photo lab, and a dept. head (probly the dept mgr) to run schedules, maintenance, etc.?
b/c i've been trying to get into the asst. mgr. program so that i can one day become a photo lab asst. mgr., and not just a dept. mgr. ANY POINTERS?
as 4 year DM at a store, i have found the workload increasing and support decreasing. one example of this is now a new shelf availability program that is now in place. we were told last week by our market manager that if a certain percentage number is not met, then we will either be coached or terminated. is this a new company policy? this is just another added task to my job, and yet i have gotten little to no help from management to help me meet this goal. i feel as if they are trying to force me out.
hi, I work as a photo lab person, I took the job for parttime extra money. I have been hee 9 months, called out twice, this time my infant was put in a hospital for breathing problems. I returned to walmart on my next worday and my manager was very nasty did not ask about baby, I want to quit but she is a VERY scarey person and talks down to me. help
I am a Merchandise Supervisor, I have Depts. 1 and 82. My schedule is a rotating 8 to 5, 10 to 7 and 11 to 8, supposedly 2 weekends a month off but that rarely happens. The work load is very challenging. Not enough help of course, just 1 overnight stocker and myself. I love my job but it seems that they are slowly but surely taking away all the perks that make it worthwhile to be a supervisor.
There are two of us that work in Electronics as sales floor associates. We are both women and have passed the leadership assesment. Our Dept Manager quit a few weeks ago from frustration basically. We applied but were told by management that we don't qualify and our names didn't come up. I was a dept manager of pet for a few years before. I had to go on std for awhile because I was on bedrest with my last two babies. I was 80% vested when they cut me loose.
She has four and a half years in and years in before that. She was a previous dept manager of electronics.
Now in my store we are the ones that hold the keys and do price changes, mod changes, new release, etc and they are hiring cashiers supposedly part time for 7-4 and 1-10 shifts. They stand at the register and don't even want to take the keys while we work with customers etc on the floor.
They say this won't cut our hours. They did give the dept manager hours to a male associate that didn't even pass the assesment. They also took the listing off the wire without interviewing anyone. The wireless dept is also up for grabs but off the wire as well.
We are fuming mad, totally devastated and feel totally unappreciated. We also feel that we are being forced out as well. Everyday it's something different to get all knotted up about.
Julie,I live in Iowa we have shelf aval. every Thursday,we all use our out reports ,or use two telxons one in shelf aval.,the other in on the sales floor if it say a true 0 out then we scan it and you get the numbers they want. But we just stop doing that this week now all dept.managers, grocery leads have a weekly/daily list to fill out in all GM areas of the store and no reason why our own stuff is not done. So it gets real fun. Signed looking for new job.
I am a DM of Menswear. Our store does 120 million a year. We have a little over 300 associates. We have all the same problems. We cheated on shelf availability also. We have no associates, only hiring cashiers and only hiring part time. We are getting ready for the new change of shifts and they already got rid of specialty divisions and changed the assistants shifts and gave them a pay raise, but not us. We even have idiot doctoras that tell our associates they must have had previous health problems when they are injured on the job and that they need to see their own doctor that what ever hurts wasn't from their injury. All the perks are going away and we are becoming Kmart. We should all get together and do something about the home office.
you people need to wake up about walmart, there in this business to make money if they half to du-du on you thats fine with them. the mangers are told to keep there payroll down so the store has low overhead.i'm no rocket brain but at my house you half to bring in more than you pay out. if we were in a union they couln't be doing this, wake up folks, don't be afraid of the help that a union will bring to this company.
as a past kmart assoc i can tell you how great it was to start work for a company who had help(ha ha ) well for about six months thats how it was. almost four years later i am a hba dept mgr (big deal ) you do not have the people or the power to manage any thing but its your fault if it doesnt work. as for the new schedule and combining of depts most of the dept mgrs have already started to look for jobs else where. i feel i worked hard for the right to have a 7-4 shift and weekends off . i do not want to be forced into mang training for better pay but crappy hours. im a mom and woukd like to have some consistince for my kids. as of this time i really feel walmart is heading in the wrong direction i see it following in kmarts foot steps and its very dihearting if you look at kMARTS LAST YEAR BEFOR THE BIG B you can see the path of walmart. by the way im in a supercenter thats a 3mil store with 500+ ASSOC THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT MOST OF US ARE AFRAID TO TALK AT THE STORE> I DO NEED A JOB
I think that department managers should have to work all different shifts. I started Wal-Mart and I could not believe it when they told me that most department managers were gone by 4pm, but also had weekends off. to me this is crazy. As a manager they should have to be there at all different times except over nights, and they should deffinantly have to share the weekedn shifts with everyone else. I mainly say this because of the lack of training of associates. There is a major problem with this. Assistant managers are really busy and although they make as much time for us as possible, it is just not enough. I think that if department managers worked different shifts training would be a lot better and it would take a lot more work load off of the assistant managers during the evening shift. It would help if the department managers worked at least until 6pm on some nights.
I just wanted to add a comment about the new test for managers, I tried to take that test about 3 times and could not pass it, until I realized a little trick I want to pass along to others. I decided to choose the hardest thing to do as the answer to the questions, and finally i passed the department managers test, so then I decided to take the assitant managers test this time with out reading the test and useing my tecnique and low and behold I passed it... just passing this little trick on to everyone.. good luck

I am a 7 year associate and department manager. Wal-Mart was once a great place to work. Now it has become an organization with more secrets than the Masons. It is impossible to get a straight answer about upcoming changes to our duties, department consolidations, or even what the salary cap is for my current job level. I accept the elimination of overtime, merit raises, and other benefits, but I expect honest information when my employer makes changes that affect my ability to keep food on the table and proide shelter for my family.
i would like to know what the difference is between a department manager and a fresh area lead? i have been a lead in the meat dept. for a year now and i think i do the same amount of work sometimes more than a department manager yet i don't get the weekends off like them i have to work every weekend and i am not even in the same pay class as them

They are forcing our Dms out one by one. They are over loading them and riding them to do more and more. Some have as many as 5 depts now and no evening help. Walmart is shooting their own head off. I'm just sitting back and watching...
Yes I am a dept mgr. over grocery and now run 5 depts. That used to be split up. No pay raise, nothing just told here ya go. I now have shelf reports every day. And a outs goal of 10. Be real. I am tired of it.. I to used to like my job.

I am a dept mgr of meat, seafood and the sandwich or breakfast wall (97), Started out good but now the scheduling is so bad we have no coverage and hours cut. The load is too much and I was told I can't step down

We could get picks out faster if the Department managers could help a little bit with bin exceptions. Thank you for listening.
