WHAT IS SALARIED MANAGEMENT LIKE IN YOUR STORE?

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am a overnight cashier but my salaried management don’t seem to know my job title because I stock most of the time we are a new store and I understand that we are having problems keeping stockers but if I am going to do two jobs I should be getting two checks and the management is very pushy you try to work hard an still its not good enough or your not fast enough that make you feel not worthy I have had fellow stockers quit and there rumors going around saying they got fired but they didn’t they found another job. They lied about were a family the management teams a family but not the associates.

Sorry that you have to work to earn your pay check. If you want to be JUST a cashier then you should ask to work from 10am-6pm. But even then you may at the slow times help out in other areas. Check the Job Description that you signed when you agreed to work for the money being paid ... at the end is a little phrase that says you will comply with reasonable request.

how about having the store manager lie to your face?! it happens all the time in the store i work at. Mgmt does not care about the assoc at ALL. you can't do anything right. nobody works hard enough, bull crap. people are being written up for ridculus things, trying to get them to quit. one person was terminated because she raised her voice to the store mgr while talking in the office. mgmt in our store have been intimidating assoc district knows and nothing changes. people stay there because they have bills to pay and children to take care of. it's almost impossible to find another job now. everyone at my store is misserable.......and home officed has done NOTHING!!!

Jean...I hear you! At my store, "open door policy" means right to the person you are going to complain about. For example. You have a complaint about your manager...you tell the store manager, next thing you know your manager is giving you crap for not going right to them. Hello...what happened to open door policy??

I hear both sides of the story. Not all management is bad however unless you look at the home office executive team and theres the true culprits in this issue, the assistant managers and even some store managers are trying to make a living just like the rest of you. If a manager treats you unfairly look at the reasons why, too much expected, too many hours and not enough pay. When there is no management to check up front guess where we're at. I try to treat my associates fairly but the good management is phased out, fired out, or brainwashed. We're in the same boat as employees most times only you don't see what goes on behind closed doors, the intimidation, the lies, the verbal and even sometimes physical abuse. And if you think the open-door doesn't work for you try using it when your a manager. Finally I love how even salaried members of management jobs are being eliminated, if I'd wanted to be a evil Division 1 assistant I would have stayed in that division in the first place.
Good Luck to All and God Bless

I am a member of mgnt at my store and have been for 3yrs. I was an hourly associate for 13 yrs before. I worked very hard for Walmart and was rewarded accordingly. I was a dept mgr for nearly 12 yrs. I have a strong work ethic and was taught to work hard regardless of what I was earning. This has paid off for me and I have wittnessed this numerous times over the years. I have also seen associates who do not do their fair share, but certainly do their share of complaining. So many associates get what they give...which is very little. I'm not saying I've not had difficult times, but I stood up for what I thought was right. I still do and think I always remember the 1st belief that Sam Walton stood for and that was RESPECT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL. I have faith in the company although some things are much different. But I think, most all large companies have been doing the things we have just started with the NEW changes in the Company, for many years. I beleive Walmart is very competitive with all retailers. We employ many people that would otherwise not have a job...because of education, etc. We have a large family in my store...we take care of each other and I am proud to work for Walmart.

I HAVE BEEN AN ASSISTANT FOR 2YRS NOW AND I DONT AGREE WITH ALL THE CHANGES BUT, WE HAVE TO ROLL WITH THE TIMES. I HAVE A GREATLY STRONG WORK ETHIC AND WAS APPROACHED BY MY MM TO JOIN THE MANAGEMENT TEAM. I WORK WITH THE ASSOCIATES, AND TRY TO MAINTAIN A LEVEL OF RESPECT FOR ALL. I FEEL ALOT OF ASSOCIATES ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THEIR LIVES AND WANT TO BLAME WALMART. I THINK THE LACK OF RESPECT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL IS GONE BUT US AS MANAGEMENT CAN CHANGE THAT IF YOU TREAT YOUR ASSOCIATES FAIRLY AND WORK WITH THEM AND NOT LOSE SITE OF WHO YOU WERE BEFORE MANAGEMENT.... ITS UP TO THE ASSISTANTS AND THE COS TO SHOW THE ASSOCIATES WALMART STILL STANDS FOR WHAT SAM BELIEVES!!!!!!!!!!! I STILL UNLOAD TRUCKS AND CHECK AND WORK FREIGHT AND CARRY OUTS ETC.ETC. BUT IF I AM HELPING MY TEAM THEN MY JOB IS DONE. YOU CANT AND WONT CHANGE THE MINDS OF SOME ASSOCIATES BUT YOU CAN HELP THEM UNDERSTAND.

well here is my comment my son has worked for walmart for the past 10 years he,s worked long hours been shifted around to manny stores. Finally he gets prom otted as manager of a small walmart and works his butt off for three years. Now all of a sudden some clown in lake city, fl decides he doesn,t have leadership abilities of course the district manager has a buddy he wants to give the brand new supper center opening in jan. And the jerk even offers my son a store in alabama strange he doesn,t have leadership abiliries after being manager for 3 years but is offered a co- manager job in another state. Walmarts open door policy is a joke for all employees the powers to be in bentonville run it like a gestapo operation they don,t give a dam how long you have worked at walmart how manyy hours you,ve worked. Weel my son needs to operations that he put off for the past three years my advice is take medical leave get your physical health taken care of an screww walmart the district manager in lake city, fl lee scott and go to work for target or even publix hell you,d make as much as walmart pays be home at night with your family and it couldn,t be any worse thatn working for walmart. Hell i think if walmart could get away with it they,ve hire prison labor. Anybody who has ever worked at or for walmart knows that managers co,s and assistants work between 12 -16 hrs a week walmarts new motto should be family last walmart first and if you piss is off we,ll find a way to screww you and thats how they treat their loyal emplyees just think if they liked you how badly they,d screw you. I want my son to leave walmart never look back and i have told him that i hope the union gets in and then the gestapo in bentonville will be scratching their heads wondering what went wrong. Good pay good benefits treating employees with respect always equal loyal employees i think the days of walmart are numbered to those in bentonville i say the troops are coming to liberate the prisoners (employees) and hey if you had treated the employees right in the first place the union would never have been needed but it,s coming so get ready and Lee if you read this start following your own rules regulations and open door policy the buck stops with you bubba maybe you,ll be the next to get fired. god bless the employees managres co-managers and assistants because without them there is no frikin walmart.

What ever happened to just going in to work and working your hours which you are paid no matter what the job is and going home. I dont understand, just be at work when your suppose to, you work, you get paid and go home. Im an assistant manager and my job is not easy. I was part time cashier and a department manager and an unloader and a stocker and then promoted. I work and I go home. As you know being management my hours are numerous but I knew it when I accepted the job. The other day we had no maintenance and I cleaned restrooms all day. Im a team player, no matter what I do I get paid. Respect for the individual is something practiced individually, not just at Wal-Mart but everywhere. Be kind to one another, do your job and go home.

some people arent happy unless they are bitchin about walmart. maybe your son is in a small store and hometown stores as a store manager usually go to a super center as a co. thats the way it works let me ask the person have you ever worked in retail so if you havent maybe you should understand both sides instead of fighting the battles you dont understand.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys think it is easy working for Wal-mart even as management you are treated like crap. Store Manager works 5 days at 6 hr shifts ,please do you call this working hard??? Recently my store mgr got fired , just for being nothing less than a worthless worker. Been three days since he got fired, and boy does our store associates feel good. We as management where worked for the past 6 months long long hours. 6 days a week ,14 hour shifts. I was told by a Co mgr who was the buddy of the Store mgr , "the next couple of weeks forget about your family, its all about work" please he is now leaving to texas as a CO- mgr . last week here. Yet he works the samre schedule as the store mgr.Ass-h***

Assistant mgrs if you dont like your job leave , but dont make our last good mgrs look bad. I love managing but bad apples mess it up all the time.

In California we have it tough, but just as tough as OUR ASSOCIATES.

I'am a Wal-mart Co-Manager and have been with the company for 12 years. I love working here I have moved up fast in my job and I feel I can go as far as I want to go. I don't understand why you people just complain and complain about walmart, granted we have ran small stores out of town alot of you probably never shopped them anyway because you couldn't afford to walmart is the best thing that could happen to any town you people need to get a life and leave our company alone if you dont want to shop at walmart then go elsewhere and pay more i really dont care what you do and some of our former associates complaining you were probably let go for a reason walmart treats all associates with respect and we dont work people off the clock I love my job and I want to someday run my own store.

I have been with Wal Mart for over 15yrs. I have been both hourly and management and I feel home office is very much out of touch in what goes on in the stores. Their are still the good managers who try to make this company one people would be proud to work for it is just that those are usually the ones who have to pay for the fact that there are also those that once they reach the title that has management attached to it that think the word god goes with it. They are the ones that home office needs to take a second look at. This company has alot of people that otherwise would not be in mamagement had a high education been part of the requirement. These people are the ones who have worked very hard to become managers. They have a lot to gain by becoming managers and alot to lose also. The majority of the associates that work in these stores are single parents and some are already low income. Managers will use these facts to their advantage. It is sad to see some of these hourly as well as some managers work hard at their jobs and try to maintain the kindness that they know is needed sometimes only to be rebuted by other managers for this. I know that mangagers can not be friends with the associates, but a little human kindness is required. We wonder why this company is getting such a black eye. Look deeper. I feel home office needs to get out in to the stores more. Not just if there is a problem that comes to home office. Mr. Sam went to even the smallest of stores. He came unannounced. Now if some one higher than the Market Managers are coming to the stores, the store know days in advance. Does this really give you a clear picture of the way the store is run? Does it give you a clear picture of the way associates are treated? Most of the time they do not even talk to the hourly associates one on one. Some mamagers do not even do this. They are required to work at least one third shift a month. Some store managers do not even realize this much less work them. Get out in the stores see for your self how your stores are run and people are treated.

I am a cashier and I have been there for almost a yr. The front end manager can be a flat out rude to the female cashiers. Unless you catch him after his ciggs and his coffee, you dont dare talk to him.. He use to be in the marines and was an authority figure but what I say to him is "this is not the marines and treat us with respect." It took me almost 3 months to get the scheduling I need because of my son. Most of the managers are nice and will talk to you as if they were your friends. My husband worked there for 10 months and left because of a certain co-mgr decided that he couldn't move to overnights because they decided that he couldnt handle it when in fact he could. It really upsets me that for what walmart is now and what it used to be before Sam died. Sam wouldn't want it this way. I have to work, even though I dont want to. Where I live, no one will pay me what I need to make and that is the ONLY reason I am still there and as soon as I can, I am leaving Walmart for good.

I am a sporting goods assoc. ive been with the company for 2 years now and I HATE it. I work in one of the newer Pittsburgh pa stores and the first year we were open it was fun but now or store manager left and we got a new one.. no one likes her she is rude and unapproachable and their to make her huge bonus and leave us with nothing. OUR FIRST YEAR OUR BONUS WAS $1700 NOW THEY CUT THAT DOWN TO 4 TIMES A YEAR AND THE MOST WE SCENE WAS $60.that is a big jump ..... they also fired allot of full time assoc and only replace them with part timers and having their select favorites assoc who are the biggest brown nosier. im not the only one who feels this way about our store the newest thing they are doing to us is cutting our hours and not allowing overtime.. some full time assoc are receiving 34 hours and are getting screwed out of 6 hours and they have families to feed that’s not right.. Christmas is coming and they are going to loose allot of associates because we are understaffed and overworked and they just don’t care

I realy enjoy working at wal-mart. I am an assistant manager and from what I see we have very high positive associate morale. The people that are I on here complaining about working at Wal-Mart, Quit , get another job. Before you say there are no other jobs or I have kids I have to feed, You should have thought of that before you started procreating before you were finacially stable or you should move to a city with more jobs. Why do all you complainers have no sense of self responsibilty. Go to school and get a better job. I have three kids and I assure you if I hated the company I worked for as bad as you claim to I would quit on the spot. So do us and yourself a favor and go somewere else.

In my store we have great managers and poor ones, its that simple.

I've only worked for wal-mart for 1 1/2 years so i don't have as much experience as you guys.

But i do have my fair share of complains, sorry. 1st, why is it that if managers and CSMs are told to only call electronic associates to do some cashiering as a last resort (since we are a service area) they still call us first? Sometimes they leave only one associate from connections to run both departments. I'm not sure how busy your stores are but in my store you have people wanting to always buy games, cell phone contracts, buy tvs, ect. One person can't do this.

I feel like electronic associates are gofers. Don't get me wrong, I could care less where I work, my pay will be the same whether i'm in electronics or cashiering. It's just that when you get back to your area and you have 5 people complaining to you about the poor service it just gets tiresome to hear such things all the time.

2nd, this is for you assistant managers. A few are like this in my store, if you ask an associate to do something ALWAYS ASK "Are you with a customer?" i wont go into details, but we can all agree that the customers are always first.

I have worked for Wal-Mart for 7 years. I was hired as an Lawn and Garden Sales Floor Associate. In those 7 years I have been pulled up front to run register, pulled up front to help bag, pulled up front to cover people greeter, pulled to collect shopping carts, pulled to load customers, pulled to unload trucks, and also pulled to pull the back room. When I ask them why, I'm pulled all over the place. They tell me that we are short handed. Well we have been short handed since I was hired, so please fix it. Finally the part that really gets under my skin is the, NO OVERTIME ALLOWED. I mean for having your associates multitask all the time, the company could give us the O/T instead of us being run down at the end of the shift and work week.

what's up with the evaluations? i asked two AssMen how i can get exceeds twice and still have "Room For Improvement" filled in with total B.S. like 'not enough credit applications' I'm an overnite cashier and all the credit applications get deferred and never auto-approved as they should. The customer always ends up having to call a number anyways. This is just the one eval. example.

When i asked the AssMen about this connundrum, i was told that 'there's always room for improvement, we can't leave it blank' -- What am i striving for if perfection is unattainable? What do these AssMen want? BLOOD?!

I am a overnight stocker at the livonia walmart in michigan, and its complete bullshit! ive been there for 2 years and ive seen peole come and go for idiotic reasons. for example, we have alot of older people in apparel over 50 and this one lady in particular that is like 60 of 70, management is trying to fire her for performance. thay expect her to pull pallets?? come on now, she is doing good to be that old and still working. when i saw her pulling pallets, she was red in the face and looking like she was about to pass out, so i went and helped her. they gave her a d day for not doing her job in the time allotted. our store is so full of bull, and they are SO prejudice. im just there trying to pay my bills until i find something better.its funny because im reading the previous comments and every store is going thru the same thing. they tell us no overtime every freaking day, but will ask u to stay over to pull pallets or help clean, but then u have to cut it immediately. i just dont understand. our bonuses has never reached 400 dollars, and just recently, we were lied to and was told by store manager rita that we wasnt getting a bonus due to too many customer and assosiate accidents, but that was a lie, we ot a bonus. it was 334 and its funny how we were lied to like that. our store is full of good workers who they refuse to make full time associates, i just dont understand the walmart way of thinking..........

I don't know how managent is in all stores, but in 1962, it is horrendous. One of the things that i hate the most is when i have customers call in and have some sort of situation where after i've helped them, they tell me that i was the first person that they've dealt with that treated them nicely. This customer also told me that one of our managers was rude enough to hang up on her after getting into a heated argument with her!! My point is that when i'm dealing with a customer, i am always polite, no matter what i feel, but our management team kind of treats our customers like dirt sometimes... almost as if the customer is in their way instead of paying their bills and keeping their jobs!!!

I am torn I make a decent PT wage at my wal-mart which is not a metropolitan store I got hired in at 9.40 and now make 10.20. Of course since i was hired in 2007 I have seen many others get hired in at 7.40 for the same electronics associate job. The part that really will piss you off is that Wal-Mart pays the older associates the least. The 7.40 people were all 40-50 years old, one was a csm at another store for 5 years. Whilst in the same period they hired younger folks at 8 or 8.50. Why doesn't everyone receive the same pay for the same job? If I were running wal mart I would pay more to more qualified people that would in turn be more motivated then most of the lazy ass low wage low class trailer trash that they hire.

Those managers who posted the associates who are so unhappy should find another job. Well we should have your jobs and make the money you make. We have to help you all the time, especially, if you are a trainee, you hide in the offices, slam doors in our faces and try to ignore us. Most of you are trainees out of college and never worked retail in your life and no common sense. Why should we train you. If a manager is chosen they should be experienced in every area and not half assed. we have special walkies to contact management so that we don't page over the intercom and you still don't answer. We have to walkie 2 or more times. Some managers are really awesome and those are the ones who have a clue at their job because they have worked for walmart for years and then the other managers put a target on their back and then they are gone. Qualifications for management is if you are not a jerk you don't qualify, if you are lazy, and a severe brown noser.

A storemanager, in southeast Georgia, was not terminated after having an affair with a lady in backery(in the same store). She was instead transferred to another store. The storemanager of this store was asked to resign for the same reason, however his sexual orination was different. Employees at this store have discussed several times of how explicit she is of her sex life and parts of her girlfriends body while on the clock. After a few years, she was asked to move to another store. She told the district manager that she would not move without certain assistant managers. One particular assistant refused to move with her. The district manager then told him that he would make sure that he never moved up in the company, if he refused to go. He moved, got promoted. However, this same "GAY" lady is contiously "FLIRTING" with him. This destroyed his marriage. If you have an affair, you are suppose to be immediately terminated. Why is this not happening????!!!!!!! Someone needs to fire her. We need a new district manager to stand up to her.

All I am hearing for the most part here is a bunch of bitching from people that probably do not know what it is to really work. You don't like what your managers have to say because they expect you to work and earn your pacycheck just as they do. I have been a manager for 5 years. I have been in some good situations and some bad. The key is experience. I have been in retail for 12 years, have done it all. The managers that suck are the ones Walmart hires that have had no retail experience at all. If you have done the job you can empathise with the associate. My associates like and respect me because I have been where they are. I also still work. I do not sit in an office all day. If your managers do this, get with your market manager and get rid of them! Luckily I am in a good situation now. My store and associates are great. We have bonused now for 7 straight quarters. I know it is because of my associates and I treat them with respect because of it. They treat me likewise. I Would not trade it for anything. No where else in retail could I make the money I am making now. No one gives me a handout. I work for it and expect my associates to do the same. What is wrong with that?!

I have seen a lot of complaining on here and it is very shocking. I am at a great store, with a great management team, and with a wonderful team of associates. No one complains about doing extra work to help their neighbors they just do it! I get in and work right along with my associates and they appreciate it and I appreciate them and they know it. If you are having problems such as the ones you are posting on here then there are steps you can take to make them better. Bitching will not fix it. That is the problem that I have seen in many stores in the past 2 years. People bitching and griping. Most of the time it is those people who are bringing the store and the morale down! Grow up and do your best and others will notice and you will feel good about the work you do.

for a little background- i started as a full time temporary remodel associate. got hired on for full time unloader. did that for 3 months and got a department. did that for 6 months and now im a zone manager. doing this currently with job offers from 3 states for assistant manager with aspirations of running my own store within 5 years. My total service with the company to date- a year and a half.

Now then. For people that say that the workers should be getting the assistants money and blah blah blah. listen up. walmart is just like ANY OTHER JOB. it is what you make of it. I started at 8.50. now, a year and a half later im at 14.10. The money is there but you actually need to work for it. a lot of hourly associates, they just come in, do their time, and go home. no self worth whatsoever. but those few that do want to raise their self worth, the options are there. my biggest thing of bridgeing the gap from hourly to salary, is dealing with the unmotivated hourly worker. we pretty much get paid to babysit. cry about this, cry about that. just do your job or i will find somebody that will. i do not play because i expect the best and i will obtain the best. i want to be successful in my life. i dont want to be just another piece of the puzzle, i want to be the whole damn puzzle. and with this attitude and work ethic, you can rise from your entry level job and make some real cash just by being a good babysitter.

this is directed to anyone who thinks that wal marts mgts are something other than jokes, "respect for the indivisual" what are you all brainwashed and blind. i have worked my ass for this company for the last three years, and if at least one of the mgts showed me some respect i would die of shock! most of them are cruel and dont want you to progress. & whatever happend to promoting with in the store? they will bring in someone off the street put them in a higher position and then ask the associate if they can help train them. a fucking joke!!! So i dont care how long you've been there i know some woman that have been there for 25yrs nad better and get treated no different from. oh yeah and its kind of hard to work while your walking o egg shels and constantly wondering your going to get fired because you forgot to ask the customer about getting a walmart credit card.

You dont get fired because you didnt ask customer if they want a credit card. If that was the case half of my front end would be fired. You get fired because you decide to call out every other day. I am an assistant manager that has been in with the company for six years and I have worked with all kinds of associates. We are a team at our store becuase no matter how tough the times are we always manage to pull it together when it really matters. And I give kudos to my associates, department managers, sales associates, cashiers even cart pushers and maintanece people for it. The bottom line is that if you are not with the team then you are against the team. If you call out every other day because you think that you are the only one in the world who has a minor head ache. Or if you decide to come to work to wonder around then you are being unfair to my 200 hourly associates by putting more workload on their shoulders. I will be darned if I let you do that to my associates on my watch. If I give you a job, then you will either make life a little more easier for my 200 associates and take care of customers or you will be out looking for another job.

Worked in logistics for eight years now. Production standards are getting to in-humane levels. Our seasoned veterans are struggling with production. Everyone having to take short cuts, especially in regards to safety just to keep from getting written up. Morale within whole location has gone to pot. Wal-Mart is using a struggling job market to their benefit. You don't like it, leave. 500 people waiting for your job. It sucks, but it is reality.

Anyone heard of the word "Union?"

I am the customer! I have to go into Walmart and deal with the complainers and slackers that work there. Many should feel lucky to have a job as I don't know where else they could work. There are many good employee's also but I believe those who complain probably are the one's I am talking about. Be happy for the job you have in this economy and that you have a dependable and reliable company that won't go under. As they say, if you don't like it, go some where else. I would bet you would find something to complain about there also. I have terrible corporate politics where I am but I work hard, do what it takes and look to benefit from it. Don't make me deal with it when I have to go to the store for dog food. Union? My contacts in the unions over the years acknowledge that the unions do best protecting the "bad worker" and they don't like them any more than management does. They don't do their fare share of the work and others have to pick up the slack(er). Enjoy your opportunity to work and make the most of it.

This is inspiring! Most of you can't spell and have poor grammar. That means it should be easy to advance since there doesn't appear to be qualified employees on this blog that should advance into management.
Second comment: You don't get fired for having affairs with peers. It is frowned upon if you date someone below you. They will move one of you to another store. Generally, it is the hourly that gets moved. Managers are too expensive to move.(cost of training them) So, the person complaining about the manager having an affair with some co-worker - I say don't get your panties in a wad. Who cares? Just do your job and do it well.
Again, if you are not happy then quit. Life is too short to be bitter about a job. Most employers will hire Supervisors from Walmart. I am a Bank Manager. Walmart has a strong business reputation. Their good employees (apparently, not on this blog) are highly desirable in banks and other retail establishments.
I was offered a job at Walmart as an Asst. Manager. I declined it due to another offer. I think I am regretting it now. I may call them back and see if the offer still stands. I have tremendous respect for Walmart. They are the largest employer in the world. They didn't get that way by being dumb. Perhaps, that is the reason some of you aren't getting promoted....because your dumb. =)

Thank-ful I have a job! Yes it pays less than what I was making on unemployment and yes it could be so much better but we all make the bed in which we lay in. Enjoy life and try to have a good time working and always earn your keep!
