Overnight stockers now have a quota of 'cases per hour'. Fall short and you get coached, three strikes and you're out. This applies to ALL stockers, nevermind the fact that some are older and suffering from work-related pain brought on by overwork and under staffing or due to picking up the slack for the 'favored few' who don't pull their weight! If you don't meet your 'cases per hour' quota you're as good as screwed. Coachings aren't always according to policy either. But thats ok, if they want to get rid of you, they don't have to play by the rules.

I have worked for wal-mart for 3.5years and I still dont make 9.00 per hr that's sad wal-mart is the bigest retailer in the world makes the most money and still is the worst and lowest paid job to offer for the type of work we have to do and the crap we have to put up with management nothing is ever good enough were under staffed so we have to work twice as hard and were still expected to bust our hump to throw as many cases they require and not get one click of overtime I have to keep my job as much as i dislike it to support my family of 4 i also have a full time day job I would like for management to have to work in my shoes one week they would quit they wouldnt be able to handle it and the sadest thing is I am more knowledgeable than half them

I have worked for Wal-Mart for 6mts...some say no reason to complain, I disagree. I am a single-Mother of three, I was trained for a cashier and hired in at 6.05 hr. My son started having health problems and my supervisor could not work with me, mind you I had never missed a day thru the Christmas Rush available at anytime they needed me.

I went to overnight stocker because of their ability to work with me which only entitled having the same days a week off to be able to schedule Drs. apptmnts???
Also promised 40 hrs a week with a
cut in pay because of my job class
changing????

Go figure my hrs have been cut back to 32 and needless to say no full time, I thought I was bettering myself by coming off the front-end because they have no FULL TIME POSITIONS for CASHIERS...
I work in a Super-Center 31 registers and on a good day they may have enough Cashiers to open half of them but that is giving them at least 4 "MANAGERS" on the registers....

When I applied I thought I could make a career here but they have made it impossible, and if you are able to get a second job which I cannot with three kids I only get to see them now for a few hours a day. Why don't they just be truthful that's all I ask NOT TO BE JERKED AROUND LIKE A PUPPET ON A
STRING!!!!

TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE ALL MANAGMENT, THEY ACK LIKE THEY ARE FUCKING EACH OTHER IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM W/ ONE THE OTHERS WILL COVER UP FOR THEM. TO SUM IT UP WAL-MART IS VERY POLITICAL, ITS NOT HOW HARD YOU WORK, ITS HOW MUCH ASS YOU KISS.

I have worked at Walmart for 6 yrs and am so tired of all the stupid lies and favouritism that goes on. I work 2-4 depts a night stalking, and by the time I finish the second dept, they are already telling me a fifth and sixth I have to go to. Seems everyone else gets help, I have to bust my ass, and all I get is grief. I have every other sat/sun off, and people complain about that. One lady's husband is a asst. manager at another (walmart) store in town, and everyone is afraid to say anything to her because they are afraid of him!! She sits on her butt all night long, doing about a 1/2 skid. It kills me. I have three jobs and am still barely keeping my head above water. I am full time too. Something needs to be done about the pay.
The managers will go out for coffee or order pizza for themselves and sit in the offices all night reading magazines. On hot summer nights, they won't even spring for water bottles for us. We had an associate die two yrs. ago from heat exchaustion...
Why are they being paid the big bucks while we kill ourselves doing all the real work??

I've been working for Wal-mart for 7 years now in Clovis, CA and I've seen just about everything happen around here. Support managers having their favorites and pets...Assistant managers sleeping with associates, going out to casinos with them, partying with them.....Store managers covering up and lying for these members of management who can't keep it in their pants. They tend to overlook sexual harrasment laws, and they deliberatly lie to make the associate with the complaint look like they're the problem. If your outspoken and stick up for yourself they red flag you and they do their best to run you out. I wanted to go career because I was brainwashed into thinking that Walmart was a good company...now at this point I've never been more ashamed and embarrassed to work with a company that has no values. And the worst part is that they continue to get away with it. So either your become one of them or you suffer the consequences. So why do i work for this place??? 2 kids, rent, gas, trying to survive (working as an overnight stocker). I've tried transferring but they won't let me go. I'm looking into my future, maybe another job, back to a technical school....I don't know. I do know that at 27 yrs. old I cannot stay with this company who demeans their associates the way the do.

I have been with the company for almost 7 yrs, and every year it has gotten worse and worse. At one time I had wanted to make a career out of it, but now I can't wait to get out. If you don't kiss management's ass then you are as good as screwed, even with a busted knee and a messed up back, they still expect you to to meet your case count and work just as hard. It's a sad day when the company wants to buy out our associates that have been with the company for more than 20 yrs. Even forcing some of them to quit, just because they get paid so much. The way the company sees it, they can hire about 3 or 4 new associates instead of paying for the dedicated older associate. To quote my store manager, "Every associate is replaceable no matter who you are, you think you are hurting the company or the store by leaving, well your not, there's someone else just waiting to take your place." That was told to us at a Friday morning store meeting.

I work at store 1006 in cordele Ga. The over night managers push the peoeple who do work, and do nothing to the people who don't. For example they wrote an empoyee up for down stacking remix to slow. when all she had helping her was a new assosiate. she is a very hard worker and they did it because, they exspected more. The managers told this one assosiate to help downstack two nights in a row, and he didn't go back there at all and help. All they did to him was make him appoligize to every one that was down stacking, because he don't work hard and they expected him to do something like that. This is just one of many wrongfull doings in this store, and they get worse.

I have worked at walmart store 60 in Troy MO for about a year. I believe it is like anyother store. The harder the job is, the less you get paid. That is the situation in every company. The crappy jobs are the lowest paying ones.

As for the management. Once again, like every other company I have ever worked for. There are as many a##holes as there are hard workers. There is only one manager, an assistant mang., on my overnight staff who works the floor regularly. The others try to do as little as possibe, but if things are looking dire, will pitch in a hand. Otherwise, they patrol the floor, or clean up the back rooms.

I am upset that the health benefits have been modified and cut again, but I am very happy that walmart has started selling generic prescription drugs a $4.

As for the associates who work outside, that is problem to take up with your store management. Use the open door policy, it actually does work. If no one in the store will listen, move your complaint up the ladder, don't be afraid of lash back. It can be taken care of with a simple, well written complaint, using the open door. Me and the other overnight associates used to have to go outside and push carts in everynight. While everynight we would come in and see the people hired to do this standing around and talking. We composed an employee complaint and handed in to our store manager with almost every overnight employee's signature. The stor manager now personally stays to ten to make sure the lot is cleared. Granted, there are a few shoppers who leave their carts, and many of us have no problem getting the extra break to push in, at the most, 30 carts, which takes about 5 minutes.

My walmart is a supercenter, and is open 24 hours. I have never been locked in, although Christmas night we will be. But, once again, this is no different than any other comapany. Stores which are closed for the night, always are locked up. The cleaning crews who come in, are also locked in until the store opens in the morning.

I am sorely dissapointed, though, that walmart has decided to put a cap on salaries. Unfortunately, this is also like many other companies. It offers and incentive, or a push if you will, to fight your way up the ladder and on to bigger things. Those strong and young enough will make, those not, will be stuck. They call it survival of the fittest.

Sorry if this offends anyone, it is just my personal view and opinion of, at least, my walmart. Who knows, maybe my view will change in... a month, a year....I'll let you know when it does.

I have also been with the company for over 10 years, it used to be a nice company to work for, but in the past 9 1/2 the company has gone to shit. I agree with everyone of you on some type of level. I work for store 532 in Gonzales,LA
this store is one of the worst stores that I have worked for. They treat their hard working assoicates like they are dog shit. the buggie system(get it your damne self or get fired) is getting old. there has been countless times that we have gone outside for a yehaw(roundup)
and the wonderful lazzy ass's that they hired to do the job to begin with are all haveing a Icee in Blimplies. Must be nice, to know people. Pay lets talk a minute about pay.WE ARE NOT GETTING PAID ENOUGH FOR ALL THE SHIT WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH. I feel a little better. you know someone was talking about inbreeding, well my views on this are as follows, if managment would stop fucking people in the trailers during the day and at night then there would be no reason to disscuse inbredding. OVer night stockers, to those of you that really do work, I thank you. I can't understand why they are only paying over night 6-7.00 an hour! un fucking beliveable. Lets see. work you ass off untill you pass out. or like one overnighter have a seizer, do a yehaw, run a register. help Gm pull there crap out, down stack the truck because evening crew in useless, go get your pallets for Gm cause nobody cares about grocery, deal with bullshit all night, can't even get a real 15 min break. yeah this sounds worth it. To all you over nighters. Keep up the great work. if it wernt for you the corprote fuck heads wouldnt get their fat ass bonus at the end of the year. while you and I get to eat our little 300 dollars off the smallest bill we have...THANKS WAL-MART, thank you for being the corn in my shit. sincerly 532.

yea i've worked for walmart about 4 months as an overnite stocker, pretty much we do ALL of the work, Truck unloaders are worthless, as when I start at 10pm I have to finish what the lazy unloaders didnt pull out till about 12:30 everynite, then stupid managers ask me why not finishing 5 pallets a nite.... I think Walmart could be a decent place to work, it's just the people and management that make it unbearable

Walmart has absolutely the worst management I have ever seen. I have been working overnight grocery stocker there just shy of 8 months now and I put in my 2 weeks notice a few days ago.

I really wanted to stay but I can no longer deal with management's lies and decent, or put up with lazy associates I continuously have to pick up the slack for.

We have one ASS manager that doesn't care about the grocery side. He will actually pull a few associates from an already understaffed grocery crew to go work the GM side. Then when they are complete, GM are to come over to help us in grocery.
Our shift is 10pm to 6:30am and some mornings, our remix truck doesn't show until 4:30am or even later. When it does, we are still expected to downstack all the freight and work it until it is finished. There will usually be a total of 4 associates to do this as GM rarely ever shows. Just recently a few grocery associates who were sent to help GM stayed over and hid there until it was time to leave. Myself and 2 other associates were stuck in grocery to finish a 900 piece truck which showed up at 3:30am (no overtime). These associates never gotten a verbal or written up. One of them went into the breakroom gloating about how they got away with it.

Another ASS Manager has no problems with making fun of other associates right to their faces. He will flirt and make sexual comments . One associate said he would go to higher management about it, when the ass manager found out he confronted the associate and said "Okay I'm the first one you have to go through so let's use the open door policy." This intimidated the associate and he dropped it. Thinking there was no one there to trust in the store I was going to help the associate constructed a letter that would be sent to the home office if he couldn't straighten the situation out with the store manager. Before he could talk with the store manager, someone apparently got wind of our plan, I was called to the office and threatened about sending a letter to home office. The associate then soon after quit.

We also have yet to get a quarterly bonus. Everytime we are up for one, there is some excuse. Even though sales are up considerably. This last time was due to, lot rent increasing, and the amount of accidents occuring in our store. Although the store manager alledgedly gotten his fat bonus.

These problems don't even scratch the surface of what else is wrong in store 1594 in Heath, OH . I have read alot of simularities in the comments above. I will be so glad to leave that hell behind. My only regret is leaving the hard working friends I have made behind. Maybe one day they will decide it is time for them to move on. If they don't, it's only a matter of time before marketing comes in and shuts that whole place down.

Haha, my fellow associates from 3206. Gotta love it!

To respond to this 4-month-employed [sic]overnite stocker, let me start off by saying, "Fuck you."

You probably sit and talk for hours on end while you only have a pallet to work for your department, which as the bitch you sound like, you probably stock cosmetics.

I, the truck unloader, spend 8 hours unloading YOUR frieght, stacking it ever-so-nicely so it won't fall when you take boxes off. (If you use wrap, you need to learn how to stack pallets better). I pull the freight YOU will work, and you have the audacity to say unloaders are worthless?

The reason YOU "have" to finish what the "lazy" unloaders didn't do, is because they are probably understaffed and overworked. The job is tiring. You wouldn't last a day back there without bitching about something stupid.

The management harps on your stupid ass because all you do for 8 hours is stock freight. That's it. Do you do carry outs? NO. Do you do break packs? Probably NOT. Do you grab carts because the cart pusher suck? NO. On top of our job, when we have extra time, what do we have to do? You guessed it, STOCK freight. You've probably got the easiest job in the damn store, other than door greeter.

Unloaders do their job, AND your job, AND get paid less.

I've been waiting to mash somebody down on this, and this jackass gave me the perfect way to do it.

Our GM side doesn't get remix trucks, we were supposed to about a year ago. Never happened. Every piece is touched at least twice.
It's not uncommon for us to receive trucks for 3000 pieces days on end, or when our management decides to "add" a truck at the last minute, doubling our workload for an understaffed department.

To this [sic]Overnite Stocker...pff, what a joke.

I work on the night stock crew at a Kroger, which also starts out employees at low rates but, the top out pay for a full time night stocker at Kroger is 12.35 an hour and you reach that in around 2 years I worked for Walmart as an unloader before it blew and they paid me 6.25 then raised me up to 6.50 after 6 months so I quit. All you walmart workers need to get a Union in there like Kroger has and then they cannot fire you for any reason. Walmart tells you Unions are bad because if you got union involved you would be protected and have rights.

For all those serious about changing the system at your Wal-mart store.I can relate i just started working for Wal-mart AGAIN overnight after about 9 years of not being in the company.Mostly because I needed something to supplement my education.I write..i don't know I guess because I've heard the same complaints around my own store.Wal-Mart has a tendency to discriminate, degrade and fabricate to their associates and have no explanation for it.Also no reason for it, I have been working overnight for them a little over 5 months now and have seen numerous people quit.Almost daily it's been for a month I have seen good people leave for things that can easily be corrected by management.Yet their solution is to change format and go on vacation. It's time to make chages people.Write down complaints, times, and dates and take them to HR.If they do nothing go the extra mile and bring it to their bosses and so on.No one ever got anything done by belly aching. However everyone deserves respect no matter who you are so demand it.As a college student no I don't plan on staying at Wal-Mart.Still I believe in teamwork and honest business practice.so people it's time to give Wal-Mart a smack on the hand that hurts.

Hi,I'm Jarrod from Store #754 in Statesboro, Ga(though I think they changed the number). I worked at my store for two years. I walked in every night because my ex took the car when she left. I lived like a hermit for this store. I worked all night and slept all day. I would show up early every night and wait for my shift to start(god forbid I clock in and start workin). I had two coachings on me. One for overtime and one for DAY-SHIT's handling of my department before I got there(It's a DD I know. Don't ask). Anyhoo... It was about time for my coachings to be taken off ONE YEAR AFTER THE FIRST ONE! About 2 weeks before I had a accident involving a bike in Recieving and my face. I had to get stitches. 2 weeks after that I was fired for LOW PRODUCTION! They said they saw me sittin on a pallet for 5 seconds. Isn't that a co-inky-dink? I become a workman's comp issue and they fire me. Happy fun fun place huh? Two years of my life GONE. I am older and wiser now. And a little bitter. Thank you Wal-mart.

I have worked for wal-mart for two years and if there is one thing i have learned it is that, as an employee, you have no rights. And forget about talking to any member of management about an issue you are having at work because not a single one of them fucking care. Can we all agree that there are plenty of people who are offended by foul language? Yet your store manager tells you it is ok for other employees to curse not only in the back room but on the sales floor! And God forbid you accuse one of those people who are in bed with management of something that is deserving of being fired!! You will just be told that they didnt see anything on the video tape, then get straight up YELLED at and blittled. OPEN DOOR MY ASS AND EVERY MEMBER OF MANAGEMENT AT WAL-MART CAN KISS MINE!! FUCK EM, IM QUITING!

Well I can say that my experiences with wal-mart have left alot to be desired. Management fits the mold of everything I have read here. I work in a new supercenter that just opened on the 19th of september and you guys are right they never listen to the associates, furthermore they treat us like shit and down talk everyone. Instead of listening to the associate and gaining some insight on the problem they tell you to buck up or git r done. Never mind that there is no way conceivable to get it done. I thought a manager was the person that stepped in and delegated authority and lined people out and came up with solutions to problems. In my wal-mart I have never had one manager step up to the plate its always been left on our shoulders. Its soooo frustrating no having the coverage needed in your area and no overnight stockers to help with the burden. The influx of customers is very high especialy during the weekend and most of the time its just me. Sometimes Im lucky enough to have second person.
Yet we cant get to our freight the area where they store it is way to small and people keep ordering. We have overstock that needs to be worked but you cant even get to it because there is freight in the way. Then monday through friday we get it down to a level where we can do something in the room and bam we get 7-10 more pallets. Then they get down our necks and I had a manager tell me supercenter standard is 65 cases an hour...what she failed to say was thats whats expected of an overnight stocker...which I am not and also If Im the only associate in that area during the weekend how can they expect me to do that number when i have thousands of customers in the store many of which have never been in a supercenter and do not know where anything is so I enact the 10ft rule. This job is the most stressfull job Ive ever had and Im near leaving.

all this is true about walmart over night stockers.
we get the shitty end of the stick.but we are the back bone of the store.you know i worked in a mill 5 years and it was production .we got rewarded for all the extra hard work we done.is walmart going to pay you extra if you meet your qutta no just a pat on the back hell sometimes not that.we are not on production .oh some of us do ten times the other person but when it comes raise time that lazy associate is going to get the same raise as you.i wuld like to see managers show me how you can throw hba with three pallets and zone it up and do all the brake backs that you get in 3 hrs in a half.and then got to the next dept. it cant be done .7 palletts in housewares and five in domestics and have to be done in 3 hrs.and do all the break packs to .they have lost there minds.

anybody here from 5073 covington, WA store? No, we can't communicate with day managers well speacially to the store manager, he'll just say, "thank you for your concern" just like that as if you didn't say anything important enough for him to deal with. And we do have to undo stuff that was done that day, 'zoning' for example, we all know that you guys just want to get the hell out of there and go home, but have a heart and common sense that your just making our jobs harder by putting stuff everywhere! yeah it looks good from a far, but they're not where their suppose to be!! Therefore harder for us to find where the 'home' is and to 'zone' after we're done!

Unloaders are the Hardest workers in the Company, Overnighters are the Hardest workers in the company,Sales associates are the hardest workers in the company, blah blah blah...I myself have done all these jobs in the store and I take it personally that one group of workers is attacking another group of overworked underpaid coworkers...Like everywhere we are personally responsible for ourselves and our work ethics and we should not blame others unless we are perfect...all we can do is our best. Another thing is...Management love it when the "underlings" bicker amongst themselves..it keeps the pressure off of them and the corporate higher up mucky mucks...its one big corporate blow job where the all fuck and service each other for their own personal satisfaction. and to hell with the little people...let them fight amongst themselves and let us get fat lazy and orgasmic on their own greed...at least we have the integrity to actually work for our pay..or lack of it...while the big boss man knocks his own legs out from under him..(the associate grunts) Goliath comes tumbling down and humpty dumpty proved to be not such a tough egg to crack...he just fell over cuz he got to lazy to keep his supporting legs strong.

What the fuck do overnight stockers do but goof off???? I am a Grocery ICS Associate, unable to what my job is because me and my coworkers have to pick up overnight's slack. I work in WM 407,the ultimate greed dripping monolith.

We pull pallets, unload trucks, work displays, do backstock, do new stock, answer stupid questions from cattle-like customers. I have Social Anxiety, it ain't easy for me. I am at the brink of suicide because of that Godforsaken place.

Don't complain unless you do ICS in a super busy store in the daytime.

And don't talk about pay either, there ain't none in wm anywhere.

I was hired as an overnight stocker today at Walmart. Was told that I would get a call letting me know when orientation is. What kind of work schedule can I expect. Are there set days off or are they random? Are there any days off?

I work at a Walmart in Illinois and I love my job. I work overnights from 10:00-7:00. I am a very hard worker and sometimes I feel like I'm not appreciated in what I do.I try my hardest, but it feels like it's not good enough. Words of praise might do wonders for some workers. (including myself.) I don't know just saying what I feel. But the 1 thing I DO NOT LIKE is points they give you if an emergency comes up. Especially when you are in the ER at the hospital. I was told by a manager that they would have to e-mail apparently the corporation (I think) to see if I would receive a point just for the fact that I was having chest pain, passed out and was transported to ER by ambulance. Was told just a note would probably not do any good. My husband called and told a manager that I was in the hospital. My husband said the manager wasn't very happy and that he sounded rude. Husband told me that the manager basically hung up on him. Thanks Walmart for your concern.

Hey.. I have worked for three different Wal-Marts and really it is just another job.. You are going to have the ups and downs just like any other job, big freaking deal.. I am an overnight stocker and it is a decently demanding job especially around the weekend when the truck sizes for remix is bigger than during the weekdays but someone has to do it, mainly if it wasn't for us, day shift would have a hard time because of the volume of customer traffic during the day, I have friends that work in the ICS department at another store and it is all about communication and hard work but it is a teamwork operation and if all party members do not work together, then yes one or more groups have to step up.. Me and one of our Asst. Managers talked one night of the lack of production from ICS and the Unloaders but I know what is expected of me and I do my best.. I have been assigned to one aisle in the grocery department and I know what is expected of me and I usually get finished before anyone else does, that way I can run backstock and help other people so the load is less.. It is just another job, if you like it suck it up and do your job, if you do not like it and all you want to do is cry and complain, who is holding you to work for Wal-Mart, no one has a gun to your head, JUST LEAVE, there are other jobs but you are going to come across the same problems that you had here, GET OVER IT....

Walmart exploits the good working associates.
They make them do more work and expect them to finish early so they can have time to help the not so good working associates finish their department.

Associates are called to get shopping carts all night and when the shift starts there are not enough carts inside to use when working on the BREAK PACKS.

The same associates have to do the break packs every night and are still expected to finish their department on time.

This job sucks and I dont know why you work there but I have my personal reasons. I wish no one gets hired so the managers would have to do some work around here.

Let me start off by saying that where i work is likely alot like where most of you work...And that my friends is a sad state of affairs.
It used to be ok,I have worked for wally world a little over 10years and have seen everybody i started with or that was in the store initially be either terminated or quit due to most everything people have been bithing about.I have done everything where i am located at 2120,Front end registers,GM department lackey,ICS,ICS supervisor,Unloader and eentually it landed me into my lovely overnight graveyard grocery stocker position.

Keep in mind,I have absolutely no desire to attain a management position from the bullshit i learned from being a supervisor.I was basically told i had to do nothing and actually got bitched at for helping my crew of 4 do picks and work freight...I was pulled into the office for a team members termination over a supposed fight that was caught on camera on one of my days off,When i said i wouldn't sign anything on that paper and wanted to see the video proof i got a harshresponse as to just "Follow the program" and i stepped down that day (even though they did fire him and i was coached for making an ass out of the AM that i said my points in front of the terminated young mans presence to).

Now we have a new manager,A hefty overweight shebeast that runs the joint like a nazi concentration camp,Alot has changed,Alot has gotten way worse.
To start,We have a total of 3 overnight grocery stockers,We get averages of 12 skids,3-4 usually mixed GM freight,We have 16 aisles to do and we are "Overstaffed" as they put it.These aisles must be 100% zoned also...That my friends is harsh labor.
We have little over 8 GM associates pulling 3-4 depts per night also.1 cashier and not even a greeter,Theft seriously could run rampart in this place and the bad thing is,Nobody really gives a fuck that is under management because they have terminated employees for pointing out thieves at certain times.

BlackFriday,Try doing that on setup with only around 10 associates total. It sucks,It really really does.

Management sugar coats lies constantly and pushes people past their breaking points,They talk openly to associates in the break room about who isn't doing a decent job compared to what they used to do (supposedly)and badmouth people worse than natural enemies on the floor.

We have of course the common asskissers who get their way all the time,And believe me i am no asskisser but i do get alot of leeway because i have been with the comapny forever and a day and i have a solid work ethic,But can i make a feasible career out of this?

Absolutely not.

I am almost 32 now,I feel as if i am 60 with all the breaking work i am required to perform on a nightly basis.I have been with 2120 for too long and am reaching what we call the thresh-hold in my store...It is where they find reasons to terminate you so they do not have to keep paying your wages and can replace you with fresh meat off the street at half what you make...I have seen it happen to everybody i know that has been there over 11 years,Well the start of 2009 will be my 11th so i suppose i better start looking for a new line of work.

To all here who have good stores built on morales and values i commend you for you are thelucky ones,As for the rest of us we are up shit creek without a paddle and that is all there is to it.

I started to work at wal-mart about a month ago cause i just quit another job and wanted to find something as fast as i could.I work nights checking the back for food items we need on the floor and bringing it out and then helping stock. One supervisor told me to start an hour earlier because the scanning gun resets everything at about midnight. So for 2 weeks i have been getting an hour overtime a day.People say i will get in trouble but they told me to start earlier and never said when to leave.I leave whenever i want and nobody says anything.Although one old bag that stocks shelves(or is suposed to,she usually just talks) is jealous of me getting more hours.
I work my ass off stocking and aranging the shelves when most of these people who have been there for a while are lazy asses and they stink like body odor even before the shift starts.Im going to have to tell them.
I eat food in the back when im hungry because im too poor right now to bring a lunch. Some asshole stole the chocolate bar i had in my coat pocket last night.Dont trust the wal-mart workers,im sure some of them are cool but some are old hags that think their shit dont stink but it does and they do even if they dont shit right now

I agree with all the comments above. I worked for walmart for 3 years and quit when i found another job as a technical support. Going from breaking my back and stocking 4-6 aisles by myself to just sitting and taking calls is alot better and i get paid about 300.00 more a pay check. I averaged 4-500.00 every 2 weeks at wal-fuck. Now i average 8-900.00 every 2 weeks and doing less work. Walmart sucks ass when you work there. Especially overnight. Every store has the same shitty situations. Night supports are lazy and you got the lazy associates who just do their little easy aisle and take their time just so they don't have to help anybody or do another aisle but when i'm done my fucken asshole of a night support tells me to help that lil fucker. Fuck the lazy bitches of the world and tyrant corporations with walmart as their leader. Rollback prices? Who gives a shit? Rollback my skin and suck my dick!!! Im free!!!

I worked for 2 different Walmart's in the past, about 3 years apart from each other and in different states.

The first Walmart I was overnight cashier/stocker/whatever. I was hired as a cashier, but overnight is skeleton crew, so between cashiering, was placed in lots of different positions. My coworkers were nice and I don't mind hard work, but I was the only one that really tried. They would fight over where I was being placed because they all wanted me in their dept. But I saw a lot of lazy associates that did nothing, and one even told me how to "look busy" while doing nothing to get out of work. They had worked there for over 2 years. Nothing was ever done with these associates, even ones that were obviously standing around and talking. But whatever, I'm getting paid to do a job, and I know it's like this everywhere. I just worry about doing my own job.

The thing about the first store is that one time I was asked to stay over late and instead of getting off at my usual time I was kept 3 hours longer. As I said I worked overnight, and I worked 2 jobs at the time, so I was already tired, but I figured cool, I get extra work and overtime. My normal shift was 8 hours, so this put me at 11 hours. (I didn't know the policy of no overtime, cause that was never relayed to me.) Well, when I got my check, I didn't have overtime on it. When I asked about it I was told that it was not overtime, because I worked overnight, and anything after 12am was the next day. Since I didn't work the following night, I didn't work over 8 hours for the day. Wow. Ok, whatever. Then I was told about the policy on no overtime.

A few days later I was asked to stay a couple of minutes over until the person scheduled to take over cashier got there. I told my supervisor it would put me on overtime, but they said it was approved and they really needed me to work it. I agreed, and low and behold, when I came in that night I got written up. I explained what happened and the only response I got was overtime was not allowed under any circumstance.

The second incident I had was about my break. I hardly ever got my breaks, and I would have to remind them about it. I actually don't care about my breaks, I'd rather just work through it, but they had told all the workers to be sure they got breaks. (apparently they had gotten in trouble for it before or something) Anyway, I continuously had to remind them, and again I hated doing it, because I felt like I was one of those people that just thought about taking breaks, and really didn't care about them at all. One day I reminded them of my break and they said, we'll get you on one soon. Then I had to remind them again. I reminded them several times, and even told them when I only had half an hour left. (I also told them I only had half an hour left of my shift). They said they would just let me go 15 minutes early. Of course when that time came, they couldn't, cause we were understaffed. So I never got the break. Do you know what's coming? I got written up for not taking second break. And when I explained what happened, I got the "it's your responsibility to make sure you get your break" speech. What was I supposed to do? I was cashiering, I couldn't just leave without telling someone... Doesn't matter, it's my responsibility to make sure I get my break.

When I worked my shift that night, I had the same problem of reminding them to give me my break. I even told them that I didn't want to get in trouble again. This time they let me go the 15 minutes early, and they said just don't clock out until the 15 minutes is up. Then as I was waiting to clock out, I got talked to for not working up til the end of my scheduled shift by an assistant manager. Didn't get written up though, thank goodness. But I had had enough by that time and gave my 2 weeks the following day.

A few years later, my husband and I relocated to a different state for his job. I wanted extra money so until I could get a better job I figured I'd try out the Walmart here. I figured the problem at the other store was just a fluke, and all Walmarts can't be bad.

When I went into the interview, I was asked why I quit without notice at the other Walmart. ??? I had given them a written 2 week notice and worked the whole two weeks. They had put me on the schedule for a third week and I reminded them when my last day was from my 2nd week, but they said they fixed it. Anyway, despite that the interviewers at the new store liked me (I have a strong history of good work ethic), and they hired me. One thing they really liked was that I was very very sick, had no voice, white as a ghost, and coughing... but I still showed up for my interview. I told them I was sick and very sorry, but I really wanted the job. So they praised me, and when I went through the orientation, I was still sick (sicker actually, but oh, well) The managers doing the orientation praised me, and then I worked a full two weeks, not getting rest, so couldn't get well. They all knew I was really sick and I still worked hard (I didn't want to start a new job by calling in) and they just kept saying how great I was. I did a great job, worked hard, they are so impressed... so on. Well, I wasn't getting better. I ended up in the ER and I had strep throat and respiratory infection. I called in and talked to an assistant manager, told them I wasn't able to come to work for at least 3 days per doctor's orders. He said OK. But just to be safe, call in every night. So I did that. I called in for 3 days, talking to an assistant each time. When I got back I got called into HR, they said I had 2 no call, no shows. ??? I told them the names of the assistants I talked to each time I called. (3 different ones). They said, oh there must have been some lack of communication. I didn't get written up for it, but when I went to the CSM, she said I wasn't scheduled since I had no call, no shows. I exlpained everything that happened, including that I had already cleared this in the office, and she said, "Whatever. Regardless, you missed 2 days and if you miss another day you will not have a job anymore." I apologized for being sick and asked her what she wanted me to do that day. She reluctantly gave me a register. That day and the following couple of weeks all of the CSMs and the other cashiers treated me terrible. I had come in everyday before I ended up in the ER, even though I had no voice (Which makes it hard as a cashier) and had numerous dizzy spells. I called in when I went to the ER (the nurse even looked at me crazy when I asked for a phone to call my work), and I called in all 3 days I was in the hospital. The doctor wanted me to stay out of work longer, but it was a new job, and like I said I have a strong work ethic. I was still voiceless, and having dizzy spells, but I was at work and they treated me awful. None of the CSMs would talk to me and even when I had my light flashing for various reasons, such as authorizations, etc, they would not come to my station, I would have to tell the customer wait a minute, and LEAVE my station to bring a CSM to me. It was ridiculous. The managers at the store didn't do anything about it.

I didn't stay at that Walmart, and as ashamed of it as I am, I didn't give them any notice. But by that time, I felt worthless, belittled and so frustrated I just couldn't bring myself to go in anymore, not to mention, still sick. I had to go the ER again, but figured it wasn't worth the trouble to call or go back to Walmart. Especially since the CSM had said I wouldn't have a job if I missed anymore work.

awww man... to be short and simple... understaffed, and overworked is a full description of the normal everyday situation when stocking... lol some nights when I stock frozen, there is NO ONE else in that department... NO ONE. I would speak really badly of that but I really cant because they dont demand that I do more than I usually would just because no one else is in the freezer. When im on grocery side, its a totally different ball game tho.

First off, I work for store 3214 Suffolk, Va. I work as an overnight stocker/electronics associate. being a 24 hour store i am expected to stay in electronics and make sure the products don't walk away. I have to run a register and pull freight. Some nights i get asked to do tasks that aren't in the description, "hey Kat, can you work gm recieving?", "hey Kat, can you help out in stationary/toys/sporting goods etc.?" But this is to be expected due to overnights there being WAY under staffed. Also due to a "hiring freeze" the entire store is on a skeleton crew day and night. with 31 registers day or night there is only ever 2-6 registers open. So this is to be expected and i'm not too worried about it. I make 9.45 an hour and that is after 5 months of working there.

DO YOU...UNLOAD TRUCKS?
No, That is the job of the unloaders unless you work on grocery side, then you have to unload the meat and produce trucks.

DO YOU PULL FREIGHT MOST OF THE NIGHT?
Yes. and run registers, and do floor maintenance etc.

DO YOU UNDO EVERYTHING DONE ALL DAY?
If you mean the stupid customers throwing things where they don't go, then yes, if you mean all the zoning that the other shifts do, no we have to zone just like everyone else. we just put up freight too.

ARE YOU LOCKED IN?
No, it's a 24 hour store, we can come and go as we see fit.

ARE YOU ABLE TO COMMUNICATE CONCERNS TO DAY MANAGEMENT?
Yes, either through our night managers, or we can stay a few minutes late and wait for the 6:30 day managers to finish their inspection.

I have worked for walmart for 5 yrs now as an overnight stocker in 2 differant stores. I have seen management having favorites for sure and it is terrible how you get treated if you don't kiss a** no matter how hard you work. Since I don't kiss a** and work pretty hard last night I had furniture, sports, auto and hardware it was 13 skids and NO appreciation. I have had some very good overnight managers who are helpful with work and home situations and did more then their fair share of running around stocking the shelves of the depts that had nobody in them that night because that person called in to work AGAIN... and at the moment have two who do nothing and I have to say I wonder where these two girls are all night.
In the defence of the managment I met my boyfriend as an over night stocker and he is also now a manager, he is a very hard worker and is gone from home most of the time due to work, you all think these people are paid big bucks? lol! We all deserve more money for the work we have to do. If you don't at least enjoy your job a little or the people you work with or SOMTHING other then the crappy amount we all get paid then I think you should try handing out some resumes at other places and for those of you with kids ( I have 2 and was a single mom working there, so no excuses please..) take your kids on a walk and hand out resumes while your at it. A 9.00 an hour jub REALLY isn't a hard one to find.

I work as an O/N stocker for store # 22 and can answer these..
DO YOU...UNLOAD TRUCKS? Yes, we do. God forbid the unloaders do something other than play with a hackey sack and listen to a cd player. Only time they work is when a manager is around.
DO YOU PULL FREIGHT MOST OF THE NIGHT? Yes. Including freight that is supposed to be day shifts job to pull.
DO YOU UNDO EVERYTHING DONE ALL DAY? No, we can't undo anything day shift does, as per the fact they hardly do anything.
ARE YOU LOCKED IN? No. Well not normally. We have been locked in the store about 3 times in the 2 years I've been on O/N.
ARE YOU ABLE TO COMMUNICATE CONCERNS TO DAY MANAGEMENT? We can try, but we're usually just given a stupid look. We've actually had to go through HO before, which resulted in a day manager losing their job within the company.

welcome to retail people. i agree w/ some here whom have said walmart is pretty much the same as any other big company out there, cuz it is. all the big companies are run by stuffed shirts, just like our country. basically, you have the working class, thats us the overnight stockers, unloaders, etc., and you have the sit on your ass and come up with the silliest policies you can think of stuffedshirt, evangilical types. thats the corporate leaders. there is a third type. i call them wanna be's. thats our store level managers that wanna be like a stuffed shirt. so i guess they fall into the latter category. although i have to say in defense of some managers there are too many piece of shit workers at walmart period. i would not make a good manager cause i would fire half of the staff at my store for lack of productivity. if you ask me we are overstaffed, another thing that i agree with management. if you ask one of the lazy asses that i work right next to at night he will say we are understaffed. i have literally thrown 1000 cases by myself at walmart. my record by the way is 1200 cases at another company where i was the crew chief and sent the other 2 guys home cause they were allergic to work. i feel every red blooded american should put your best effort in, and stop complaining about how much work there is to do and how understaffed we are. the next thing that will happen, is all us stockers/working class will be replaced by foreigners. we will see some stuffed shirt on t.v. saying we need foreign workers cause they do jobs that americans wont do. oh wait, i already saw some jerk say that on t.v. in my store generally speaking, i think we have an ok management team. but, then i'm the same guy that will work my ass off so the manager don't have to. one of our overnight managers is old school like me. in fact, sometimes im pretty amazed at how fast he can throw freight. and he's always out there throwing with us. he helps out wherever needed. the only exception with him is that he picks where or what he will do. zoning is not included in his plan. just like all of us he hates zoning cause its too boring. in fact, thats what he claims the perk of being a manager is, he can run through 5-6 aisles but he delegates the zoning to someone else. and yes he times us on case counts. earlier someone said you guys had to throw 65 cases/hour. what a joke. if you did that in my store you would be coached on productivity. here the minumum is 100 cases/hour including zoning. thats like 200/hour w/out zoning. i'll admit our grocery crew rocks. well the 4 of us, the other guy aint gonna make it, lol. our ass manager got told by him he would like to see him do it. well, he ran through the guys aisle then ran up to the guy and literally ran around him twice. when the guy said what are you doing, the ass manager said im running circles around you. the funny thing is the stocker is prolly in his early 20's and he began the race by taunting the ass manager by calling him an old ass, which he's prolly in his 40's. guess who is his lil zoning bitch, and trash bitch when he throws like a mad man lol. i'll admit, that was or is just wrong for our manager to treat him like that. yes, definately in any other grocery company stuff like that goes on and is acceptable, but not at walmart w/ respect for the individual and all. i think he should just fire the guy before he gets open doored. anyway to summarize, i think walmart is just as bad/good as any other company. i think they are more overstaffed then other retailers. i think that we should all put our best foot foreward and not be replaced by someone who will work just as hard, for less, and from another country. and im not saying everybody could throw like me, but there has to be some sort of effort. i have seen the people that try and look busy. iv'e been coached for ratting them out to there face and not showing respect of any damn kind for the individual. iv'e been with walmart 5 years and cant complain too much. i wish i was here when sam was still alive so i could make the comparison. all i can go on is other stores ive worked at. all i can say is my whole life that if you want a manager or boss to stay off your ass, dont give them a reason to be on your ass. just go in a couple mins early, slam a cup of coffee, punch in, and attack the workload. dont do the social butterfly thing, you don't have to kiss ass, don't waste more energy trying to look busy than if you just did your job in the first place. if you stick to these basic rules you shouldn't have a problem with work. but, this is just my opinion, and in the end i think you are all assholes and i'm not, and i love myself and i'm happy.

any and all comments are not only welcome but also encouraged.

I worked for the big wal mart off and on for four months and then again for six. and first of all to answer the big debate unloader/ics vs overnight stocker. the truth of the matter is we are overnight recieving which means guess what, we are unloading trucks too, plus working our freight, plus working the backstock that days is supposed to do(if we are able to do so without getting overtime) so the only difference between us and unloaders and ics is where the sun is when we start and finish. we have some really good unloaders and some not so good, three of them voluntarily fired themselves because they went "on strike" you cant strike successfully with three people. and because wal mart doesnt recognize unions anyway it was more like voluntary termination of employment than a strike. we are a smaller walmart than some. but for the most part our management is willing to listen, we are morosely understaffed, and some genius decided we could throw paper goods and chem along with our allready lethal grocery freight. there is rumor that they will eventually hire people to do this but.. there are lots of rumors few bear fruit.

sure it has its problems, but if you think walmart is bad, try working for a call center sometime.

I belive that everyone needs to pull there own,i dont belive in making someones paycheck. I try to talk to them and see whats wrong just what i see is people bringing there problems to work. Everyone has problems i have problems just dont make others suffer because you didnt get some or your rent is due etc etc.

O/N stocker #52, Just Quit. I was trained one way, shown how to doit another, then told that was wrong, and then told it was still wrong.
I got an expected coaching last night and thats not why I quit. I asked for simple direction on what I had to do to not get fired and through circular logic, I was told nothing...

So I quit. They gave no choice. I don't know what I'm going to do now.

Store 52 has it's Pet employees, oddly enough they are the ones that are the most vocal about calling BS on the managment. The overworked and Underpaid bit is old, Its like that all over and to complain about it is expected. Tough. The cap on pay is just a commitie run organization doing what it can to protect it's interests. The higher expectations on stressed out employees is just getting the most out of your workers.... thats all normal corperate crap.

What killed it for me was this man telling me there was no way i was going to get out of the fix i was in. Your screwed, man.

Well, I guess I am.
But now I am free, and your not, Mr Manager. Enjoy the roumors, enjoy the hour pinching, enjoy doing what should have already been done. Enjoy your favorite employees and know that you are only in their good graces out of fear and loathing.

Now.... Grocer, -snap- ,Check please.

Pretty much the same story as most of your stores except we are allowed to take as much overtime as we see fit. In fact it is frowned upon if you don't! I'm usually there early hauling freight and leave late hauling back since I'm the only one hauling back in till 7 and then the ass managers/support kick in because they want to go home.

To those who mentioned how the harder you work, the more work gets put on you while lazy people can sit back at the same pace, this is VERY true.

Do them a favor and bust your ass once for them and they will turn you into their work horse.

Though it's not all bad working there. You get a break every two hours, you can call out of work simply by calling a hotline, and if you work third shift, you pretty much don't have to deal with customers and can work on your own.

All of the comments are true for almost every Wal-Mart store. There are a few stores that are nicer. I work for Wal- Mart for almost 6 months. It sucks. I am a cart pusher making minimum wage. They treat you bad and give you no raises. That is ridiculous. I had 40 hours guarenteed a week. Now they are cutting my guarenteed hours. Instead, they are giving 40 hours to the lazy jerks who don't do anything, just hide around all day long. What a discrimination! That sucks. I reported a lazy cart pusher and they didn't fire him. Instead, they let go of a hard worker. If I would be a manager, I would fire all of those discriminative managers, who walk around like guard dogs doing nothing at all. Their schedule also sucks. One day you have to work a late night shift(3pm- 12am) and the other day you have to work an early morning shift(6am- 3pm). Thats like sleeping in the break room. Managers don't care about nothing. There are some CSM's who send cart pusher's to break when there is no carts for customers. Then, the assistant manager comes out mad at the cart pushers, telling us that we are not doing a good job. I have never seen my manager push carts! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! I only saw him walking around us like some kind of a guard who doesn't know where he is at! That is funny and ridiculous! You wouldn't believe it! Please stay away from being employed by these disciminative Wal- Mart stores. Only, if you have no other choice, and need the money, go head and work there! Thanks!

I work D91 O/N at a Supercenter in PA, and have to say that I enjoy my job a lot. There are 3 of us for my department O/N. The FDD truck is usually 2.5k every night and we have little to no trouble getting all the frozen freight sorted to its respective departments and all of 91's stuff put away.
Management leaves us alone most of the time and when they do bother us it's to have us go work in another department that is understaffed for the night. I wouldn't say that all the managers are rocket scientists, but for the most part they do what they are expected to do.
I do have to admit; however, that I was hired when my store was desperate for O/N employees and as a result I make far more an hour than I should, I guess.

I work at store 1962. I used to be an overnight stockman, and i had to get off of that shift before it killed me... not the hours, but the demands of the job. It all started off fine, but then they got into cases per hour, and because i am younger, at the time of working on thirds, i was 18 and 19, they thought that meant i should not only do twice the work, but that i could do it faster than anyone else and get pushes harder. I am a hard worker and always will be, but forcing a petite girl to be pulling all of pets freight (bags of dog food) all night long by herself without pushers... doesn't quite seems right. Whatever happened to team lifts, and team pushes?? Not at 1962, because that would mean that they might have to hire more people and dish out more of their money. So instead, they ran me ragged until i ended up in a wheelchair for messing up my back so severely. At 19, not too many people have severe back problems, but i did and will now have chronic back problems for basically being worked like a pack mule.

Lol wow, no love for walmart here. I was a overnight stocker for about a year and then I was promoted. I'll be honest overnight stocking for walmart was the hardest, lowest paying, most unrewarding job I have ever had. I respect walmart as a multi-billion dollar business but their clear disrespect to their store associates is easily seen in the measly amount they pay and the extreme amount of work they expect.

It is understandable to cut liabilities and increase profit, but where do you draw the line between profit and ethics? The average income where I live is 90k a year, and the cost of living is constantly growing. Walmart has seen fit to start the pay scale at $7.25. Assistant managers do not make much as well it starts at 35k. If you want to do the research this is the DC/Northern VA area I am referring to.

Walmart has clearly ignored the integrity it was built on by Sam Walton. I sincerely hope things change for the employees there, but things will not change until employees there do something about it.

i have worked for walmart as a cart pusher and then a cashier and moved to manager. they push you and push no matter what spot ur in. life is not easy when u work for a company that does not always care for the people that are the back bone of their bussiness. i left the company and then come back to do money problems, needed a second job. i switched to over night and i watch as many other employees face the same problems i hav seem. we start off by saying the unloaders they have a hard job but who doesnt in retail it all sucks. managers yes they do have the easy life and they only make on ave. bout 30-40k a year. it alot more then we as hourly make. but u hav to look at there side they have done the shit work and then see how shitty some of the workers are so they get on ur case about it. as a stocker i can only do so much in one night, my store is only 7-11 and the night goes by fast. we work bout 7 hrs and the rest of the time is cleaning up. but when i look at it i come into work watch as people talk on their cell phones in the unloading area thinking they will get away with and then i pull pallets to the floor. work the remix and go to the 1hr long lunch come back and get yelled at for to long off a 15min break. from there clean and zone which i hate the most. life is always the same but if u kiss the right ass it could help. the sucky part is i dont kiss ass i just get on the managers good side bc i work and just do my job. its how i become employee of the month and then manger. 2 dollars raises with a year. the hard u work is not always better but u just need the right person to see ur work and dont cry bout the shit that ur not going to change, trust me i have tryin and it does not work. anyway best of wishes to those who love walmart. not me!

Just for all of you that are complaining about the night asst walking around and doing nothing, that's their job! They are there to make sure everything gets done. If they are stocking on isle 5 how do they have any clue what's going on in the gm backroom or the frontend? I know stockers get upset and think we are all lazy but if you realized how much the overnight asst is responsible for you would understand. autopicks, bin exceptions, audits, task management, binning overstock, floor crew, zoning, making sure the stockers are in thier area and not texting somewhere and the list goes on and on. I guess I'm just pissed so many people complain about working for walmart but yet you still work here. If it is so bad, quit! Good luck finding another job right now. I will say the same thing that I have said to several associates, if you leave you will wnat to come back. It happens all the time, and I rarely rehire someone who quit and wants to come back, unless they went about the right way. Most people don't work out thier 2 weeks or just stop showing up. Anyhow, show some respect, work hard and take pride in your store. My store recieved the supermax bonus all 4 quarters this year because we have a good crew and people that care. That's an extra $1680, so keep that in mind. Thanks and I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this post but oh well, if you don't like it tough, it's the truth.

I'm an overnight stocker for the supercenter #2629 in Northbridge, MA and have for a total of 4 and 1/2 years. Recently, I left the company to have a child and when I returned, I was given $3 less an hour to do the same thing I did when I left. I began as an overnight stocker in GM. Toys at Christmas time to be exact. I was constantly praised for high productivity and told I was to get a "merit raise"....remember those, anyone? To make a long story short, the company supposedly did away with those right before I was to get mine. I did not get my raise after my 90 day review (they USED to do that, too). I had to wait until I had been there 6 months since I had originally been hired as temporary holiday help. This was the same reason I missed out on the annual myshare bonus. In year 2 I was in a horrific car accident and lost 2 months of work. I lost my bonus that year too since I supposedly hadn't put in enough hours to get the full time status. For every review I have ever had, I received "exceeds standards" and got the whopping 60 cents an hour for each raise. I then put in for a promotion and became a department manager. Must say, it's the only company I ever worked for that I had to take a pay cut in order to get promoted. Because of finances, I demoted myself back to third shift just to make ends meet.
When I came back, I was put in dry grocery...and was not pleased. In our store, like most of the stores I read about here, we're ALWAYS short-handed (although according to management, we're overstaffed). We help unload the trucks, pull pallets to the floor, downstack, stock, pull pallets back, wrap them and put them up in the steel ourselves, bin what we can, do picks...ect. We've even had to go clear carriages out of the lot. So yeah, quit whining about your seven pallets. Whoopty-do. Our store is open until midnight and opens at 6am so we have to try to work around customers. When I left to have my son (high-risk pregnancy) I found out I would have to reapply and go through the whole orientation process again. I took the $3 pay cut (due to new company policy again)because they considered me a new hire and not a re-hire. Funny though, I didn't have to retake all my CBL's. Those were apparently still good enough for the company but my time served was not. I got screwed out of holiday pay because I hadn't been there 6 months (after coming back) when Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years hit. I am also getting screwed out of yet another myshare bonus for the same reason.
I work with lazy assholes, who for some reason are allowed to be lazy. It seems that the harder you work, the more they expect from you and the less you get paid. Yet the useless assholes who stand around socializing all night are allowed to do just that. It doesn't matter how many times you complain about it or who you complain to...nothing ever gets done.
Here are my top ten reasons Wal-Mart sucks...
1. The pay SUCKS for the amount of slave labor they expect from you.
2. The MORONS who do the ordering are apparently crackheads with no common sense.
3. There is NO accountability whatsoever.
4.The open door policy is a joke. When you have a serious problem and try to take it to management, they talk around the issue and never do anything to solve the problem.
5. Wal-Mart will hire ANYONE. From what I have seen, some don't even have to be literate.
6. You are NOT allowed to think for yourself. That is frowned upon. We are simply trained monkeys who put shit on shelves. It is not our place to question the powers that be.
7. Favortism DOES run rampant in every store. I know...I've been shipped to enough of them to see it first hand.
8. Members of management receive a lobotomy as a prerequisite to promotion or hire.
9. We pee-ons (as our lovely deparment manager calls us) have no rights. We are interchangeable and replaceable. There are always a million people out there lined up to take your job (but somehow never seem to last more than a week once hired)
10. Corporate greed has destroyed Sam Walton's vision. Now the workplace where "respect for the individual" used to come first, has become "respect the all mighty dollar". What they DON'T tell you is that the dollars you respect, you'll never see.

There are slugs on every shift, in every store just like there are people like me who bust their asses and get shit on. It's the Wal-mart way. Enough of the finger-pointing at all the other "Zeros" in the company like me, guys. Stop bickering amongst ourselves and point the middle finger straight where it should be.

Wal-Mart: Always low wages, always low morale. Always.

I have worked for Walmart for less than a year, I make more than $9/hr, and I'm not a huge bitch like the rest of you! "wah they make me work hard". It is a job! Stop fucking whining and get back to work! Our unloader team is #1 in our district because we're not fatty fat lazies like all of you sound right now! We usually have between 4 and 6 people per night, and we get all of our tasks done WAY faster than they are scheduled, PLUS working freight! WANNA KNOW THE SECRET?! All of your team members must be constantly making an effort to prove that every other team member is a BITCH and they are WAY better!

If you don't like your job at Walmart, then quit! Easy! You'll have more time to sit at home and whine on blogs :)

If you want to be a "favorite" with management, then do your job efficiently and go above and beyond. This will also get you larger raises and you can stop crying about your low pay.

What I'm trying to say is... Get on our level you fat nubs, and those of you who are on our level, let's hang out and flip over these other bitches pallets and tell them how much they SUCK at stacking!

I work at walmart in Russellville, Ar (store 58 I think?)- and I am an overnight stocker. On average the gm side of our store gets 2,800 (extremely light night) - 5,000 pieces. The grocery side usually has 1,600 pieces (this number is pretty steady although sometimes it will hit over 2k a few days in a row). We run only three registers at night.
When I arrive at work at 10pm the unloaders are usually just starting to pull freight. A while ago at least two of them moved to a different shift and they were not replaced - leaving this crew extra understaffed. We ALWAYS help them. Every department I have been in I have always had to pull my own freight to the floor. I do not mind helping pull freight... the part that gets me: we almost always have to re-stack the six wheelers and pallets because they were poorly stacked in the first place (the excuse they give is "we cant get out of here early if we do it right"). After having multiple pallets of freight topple over on myself and others around me it also bothers me to see the unloaders hiding afterwords - thats right! The unloaders in our store RARELY have to do anything when they finish, they hide or go home early.
Our store recently decided that break pack must be done first (thats right! the overnight crew in our store does EVERY BIT of break pack...) though the break pack is usually not sorted in time - so we start on freight and then stop and move to break pack as soon as it is sorted and out. Although the same associates do break pack regularly they still cannot sort it correctly. I can understand some mix ups (we are human after all right?)but what I'm talking about is around 30 minutes of returning stuff to its correct department (the cashiers used to help us with that, however, since they are few and far between they no longer have the time.)
We are understaffed, as every other store mentioned here seems to be. We are LIED to about how long the little machine says it should take us to finish our freight. We are expected to UN PLUG everything the previous shift plugged while doing returns, and also to UN PLUG our over stock from the previous night which first shift throws up on the shelf within the first 10 min. of their shift.
Our back room(ics) team is horribly over worked as well , and it always seems to be both their fault and ours that there is too much stuff to cram in the allotted space ( although we have "the best backroom in our district", it is not all binned correctly and so to compensate for the lack of knowing how much crap we have , it is over ordered). Also the picks are always horribly incorrect, there may be 5 carts of them and half of one cart will actually go out (but we have to check it ALL).
Two of the three ast. managers we have on the overnight shift are o.k., not the best , but they at least TRY to treat us like humans. The third one however is a bitch. Her daddy is a store manager at a store in the next town over - needless to say he had a great deal of influence in her current position. She is very young and very ignorant. If you ask her something about the store, about rules, about where something should go, or what something means... she gets the "dear looking into headlights" face and has NO CLUE what you're talking about. We had to explain to her what POS was ( for those of you that do not know it stands for point of sale ... which means when someone buys it it is put in the system and after awhile the product is automatically re ordered).
Just yesterday she went to pets and yelled at the poor kid over there because he had too much over stock. She took most of it and bitched about how it could go out her or there (in the wrong places - its called plugging, its VERY annoying and the department manager will hate you for it). So SHE takes the overstock and plugs it, the next night he gets written up because the dep. manager in pets complained that her department was a mess since everything was in the wrong spot (and did not all fit in the right spot).
When this particular ast. manager is at the store the others seem to disappear - as if they hide from her, she is in charge.
She treats people that have been working for walmart for 10+, 15+, 20+ years like absolute shit.
We get the nastiest responses when we call in sick. The rules for how many days you can miss are rapidly changing. Fellow associates are being fired left and right and no more are being hired. On a 4,000 + gm piece night they are telling some of us to work 3 departments. Grocery associates are having to down stack their own stuff then work it (we have two overnight down stackers that help but they would never be able to do it alone).
Anything that another shift does not want to do WE get stuck doing. I make $7.30 do do about 4 peoples jobs and then get bitched at.
Oh... and for those of you saying "stop bitching and get an education... blah blah"... I AM getting my education... Heres how my sun/mon goes-
SUN NIGHT 10pm - start work,
MON MORNING 7AM - get off work, MON 8AM-9AM class (world civ),
MON 10AM-11AM class (biology), MON 11AM-12PM class (comp II),
MON 12PM-2PM lab (programming), MON 6PM-9PM class (film),
MON 10PM work!

Many of my fellow associates take classes (though not as many as I do), or have a family to care for during the day - UNLIKE the bitch of ast. manager that has the guts to tell me (and every one else) that I lack a sense of urgency.

So I bust fucking ass all night and it isn't good enough, I go to class all day and strive to make A's and not drool all over my notes.

There is ONE good thing about working at walmart: IT ENCOURAGES ME TO DO THE BEST I FUCKING CAN IN SCHOOL SO THAT I AM 100% POSITIVE THAT I WILL NOT BE ONE OF THOSE WALMART ASSOCIATES THAT HAS BEEN THERE FOR 25 YEARS AND STILL TAKES OUT TRASH AND GETS SHIT ON EVERY DAY BY SOME 20yr OLD BITCH THAT DOESN'T KNOW THE MEANING OF A HARD DAYS WORK.

As a side note I applied to may places in town and the first response i got was form walmart. I pay for my own school (mommy and daddy are not in the picture at all- it comes out of MY pocket). No job= No school= right back to walmart for an even longer period of time. This would be why I wont quit, and I'll bitch about it as much as I want :o!

The other day I was given a suggestion by the bitchy ast. manager, I don't particularly remember what it was... but she said it would help improves my chances at moving up in the company...
1. They have not hired up from within the whole time I have been at the store, but they have hired brand new people for higher up positions.
2. Walmart is not a lifetime job for me like it is for her - since daddy got her her job and no one else would hire her if you paid them.

Jobs are getting hard to find , those of you who think that people can just up and quit a job must not be old enough to work the overnight shift and/or still live with mommy and daddy who pay for everything and can support you if you quit.

This is the first time I have written about my walmart experience- feels nice to get that off my chest, although... thinking about having to go back brings my spirits back down a bit.

I've been with store number 0533 in New Iberia, La. for a little over two years as an overnight stocker, usually in frozen food. I started at $7 an hour (with a $1 an hour overnight differential), and now make $9.30 an hour. Last year, I was promoted to the cash office, but demoted three months later because I didn't work fast enough. I was given a hell of a lot more training as a stocker (how hard is to read a label and put stuff on shelves?) than I ever got in the cash office. I told my assistant manager about this many times, and he never saw that I got proper training. I was demoted the night after Hurricane Ike, which was chaotic across the board. Most employees called in, and the store was running with a skelton crew. The store had closed twice during the day, first because the power went out, and then because management couldn't get enough people back to work. When the store closed, an assistant manager and the store manager went around collecting the register bags, but wouldn't let the cashiers print out their store accounting reports or anything. They just threw all the bags in the safe, along with the money from the CSM podium, the key to the CSM podium (which no one took a few minutes to leave a note about), and a change order that had been received, but not logged in. The assistant manager also broke the key to the money drawer in the lock of the bulk change box (the key was already bent and taped in the middle, and he didn't know it was the wrong key). When I came in, I couldn't balance the office because I couldn't get into the bulk change box. The CSM couldn't get into her podium because we didn't know where the key was, so I had to stop work twice to let her borrow my key. I had two sets of bags from every register (more than 70 bags total) to count and key in. Another woman was scheduled to work with me, but she didn't come in because she thought the store was closed. She had driven by around 8 p.m., before the store reopened, and went home when she saw everything was dark. Another cash office worker was scheduled to come in as a stocker, but when she called in to see if the store was open, her son was crying, so the assistant manager told her to stay home with her son (as if other people working that night didn't have families). The store manager, Patricia Johnson, was furious that she couldn't open all the registers at 7 a.m. on the dot, so she told me that if I didn't voluntarily change my career preferences and step down, she would write me up. Meanwhile, another cash office worker who constantly screwed up the balance of the office was promoted to a support manager. She applied for a position as an assistant manager, but couldn't get it because she has too many complaints against her regarding her bad attitude. Some of the assistant managers screw up the office's balance by giving out register loans from the safe without writing them down so someone can do a CFT (cash fund transfer), or by neglecting to count the change in change orders, and logging in the whole amount of money that was supposed to be received from the bank, even though it's not there. The CSMs don't count their podium on a regular basis, and usually wind up losing money before the shift is over. The podium's supposed to have $2,000, but it could lose or gain $200 without explanation. When I took the job, I gained fifty cents an hour, but always went home with a headache. At evaluation time, I had had the job for only about three months (I don't think it was even that long), and I met or exceeded all of their expectations except ability to finish the job on time. Even though I had been a frozen food stocker for most of the year, and mostly exceeded at that, Wal-Mart's evaluations cover only your most recent position, so I got the mimimum 40-cent raise. Of course, they had already demoted me by the time I got the evaluation, so I dropped from the $9.80 an hour I was making in the office to the $9.30 I'm making now. Meanwhile, I've heard the new maintenance guys say they STARTED at $9.30 an hour, which I've had to work for two years to reach. And 50-cents an hour more isn't much when you're held accountable for about $300,000 of someone else's money every night.

But to address the overnight stocking situation, I help unload the meat and produce truck almost every night, and most of the store's jacks don't work. Some don't pull well, and hurt your legs and back, while others barely raise up, or raise up, but to lower them, you have to step on one of the jack's legs while putting your other foot down on the little lever on the right-hand side. Our hallway is so crammed with carts and pallets that sometimes we can't make it through there, and have to pull the pallets out onto the sales floor and then through the produce doors. Sometimes we accidentally knock over cases that have been left hanging over the back of a rocket cart, and the items get broken or trampled on. Saturday night, we damaged a whole case of sauerkraut that way, and later, I saw that someone had put a whole case of broken jars of spaghetti sauce in the sink. Last year, our store's shrinkage was $1.8 million, and I can't wait to see what it's going to be this year. Not only is shoplifting rampant, but when the electricity went out for Hurricane Gustav, we had to throw away everything in the cold areas because Wal-Mart doesn't have generators to keep food cold. The store also did some remodeling, and shut down the alarms at the door, and sometimes dimmed the lights overhead to save electricity, but of course that gave everyone in town more opportunity to shoplift undetected.

The former frozen food department manager (the same woman who worked in the cash office and then moved up to support) was a Nazi about zoning, and wanted me to spend half the night zoning so it would look perfect when she came in at six in the morning, but she and her pets did no zoning during the day (unless it was to finish what I hadn't yet completed). Then, she would immediately set about screwing up this "perfect zone" by plugging all her outs, which put more work on me that night.

We've had to clean up behind the meat dept., which has a bad habit of leaving empty pallets and big gray carts full of cartboard out on the salesfloor. The overnight assistant managers get on the PA system every night, starting at 5 or 5:30, reminding us to start cleaning up, to remove all pallets and buggies from the salesfloor, but somehow, none of the managers on the first or second shift seem to notice the mess the meat department leaves behind.

We also have CSMs putting thawed-out frozen food items that have been sitting at the service desk all day back into the freezer, or just wheeling buggies full of milk, meat, and frozen stuff to our area, and leaving it there for us to deal with.

Management threatens to write us up almost every day if we don't finish our area and move on to the next one. One assistant manager told the overnight grocery crew, "I can fire every damn one of you and hire a whole new crew," because they weren't working fast enough. Everyone complains that they feel like slaves, or dogs. A Rose's store is soon to open in town, and a lot of people have already applied there. In the last four months, at least four managers have been demoted or fired, and one quit because the store manager was verbally abusive to him.

On three separate occasions that I remember, someone has forgotten to order a new dumpster after the old one was taken, so we wound up with twenty or more buggies full of garbage, including rotten meat, sitting in grocery receiving, a few feet away from the groceries.

I read all of these posts and I'm glad I don't work there. It seems like a lousy company to work for and I've heard so many horror stories about how the company treats its employees.

I work overnights at Kohl's doing merchandising and truck unloading and started a blog about it. Check it out at http://workingatkohls.blogspot.com

I think Walmart Is a Great Place to work so I can’t wait to start doing something with them anytime soon! I am so excited about my new overnight stocker job at walmart!

I hope no one misinterpret my thinking; because I read most of the comments on this blog concerning Walmart’s nagiative attitude toward hard working employees and it made me sad but I belief not all Wal mart stores has that problems and if they do, it would be a good palce for a job in the future.

Well here's a good one. A fe days after a manager made a comment in a meeting we had: "payroll is a little high" The fired me claiming I stole a 1$ bottle of water. Yet they refuse to show me the video, or even have the manager that reviewed the video talk to me. Then they kindly pointed out in the small print that they are allowed to fire anyone at a moments notice for no reason at all if they choose. Now I'm screwed, everyone thinks I'm a thief. What the hell am I supposed to do now? I live in a small town, there are no more jobs available. And I busted my ass for those jerks.

As one of millions of Wally's kids reading this, it's unbelievably amazing that we ALL share almost identical stories about 1) overworked, 2) underpaid, 3) understaffed, and 4) office politics, not to mention no appreciation for the work we do.
I work at a Neighborhood Market and we have the same issues. Management cutting each other's throats behind their backs, no support for associates, tons of work and a barely functioning tiny crew. Box counts, multiple departments, and JANITORIAL WORK by stockers! And the ironic part about all this is we are expected to stay late when we don't finish the load (which is quite often since we are running on 6 to 7 people TOTAL!), staying PAST our scheduled time and into overtime----but guess what?? Then they get pissed when we HAVE overtime and DEMAND we take longer lunches, come in later, or leave early in order NOT to pay you for that overtime THEY wanted you to work!! Does that make ANY sense? So what's the motivation for us even WANTING to stay late or work harder? More pay? No. More hours? No. Decent evaluations? Pfft! Hell no.
I'll post more another time. Just happen to find it randomly and I HAD to chime in.
Hang in there, associates.
More to come...

Love,

I've been working at a local wal-mart in AZ for not long now, and reading you're comments I have to say I see it in my store also. By the way I'm also like many of you stock in the evening 10:00pm-7:00am and manydays I end up staying way later. My issue is this for my dept dairy/frozen the WIRE qoutes 45 cases an hour, now being ex military I strive for 60 an hour, in the WIRE all freight is supposed to be already broke down on L carts by aisle and never are; Like most of you our store is also understaffed in the back room especially for a super center, oh wait a minute we have'nt officaly opened as one yet, but we are fully stocked and running as one! On any givin night we have to backroom associates for the whole supercenter. I was also told straight up from a manager during a "not a coaching or verbal warning" but a meeting that he doe'snt need a reason to fire me. Will suck for these third shift managers when the right employee starts recording all these verbal assualts, warning's, pushing you to do more than you're job discription with not even a thank you, but more like a who cares. I dont know but I wish I seen this web site b4 I decided to apply for a job here!

In our lace it's all on who you blow or who your friends with...I don't know whos gotten they evaluation but not it's harder to get the .60 cent u can go from two zeros to 40 50 or 60 cent rasies... It's pretty sad when your on your last 15 minute break and a support manager gets caught getting head from a stocker an then writes up the person who sees it which by the way was only one person he wrote up but everyone outside saw him..or if you use to be a csm an left more then 2 grand out unattend not once but twice you get promoted to dept 50 without a coaching hmmmm...So yeah walmart is one big fucking std that needs to die

I've been working for wal-mart for about 1 1/2 years. Over the course of the time there, I have discovered something that I like to call 'the open-leg policy.' This policy will grant you freedom and passage to anywhere in the store without the fear of getting fired. I have seen people come and go at my store and people that have been given 'special' treatment just because they're sleeping with mangement.

Another issue I have is that people with F.M.L.A abuse that like it's going out of style. For those that don't know what that is, it basically insures you with a job when you have to call in several times a week. Meaning if you or a family member have an illness, you can take time off for them and will still insure you that you'll have a job when you come back. This guy I know only worked 2 days a week and the night he was suppose to pick up his check, he supposivlly 'called in.' But yet, he still came in the next morning to get his check. If you're thinking about employment at wal-mart, plan on it not being long term. Because you might as well bend over and take it now, because you're going to be f***ed either way.

I know somoe overnight stockers making well over $10 an hour. A lack of respect ro treatment is a direct result of a poor worker, if you give them an effort they will help you with anything. i have worked for walmart for eight years, and after reading some of your comments, i relized that just about every store has their problems. its bad when you have one excellent overnight manager that looked out for his workers, get fired cause he stood up to the store manager and told her that she was asking the impossible. with only five overnight workers and a 1800 piece truck, they wanted us to have it done in two hours. thats the whole store too. and two of those five were cashiers. if walmart can make things difficult, then thats the way they want it done. to hell with everyone who can think of a better way to do the job in half the time with less of a headache. i used to be proud to work for walmart but now i hang my head in shame and try to avoid mentioning that i even work for those whoremongers. i hope and pray that one day the prez of walmart would just read some of these message. maybe he would open his eyes and relize that things need to improve. i guess thats wishful think on my part.

I work 2nd shift instock at 4216. Everyday we unload at least a GM, food and another dairy truck. Unless it's the holiday's; then we get to do 2 GM trucks. After that we get to downstack the food and all of the return crap until our overly unnecessary hour long break (that no one else other than instock deserves). Only then after 9 can we hull all of those pallets onto the floor. Which takes at least an hour now since their is no real system to stock goods; as that would make someone's job other than mine harder to live with. Then we get to downstack everything that we ran and it better be done or else some under worked douche bag manager will rant at you on one of their hourly patrols. Most nights we even have to help other departments pull their weight!

$7.65 an hour and they won't put any of us on full time because then they would eventually have to give us benefits. Even though i work full time hours at the shit taint hours of the day. Now i need medical insurance that i don't have to fix my back that is stressed out from this crappy job. Fuck you walmart you fucking greedy fatass whore! (my manager's name is "walmart" coincidentally) Time to go to college and get a job elsewhere.

Anonymous theUnloader said...

Hi, Unloader from store 3221 here. I'm very curious as to the congruencies between different wal-mart superstores. See, I've been in this position for exactly 2 years now. When i started there was 3 of us, and 2, 2-11 ICS members who did our job as well. Since then, my team has dwindled down to 2, then increased to 7, switched team leads 3 times (we originally didnt have a team lead), and are now sitting at 5 including myself, not including the team-lead who handles task manager and other menial tasks, sometimes stopping to help stock paper goods/chemical, or push the line along when we have truck.

Roughly 5 times a week we have a GM truck, on avg 2000 pieces. On a average truck day, we have 3-4 unloaders (not including team lead). My team has recieved the award just recently, for backroom of the quarter for my region, we get our tasks done quickly, and we all know how to do our job efficiently.

Now, my store has been spewing up a lot of bullshit lately, mostly management pissing on us, holding "you-suck" meetings, and constantly assailing us with comments like "there's NO SENSE OF URGENGY IN THE BACKROOM".

Bullshit.

Just this week everyone on the unloader team got a written coaching, d-day, or worse (just one of us was fired). Why you may wonder? Well, its because our bitchy Ast Manager wanted, (let me establish on this particular night we had 2 GM trucks, one 1600, one 1800 roughly). Well she wanted both done by 8pm. We finished the first truck by 7pm (which honestly isnt our best) but it equates to 2:30 truck completion time. We were all repremanded for a 30 minute glitch? Especially that seriously... I've been livid since this travesty occured.

Well, what came about from this, is that a new rule was set forth. That ALL trucks 2000 pieces and less MUST be finished by 6pm. Which equates to about 1 hour 45 minutes actual work time (after stretching/warm-up, and popping the seal/initial avalanche of death from opening the truck. Which is then seen as (19p X 105m = 1995p) So 19 pieces of freight placed on the line, and sorted onto the departments pallet every minute. With multiple people working the line its easy to achieve, but when theres only 1-3 of us on the line, and 1 is pulling a pallet... idk. Is it too much?

I know we can handle it, but after losing 2 of our team members (see:friends), in the past 2 months, morale is very low and with managers condecending to you every goddamn day its hard to care.

We used to have a large chart by the GM bays, like times tables, a large excel-like chart of est. truck completion times, truck sizes, and unloader #. So you look on the chart and say "Ok we have 4 of us today, truck is 2300 pieces, so we have so-and-so amount of time to complete before we truely suck. And honestly, we usually beat those times by more than half unless the Distruibution Center really shat out a horribly put together truck that day.
I mean, seriously, who uses boxes of fucking lightbulbs as a foundation for motor oil and cat litter?

Eh, kinda long. Anyways, do any other unloaders have shitty managers wanting too much out of them? What sort of time frames are you expected to complete certain trucks with "x" amount of people?

I work overnight ICS and have been with the company a year and a half. Not only do I do everything in my job description, but I've also pushed carts (new nightly ritual - cart round-up)... alone, stocked almost every department (spent almost a month in electronics after Black Friday), made bales because no one else would and then took them out along with pallets, unloaded trucks, and whatever else they wanted. All of this and my raise was a whopping $.40 last time around. And get this, now I'm being coached for 18 minutes of overtime (roughly $2.50 I've "stolen" from the company) because I can't manage my time while doing the work of at least 3 people (we're also apparently overstaffed with 3 ICS members for an entire super-center, of which all 3 of us only work together one night a week... on a separate note, I also ran nights solo for a 4 month stretch last year and never got coached once.

Management isn't always horrible. Some of the managers understand whats going on, a lot more than others. I've been working there for like 8 months, and yeah I get tired, and sore, but I still like working there, especially overnight. Some nights are rougher than others sure, and believe me, were always getting tossed around to other departments when were done with ours. But its all about making your store number one. If you're actually dedicated to your job, then everything works out fine. You just have to bite a few bullets along the way. And if they're working you hard, then its probably because they think you have potential, and eventually; you will get recognized.

You guys have issues. I have worked for many retailers and walmart acts the same as them not better nor worse. Actually I am wrong, they are better. True that there are people I would like to leave, as well as one or two managers, but that also happened in other jobs to. Understaffed? It only seems that way when you have lazy people working with you. When you really work hard and understand the business, you get noticed and advanced. It depends whether you have ambition or not. For those who work in a crappy store, guess what like in all companies, it is the people not the company that make your job a living hell. I have good managers that understand and help those who work hard.

Wow. Seems to be some of the same problems at my store. I work at store 5360 in Titusville, Pennsylvania as an Overnight Instock associate (now known as Inventory Control). Soon I'll be switching over to part time O/N meat room associate so it shouldn't be too bad over there. I've been with the company almost 2 years now, and it's absolutely awful. I have had two opportunities at a Customer Service Supervisor due to my knowledge of the front end, and i was screwed both time. The first time, it was because they didn't know my step mom was a cashier. I understood and i took it. Second time, they told me they were going to get around it, gave me the job, then took it away a week later when they said the HR manager said no. I was also given a 90 day raise...and then had it take away 3 days later because a new policy was passed 2 days before i started taking that away. so like I said...ever since i started i have had nothing but disappointment. I work my ass off...expecting to be rewarded..and my former supervisor, a bitch css that i think resents me for not dating her daughter, gives me a .40 cent raise when i know, and others have told me, i deserved .60. I knew the register, the service desk, and the front end like the back of my hand (like i said...2 chances for a CSS position).

I watch people slack off every night as they ass kiss as much ass they can to the assisstants and guess what...they get the same raise as i do...if not more! So it's true what they say...it's what you do, it's who you know.

The entire thing is a bunch of shit. I got a job with walmart hoping to make a career out of it. I was in college, but sacrificed that in order to attempt a career. And i got nothing but disappointment. The woman that got the css positino instead of me...has been there 3 months less than me, and he acheived not only a css position, but full time sales coordinator in jewelry, and now a Merchandise Supervisor position. And me...well i've been on a pay grade 3 for almost 2 years...and now finally moved up to a 4...still part time mind you.

So I say...anyone that praises walmart...is a member of the ass kiss gang or their leader ass kiss magee. It's not just the stores and the managers, it's corporate making it hard to make a career there, trying to force people who are full time to quit, passing policies to take away raises, to cut down the health care, basically making walmart look good to only immigrants and crack heads that need their money for more crack. either that or you have so many kids or bills (bills being my reason for working there) that you have to take their shit.

and to those that say "no one is stopping you from getting another job". not a person...but perhaps it's the fact that there are no jobs. in the area i live in...it's either walmart, or burger king.

I understand what you are saying. I for one don't care if they found out I posted on here. It's freedom of speech and that job isn't that important to me.

As far as getting rid of older people, they already did that at our store. They got rid of a guy in his 70's because he went to florida for a week, and apparently his vacation wasn't approved. Even though he goes every year. He's a frickin door greeter. And they have like 5 of them.

So he tries to use his discout card...rejected. He calls the store to find out what happened...they tell him he's fired for having 7 no call no shows in a row because his vacation wasn't approved.

Then the guy has a heart attack. Bunch of bullshit. That should have been a coaching offense. I mean the guy is 70 something, and is a door greet. Show some compassion. There was no reason to fire him.

I have worked for 50 years at various jobs in my life, some up to 10 years and NEVER worked at a place like Wal-Mart. I have been there for 3 months and it only gets worse. When I started I had a schedule for the early morning. This was good, then it became work from 7am to 3 pm and then come back at 11 pm and work until 3 pm and then come back again 8 hours laters.... well you get the picture. It it driving me crazy, literally. I can't sleep. I am of course planning to leave. But why the post. Because I think I have figured Walmart out. I think walmart wants extremely low maintenace subseverient employees. It has its elite group, based solely on favoritism, but the the workers. Well some of them sleep in their cars and do not shower or change clothes. This is with the approval of Walmart and is rewared with big smiles. Despite my professionalism and in fact probably because of my professionalism, I have become a hated and harrassed employee at Walmart.

To answer the person who said what do we expect at Walmart, pixie dust. No I worked at mcdonalds and they were nice. There were steady reliable hours. You did your work and went home. You knew what you were up against. You WERE NOT CONSTANTLY HARRASSSED LIKE AT WALMART BY EXTREMELY ARBITRARY AND CRUEL UNPREDICTABLE MANAGERS FOR THE FUN OF IT. I had low paying jobs along the way and they were nice but low paying. Sometimes I hated to leave because the job was nice but paid too low. I am a hard worker. I don't know what walmart values. Walmart is a weird weird animal that dances to its own drummer.

The entire time that I worked at walmart, I was depressed, maybe the weird schedule, but I actually lost friends by going off on them. Finally somebody said to me, Mark, quit Walmart, you're getting out of control. It was truly hell-mart. This friend had heard about walmart but never worked there and said it's not you, it's them. QUIT!
Walmart does not make any effort to accomodate employees on any of their jobs. WORST PLACE TO WORK. KEEP LOOKING!

I have been reading the replies about Wal-Mart especially those who are trying to white wash Walmart by saying, "All companies are bad", Yes a lot of companies fall short of perfect, but nothing and I mean nothing comes even close to what Walmart is. I don't even want to imagine what Walmart is. I don't think there is a job where every minute is torment. You can't talk to your co-workers at Walmart. The work is extremely hard and sometime darn right unrealistic. Management is unpredictable and cruel. Favoritism is just a fact of life there. I wish I could take breaks every fifteen minutes and then walk around with a clip board. I worked at various other retail stores and the management worked right beside you. So they knew what you were up against.

I read about all these people with health problems that work at Wal-Mart and I think well if you can't do the job, apply for a job where you can sit down, but now I have health problems where before I didn't because the work is so so hard. The day starts off with work, of course, its a job, but the work just gets harder and harder. It reminds of the "I Love Lucy" episode with the conveyer belt. I honestly thought at first Walmart was kidding. Trust me, they are not! You can lift 50 pounds, well you can lift 60 pounds, you can lift 60 pounds will you can 70. Unrealistic expectation, No regard for age, disability or anything else. I hope when the economy turns around, they go bankrupt.

Well I've worked for two nights now and I have to say I love it. Pretty easy job, the managers are cool as hell, and everyone there is nice as can be.

My first night was crazy. There was a huge truck and the receivers didn't get everything down stacked (I think that's the right term they use), so we had about 10 pallets on the floor we had to break down and separate into aisles.

My second day was fairly easy. I was told that usually a new person has to work with a trainer for their first week, but me and the other new guy were put on paper and chemicals. It took us all night (with about 8-9 pallets), but we got it done.

I'm loving the job. Good work out, good schedule, and decent pay.

I'm not arguing with $14,000 a year.

to you new stockers that supposedly love what you are doing right now.do not be so quick to drink the koolaid.usually it has a bad aftertaste.it is called a hostile work environment blended together with harassment, sexual harassment, favoritism, bias and predjudice and sexism.all members of management that are perpetuating the status quo bullshit at your store are responsible for the poison that they are lacing in the koolaid.do not get caught up in it,you might not be coming back.

there was an overnight stocker that was not too sure what he/she should be doing as it relates to being an overnight stocker.so anonymous, here is what you do.clock in on time.go to the overnighters` meeting at site-to-store.go to your depatment.kill your new freight first.kill your critical picks second,do all of your features third.if there is time especially in a consumable department then address your overstock pallets.after that you are essentially finished.just get all of your overstock to the back room 5:30ammaintenace wil do your cardboard and trash.zone out your department by 6:30am then clock out.anything after that, fill out a time adjustment if asked to do something after you have clocked out.and oh!yes do not get fired!but chaces are that if they get tired of you,no matter how hard you work they might just be coming uo with a reason.FYI.

I believe everyones problem is they just don't like to work and will bitch about it whenever they get a chance.

To the anonymous above Jessica. I have worked as an overnight stocker now for 11 days and my advice to you is simply to get a good amount of sleep before you go in, and be attentive. Listen to what you are told and remember (as best you can) where everything is located that you have to stock. It makes it a lot easier.

I have been complemented by every manager there that works nights, and I have been complimented by my coworkers. Last night alone, my manager/sponsor told me I was a hard worker, 2 of my coworkers told me about a conversation they had about me being a hard worker, and a chick that goes through and scans items to be ordered or picked out of the back (I'm not too sure) told me I was a great stocker on my aisle (the baking aisle..flour, cooking oils, cake mix, etc), because when she goes through, she never has to bring anything out because the shelves are always fully stocked.

The past 2 weeks, I have recieved compliments at least once a night.

It is a great job. Just get to know your managers, talk to them, ask them for help with stuff, and get your work done within the time they give you. If you don't give anyone a problem to bitch at you about, then everything will be fine.

I am only working now because it gets me out of the house. I have zero bills to pay so it gives me something to do.

I'm an overnight stocker, can your asst manager request you to work as an ICS person or to bin the overstock freight even though it is a different pay rate and job title? they assign people to that positions some nights even though they are a stocker and don't get paid the extra pay rate.

nocturnaldreams@hotmail.com

Store from parts unknown in california. All three shifts are understaffed and you are asked to do more than your job title and job description. They will have you do certain task that are a different job code and an entirely different pay rate. The over night stockers usually have to help unload the GM or remix truck. The over night stockers are asked to bin their own freight in the back room which is a different pay rate and job title/code. It is a very small store with less shelf space but has the same amount of freight come in as other stores with more square footage and management expects the backroom to be pallet free. The assistant managers, and the store managers are always polite but they expect you to do everything under the sun for a starting wage of $9.20. One thing the managers do is suck the life out of the hard workers by putting too much of a workload on them and nothing on the slackers. The suprising thing is the hispanic workers are the laziest people I have ever seen. They only know one department and plugged the shit out of it and never suffer consequences. There is this one mexican who stocks the pet department and no other. Sometimes there can be five pallets of box freight, two pallets of can food and 12 pallets of bagged food. This lazy mexican, like all the other mexicans. If this lazy mexican talk offends anyone then you have to see the mexicans working here, they are all lazy and are basically stealing a paycheck off of your hard work. Ok so this lazy mexican usually will finish one pallet of canned food and one pallet of boxes per night. Mean while the other associate stocking that department has to run to finish everything else. They never say anything to him, or ask any more of him. Only does management request more out of the hard workers.

All you people who say working overnights is difficult? Bullcrap! I work days in the dairy/frozen dept. And almost everyday when I show up for work at 7am, me and my dept mngr always see freight that hasn't been touched or finish, and they leave their mess behind for us day time associates to pick up. It's a joke that over nighters get paid more, don't have to deal w/ customers, and do nothing but slack around. Plus us day time associates have to deal w/ the customers, and we have to deal w/ management who feel we're to blame for not having the product on the shelf. So any of you over nighters, you try working on days and see how we feel when shit doesn't get done on over nights.

I work at facility number 2822 in Walker, Louisiana. We have one of the highest ranking stores, yet we are pushed harder and harder every night. You would think they would give us over nighters more respect since we have to correct mistakes from the day and evening shifts. When I was hired on, the store manager, Mike, told me that if I couldn't cut it in three months, I would be fired and never work at any walmart again.

I have been an overnight stocker at store 2405 for a Year and a half now, and it doesn't get better. I've watched good workers get shoved out because of management's inability to communicate and follow policy. (If you can FIND a manager.)
We've had countless people quit or leave the shift. One worker was fired because of a disagreement he had with a fellow ICS employee. (We're just employees let's not try to make it sound better then it is, Walmart.) They had an argument where the OTHER ICS member had threatened HIM! Management did everything they could to get him out from there including Saying he stole from the store. He isn't the first one this has happened to.
We are shoved through four or five depts. a night. Well, those are good workers are. There are those who management favor who are the only ones to receive help and most only have a single dept. to do in a night!
We are denied water bottles on the floor and then are coached for going to the water fountain.
The overnight shift at Walmart suck!

PS To all you day Shifters:
WORK MY SHIFT AND THEN COMPLAIN THAT WE DO NOTHING!!!

I been with the company about a year, I haven't seen the garbage everyone else does but I have taken note that they underpay someone under hiring even if they have 10 years of experience starting at minimal wage... WTF? I would tell them to sit and rotate if it was me. Also I do agree with those that have managers disappear for hours of the night doing god knows what while everyone else busts thier butts to make thier goal times. LAso there are those that are like scavenger dogs looking to eat the scraps from the bone. On a separate note I have seen the fortunate few good managers that will bust thier ass to help the team get the job done, but i think that is because they want to go home early and not let us get so much overtime. I reccomend them only if you are young and want a start before you find something new.

There should be a quota for stockers. It's not rocket science. When I worked there, easily 60% of the night crew stood around and talked the majority of the night. Oddly enough, they talked about how crappy Walmart was to work for. Go figure.

You can't really believe that Walmart will pay more when their whole business is built on cutting prices. You really think Walmart's willing to take a hit in the revenue department? If you don't like the company (can't blame you) go elsewhere.

After reading most of the comments, I figured I would put my two sense in. I worked for Walmart in Carlsbad, NM., as a cashier. I was hired to be a part time employee (which is what I wanted. I was given the hours that I wanted, the time off, when I needed and breaks when I needed to go to the restroom. I dont necessarily its Walmart in general to blame, I believe that each store is to blame for their own problems. I was actually asked to stay on full time, when I left the company. The Carlsbad store and its management worked great with me and I never had any complaints with them.

Hey everyone, I saw this site and felt I had to throw in my two cents. Some people have said that Managers favor people and its absolutely right, they do, they are human and just as easy to manipulate as anyone else. I work my ass off in pets, every night(which coincidentally might be the reason the last two guys with the job croaked, one while at work )and have seen the dark side of around 14 pallets of freight on the absolute worst nights. Does this mean my managers are willing to joke with me and come shoot the shit. Absolutely, and you wouldn't believe the sins you can get away with if your friends with a manager.

To all the folks whining about favoritism I call bullshit. If you were a good worker then they wouldn't have to come bust your balls(and ovaries) about case counts cause you'd already be meeting the standard.

And to all the lazy ass day associates who are commenting about 3rd shift doing nothing, lol. I know about 6 people in our store who are willing to work up a sweat on days and everyone else is a lazy and useless douche. And as far as not dealing with customers is concerned, people we're a super center that is open 24/7 in the middle of a big city, we don't have the volume but we get the quality weirdos, drunks, trannys, hookers, full on hilarious pimps, pedophiles hanging by the hot wheels section, two trench coat flashers, as well as a crazy lady who tried to steal and once she was caught started to throw feces(shit). But yeah, a couple of boxes in dairy not getting done, there's the travesty, woe is you.

They would dodge me all night and I could see them trying to sneak pass so I wouldn't see them. I would ask for help all the time and they would send me any until twenty before my swift ended. I started to lose my sanity, because my body was in so much pain from the cold and so tire. I would sleep all day and still wasn't enough for the work I did. They gave me buddy talks because they said I worked slower when I had a partner and I was so good by myself. Not mentioning I had did it the whole week before they gave me help. I would never tell anyone to work for Walmart. I hate this business.

Wal-Mart is a terrible company to work. They treat their employees very mean. The expectations are beyond preposterous. They are unappreciative in all work one may do.

night stockers unite!!! I have worked for a "blue" home improvement monster
for years now and wow i wondered if ours was the only company abusing stockers, particularly since the economy bounced and the productivity standards have moving boundaries and we have no clue about what will be expected one night to the next, only that the expectation is too work ever harder with less wage, support, direction. Heh!!!, are there any lawyers out there reading any of this!!! There is, not just ample justification for legal intervention, but overwhelming need for it. I am not talking imagined abuse here, but real sincere abuse of so many. anonymous.

I just finished my application for 3rd shift stocking at walmart. I put 10.00 on hourly rate because I've worked at Food Lion for 4 years and haved stocked for 2. Reading all of these comments makes me question submiting the application.

To many people complaining, you put in your application didn't you? It is not Walmart fault that you didn't get educated or skilled in a profession. I don't understand why people blame others for there lack of accomplishment! Am I wrong?

A lot of people keep complaining about how hard it is working at walmart. Try working as 2nd shift ICS at the 7th busiest supercenter in the nation. I love my job and the people I work with. Maybe if you shut your mouth and actually worked, you wouldn't have issues with management

Wow you know everything there is to know about the running of Walmart after 2 years! Now that is impressive, forget getting your own store why don't they just make you the CEO. And even more impressive that you learned it while stocking in dry food and HBA. What is the answer to fixing everything that is wrong? Let me know so I can get a store as well I want to make $105,000 a year to?

I am an overnight support manager. And I think it is pretty funny when day time associates think we don't get trucks and that we goof off all the time. Even though, I do think a lot of my associates are extremely lazy. I only have about four I can count on, on a daily basis. However, day time needs to do their research before they start bashing overnight. Like..did you know that the whole store is suppose to be zoned and cleared of returns before 10:00am? I have never seen that happen. Although if we have a bad morning all the day time come in all pissed off like "what have you been doing all night?" We gets trucks, we down stack, we pick, we bin, and you need to do some overnight before you start talking trash. BTW, previous day time associate

I work dayshift at 5319. My job isn't too bad. It mostly consists of working register and zoning. My only problem with walmart is third shift. All you do is complain about how much your job sucks and how mngmnt is sooooo hard on you. Its because you all suck. Grnated there are some good ones. But the majority of third shift workers can't read a fuckin shelf label. My entire day I gotta work out freight midnights said wouldn't go and pull freight off the shelf they put in the wrong place. Or filled a four foot section with a product that only has one facing. Your job is easier than mine and not one of you can do it. All of midnight shift is on drugs and/or half retarded. Stop and do your job right and maybe mngmnt wouldn't be up ur ass. For the good workers don't show them you'll do everyone elses job and urs.

I work at #2891, this job is so damn stressful. I got yelled at for planning on taking a third day off, when it clearly says on the schedule on mywalmart.com that I have it off. I work in grocery, and I work my ass off(or I try to.) I get told to do GM's shit sometimes. I also get yelled at cuz I leave before most ppl, well it's not my fault they are kiss-asses. I leave when it tells me to leave(, if I'm done with my isle.) I get paid $10.70/hr and it's just not enough. We also bring in carts cuz day shift is to god damn fucking lazy to do anything but stick their thumbs up their asses.

I just started working at Walmart (i don't even know the damn store number) about a week ago. First off, human resource if f.cking rude. They never really told me if I got the job or not. I was just told to go to orientation the do a drug test. It was such a blur. I was lost. During orientation, they make Walmart seem like it's the place to be. It's so nice and yatta yatta yatta. The job description that was given to me during my interview was that I was going to be a grocery stocker for overnights. On my first night of work, I was placed with my "trainer". My trainer didn't even show up until an hour later. I was with some lady that didn't even speak English well. She didn't really talk to me. I was basically watching her stock HBA items... then I politely helped her... asked her where things went... It was so stupid! Such a blur! Management is stupid. They walk around asking the stockers how they're doing. Oh wtf. I had no idea wtf a freight was. I had no idea what a GM truck or whatever a PICK was. I had no idea what ZONING was. I politely asked but everyone gave me different definitions. Different ways of doing things!
On my second night, OMFG. The stupid manager gave me ONE WHOLE department for me to handle all by myself. This department consisted of 3-4 palettes. That's probably nothing to employees who have been there longer. But for ME?! I knew nothing! Aren't I suppose to have a trainer with me? I had no idea, no shit of a clue what to do. I opened boxes and looked all over the damn department area just to find the item. Fucking irritating! I couldn't finish. HOW THE HELL WAS I SUPPOSE TO FINISH 4 whole palettes when I don't even fucking know where everything is and sdkljojgfidovmewo. Still so mad just thinking about it. I just got back from my 3rd night. And boy, it was HELL. I'm thinking about quitting. Yep. I don't want to do harm to myself. These past two days, the stupid manager placed me in HOUSEWARE. Fucking vaccuums, stupid STERILITE buckets, tupperware, microwaves and all them heavy ass shit that don't even go out! Walmart, you're losing money. Shit.

I am a 3rd shift binner on Grocery and I cannot catch a break...I have had 5 grocery trucks in 3 days...I have every nook and cranny plugged with freight and still have about 10 pallets of back stock not in the system...and now am constantly getting hassled about it. they told me to make "temp bins" on pallets i argue that you waste the time and manpower trying to pick product out of temp bins. when they are no where to be found because the freight has been worked already and not removed from the system, or that the time taken to brake down each pallet looking for freight...thus affecting there ever loving scorecard...not helping the fact in my lack of space is that pepsi and coke have made my backroom there personal storage , i suggested leaving a trailer in the dock to possibly help the situation but was shot down...'do the best you can' then dont yell when you see the backroom like it is and you have the power and authority to make the changes but wont do nothing but cover your ears and eyes

I started working as an O/N stocking associate almost 3 years ago while attending pre-service firefighter education & training. It is the most unprofessional place I've ever worked. Recently, an assistant manager and co-manager were caught (more than once, at 2 different stores)barricaded in the managers office. I'm sure you can figure out what they were doing.

The punishment? The co-manager was promoted to a larger store and the assistant was sent to overnights where he spends his nights in the vision center with his feet on the desk playing games on his phone.

My normal nights generally consist of:

1. Working anywhere between 10-19 skids of pets.
2. Pulling the produce and frozen trucks.
3. Merchandising freezer end caps and bunkers
4. Recording temperatures every 2 hours for freezer, meats, produce, bakery and deli.
5. Collecting empty pallets on grocery side and doing skid returns.

We've had 14 people quit in the last 8 months, and only 3 have been replaced.

It's not uncommon to have to stock pets, chemicals, and paper while doing all my other nightly responsibilities. And the managers expect it done even if my total expected stock time exceeds my 8 hour shift, and the resources required is 2 associates per department. All While other associates get away with doing one grocery aisle and zoning.

Back to professionalism. When one of the assistants found out I compete as an amateur kick boxer, he made a point to taunt me and talk shit to me all night long. Even kicked freight off skids that I was working. I had to transfer to the other side of the store before I snapped.

Managers try and trick people into working statutory holidays, by telling them they don't qualify for holidays because they work over night.

I recently learned of something called "life-style changes" from another manager. Basically, managers will mess with work schedules to exhaust people or interrupt important events in an associates life in hopes they will get fed up and quit. There is talks right now of having O/N'ers work 7 nights straight and than taking 6 days off every other week.

Oh yeah, and our store just had $800,000 of inventory that just vanished. Store manager is dead set that it's O/N stealing. Can't be the fact they got rid of all security to save money and there are rarely any greeters at the doors.

Luckily, I work a full time day job as well for my in-laws so I'm just riding out wal mart til' they fire me for not meeting their ridiculous 24/7 productivity system.

I work at a neighborhood market in north texas as an overnight stocker. I won't say which in fear of retaliation, though if they thought about it, they could figure it out.

To the original questions...

Yes. We unload trucks. We don't have unloaders on staff, so when we get in at 10pm, we have to unload them by hand, and we only have 2 pallet jacks.

Yes. We pull freight every night all night. If it's not from the truck, it is from our overstuffed steel bins. Any spare moment we have is spent pulling backstock.

Yes. We undo everything done all day. Our daytime IMS and Stockers [mostly the day stockers] will Plug to the EXTREME! if the shelf cap is 24, and there are 12 on the shelf, and they come 24 to a case, they have no problem plugging the other 12 in something elses home and we are expected to fix that every night and zone 100% or suffer the consequences.

No, we are not locked in except for december 25/26.

In a manner of speaking, we are able to communicate our concerns to day management. However, since our day management staff arrives constantly late [or, in their cases since they make their own schedules... on time] at 8am or later, we have to either be super busy [and get out late] or stay [off the clock] untill we see a day manager.

Our store has 3 very good stockers who have been there for 6+ years. The rest are a smattering of people between 2-5 years. We have a good core team of people, and a whole lot of newbies who don't speak a lick of english. They are learning though, but it is very frustrating in the beginning. We are still understaffed. on all but 2 nights, we get 2 trucks. Usually, we have to gather carts from the lot 3 or 4 times. Once when we get there at 10 [because the cashiers are all far too lazy to get them before we get there and they wont hire a cart pusher that stays past 8pm] once at midnight [again, no cart pusher] once at 5 sometimes [as needed] and once before we leave [which we usually skip]

Overnight, we have to work the Entire store with a staff of no greater than 10 people. when I was hired back in 2005, we had one responsability. Depending on the night, we had to stock either dry Grocery or GM. [we had a dedicated frozen / dairy person and we did not mess with meat department] now, we still have the frozen dairy PEOPLE and as grocery stockers we have to not only work understaffed [2, maybe 3 aisles / night each] but we have to do what was traditionally the job of the Day Crew. Now, we have to work meat, now we have to do putbacks, now we all have to clean the floor [since they did not want to waste the money on an overnight 'master of the custodial arts' [i'm not a dick about it ^_^]]. When our inventory came around, we were told that we could not start prepping for it untill the weekend before [and it was on a monday] so we had a terrible inventory.

I'm not so much complaining as I am wishing that things would change for the better. things were so much more relaxed back in the days before kahki slacks and specifically colored shirts. Slacks don't stand the test of time when it comes to stocking!

Our management team is pretty hit and miss. they all have their favorites, but i think we all do, management or not. some are easy to talk to, others like to write you up because you like to ask questions.

all in all, walmart isn't a bad company to work for... but it amazes me that some of the decision makers in the company, including some managers, have the mental capacity to wipe themselves, much less make decisions with money and people.

for all those people who have bad experiences, or are in bad situations, keep your head up. Try not to let things like idiots [and there are a ton] get you down. try to do your best, and if you still get fired, just know that you gave it your all. and be happy you have stable work in this economy!

I worked at a local grocery store for 9 years it all the same.they don't care how hard you work they always want more. One day I said I've had enough and asked myself what I really like to do for a living? After a bit of thought I decided to go go to EMT school, it took around 7 months to finish only 2 days a week, 4 hours per day. Once I was finished I quit the store. I was hired as a EMT within a week of finishing my class, this is how my new job goes. I go to my base pick up my ambulance with my partner, we work 3am to 4 pm Mon., Weds.,Fri. off the rest of the week. Our dispatch will tell us to go park in a location for a patient going to a appointment at 515am so between 3 and 515 we can do what ever we want as long as we are at that address on time. Once we get our pt. where they need to go we have another hour or so to do what ever we feel like doing. On a average day we have about 5 to 8 pt. each trip last between 10 min to 30 min depending on how far they need to go. Out of a 13 hour shift we may be doing 2 hours of work altogether we get paid 12 dollars per hour to sit there, and 5 dollars for each pt we pick up. At the end of the day we drive our ambulance back to base ,fill it up, wash it and go home. Our managers never bother us, as we only see them about once every two weeks to pick up our checks. When we do see them, they greet us with open arms, ask us how things are going and thanks us for our hard work. In the 10 months i have worked here I have never been yeld at told I was replaceable or anything what so ever like I was at the grocery store. I love my new job and have no plans to return to retail ever again.

Let's talk about something else. Let's say you are there for awhile, and you really work yourself into a frenzy trying to make a reputation as a great worker who isn't afraid to get dirty, who has speed and does everything possible to make everyone happy. What a shame that you did that, because unless you also have a unique talent to suck on all the peckers of the dipshit assistant managers you are going to be used and abused night in and night out. If you show that you can work, you will be shortchanged for help and they will simply nitpick everything you do in order to squeeze a little more out of you. "You did 37 pallets in Pets? Two truck night by yourself, huh? And spent the first two and a half hours pulling freight and helping with break packs? Okay. But what happened with the zone? You need to do a much better job. It looked awful this morning, and they were not pleased when they made their walk of the store."

You'll get used to hearing crap like that. It doesn't matter what you do, when you work at Wal-Mart you have to keep in mind that not only are you being paid a small amount of money for an extraordinary amount of work (depending where you are, who you are, and how well you suck cock) but you are also being paid to be treated like shit and hear managers trashtalk your work at every opportunity. While they spend the majority of their time hiding and doing the daintiest of jobs, you will be exceeding expectations, doing amazing work, but only in the real world. In Wal-Mart, you are getting the forty cent raise. You are a solid performer, no more and no less. But that girl over there, who is friends with management? Sure, she doesn't really do much. Not even a quarter of what you do on your slowest night. But she'll get the bigger raise. Oh, and you know that position you put in for on the Wire? The one you already know how to do? Yeah, they're gonna give that to a new hire. Maybe that girl will get it, since she had to break a sweat once on the sales floor. No point making her work as a stocker. So you'll remain on the floor, toiling into eternity, watching everyone get promoted over you.

This is what I've seen in my time at Wal-Mart. Hard work is not rewarded. Politics . . . you really have to charm the pants off the managers to get anywhere. If you want to go far at Wal-Mart, you pretty much have to start off in the right area (somewhere that's not too difficult, with a lot of help like HBA) and say all the right things and sweet talk the stuffed shirts. Then you can rapidly rise to the top. But be like me, show up and do the work and quietly break your back for these people . . . and you are fucking doomed. I'm thinking about going to school or taking on another job (or jobs) so I don't have to feel like a piece of shit for these cocksuckers anymore.

I can't say Wal-Mart is the hardest place I've worked at, but it is tough. Sometimes it does compare to factory work. Know what you're getting into. And if you're one of the lucky ones, that comes into a cake position in the right area and has the social skills to work a pallet or two a night and never break a sweat, and still get the promotion and all the breaks in the world . . . then you've got it made at Wal-Mart. Otherwise, God help you. Go to school.

Wal-Mart is a fucking nightmare.

3:09 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I wrote the last post saying that "Wal-Mart is a fucking nightmare," and I'd like to answer the questions listed in this topic:

DO YOU...UNLOAD TRUCKS?

Occasionally. I used to help the unloaders a great deal when I was full-time GM for a few years, but nowadays I'm a floater (although mostly a Grocery stocker at this point) so I don't really unload trucks other than Frozen/Dairy, Meat/Produce and the remix trucks. The Frozen/Dairy truck is usually here before my shift begins, so that doesn't come up often, and the remix truck isn't something we often deal with either. I usually do end up helping with the Meat/Produce truck, which is saying something as most of the other stockers won't lift a finger to help.

DO YOU PULL FREIGHT MOST OF THE NIGHT?

When I was GM, I would pull freight on most nights, and on two truck nights I would pull pallets for probably better than two hours every time. Not counting the time I would take to pull the freight back. There were many times when I did spend the whole night pulling pallets. It doesn't happen as often on Grocery side, but it does happen sometimes.

DO YOU UNDO EVERYTHING DONE ALL DAY?

Not really. At this point, I don't care at all. I fix the very worst stuff, so I don't get blamed for it, but other than that I don't think it's worth the time. Management doesn't appreciate the effort anyway. I will say the very worst area to work in terms of undoing mistakes and making up for other associates is probably Frozen. The freezer is always a godforsaken mess. Pretty much hopeless working in there. Clean it up one night, come back the next, and it's all fucked up again. Worthless.

ARE YOU LOCKED IN?

I work in a twenty-four hour supercenter so this only comes up on certain holidays, mainly Christmas if I do recall. I don't think there are any others where we are locked in.

ARE YOU ABLE TO COMMUNICATE CONCERNS TO DAY MANAGEMENT?

I have no contact with day management whatsoever, so I would say no. You can talk to your own managers and pass the word along but it really doesn't help that much. It all depends what it is. In general, the management at Wal-Mart is useless. I can hardly recall a time when I actually needed a manager for anything anyway, so I'll stick with no. Even if I needed them, I would do everything in my power to avoid contacting them. Can't stand the bastards.

And that's my last contribution to this topic. Take care!
