I have worked at Wal-mart in Oklahoma for only a few months now, and yes I too have been pulled to throw freight or unload the trucks, plus my dept. but I have a question for everyone who is fussing about Wal-mart. If it sucks that bad why do you still work there after so long? Some people work there 20 years, and there was a woman in shoes that had been there 30+ years last week. I dont understand. This is America, you choose where you want to work, yes Wal-mart is a hard job, but why work there if its so bad?

It's the other associates that I love to be around. The work isn't that bad because I have definitley had harder and dirtier jobs. At our store we have trouble with favortism. It is the heart of the store. We have all noticed the trend of lowering hours so people become desperate and leave to get better jobs so their families can survive. And the they hire just part timers and sometimes they get 35 or more hours while full timers get 29 or 31 hours. I'm under the impression that our store manager gets a good bonuse if we stay under budget. They are a lot of times we have no paper towels in restrooms or to clean with for a week or more at a time. We all complain but that is just a human thing. When we all act that is when we can maybe make a difference. Walmart is huge I really hate to see it crash.

I have been working at Walmart for over seven years and I have to say one thing that yes walmart has had so many changes some good and some bad but one thing that has not changed yet is I am still employed and been unloading trucks ever since I started. It is human nature for people to complain but just remember one thing are you the ones who stand around like walmart is some sort of social club are you the one who leaves the mess for other people to clean etc. look it dont matter what department they send you or what ever when you first started to work you were so happy to be employed. When you clock into walmart they have bought your time and what ever they want you to do in that time they have bought it is up to them. once you clock off it is your time just remember that. I am an unloader one of the most phyical job in the store. But when i get my pay check Walmart has Thanked me. So if we want to get ahead in no matter what we do we have to stop complaining and start working hard.

my problem is now they are talking about taking out the fabrics in our store that i have been in for five years! They have change my schule to mostly nite shifts cause the other person can't work nites even though I have been there 3 years longer. Length of time means nothing. I come up with bright ideas for things in our department and then my department takes the credit for it and never says thanks for it. Iam so tired of it.

The question about why you stay if it sucks. Because I stay because I need the insurance. My husband can't get insrance where he works and he likes his job. So as long as he likes his job I will stay where I am it utill something eles comes along. but I have seen alot of changes in my 7years. Wal Mart use to care about there assocates they don't that muce any more. Just wait the person that has only been there a couple of months you will get shafted too. You want to go some where's and you can't get off, just wait you will see too.

I was hired for lawn and garden, Christmas rolled around and I was of some use until after the holidays. They didn't ask me " Hey during the early part of the year Lawn and Garden makes very little money, so would you like to go to another department." NO they put me outside pushing those stupid carts in the freezing weather, I finally get so upset I start saying things to my department manager. She at least gets me back inside, to hardware none the less. They didn't train me, they just put me there. I didn't know how to mix paint, didn't know how to cut chain. I didn't know about glues and fastners, I knew nothing. The department manager over hardware walks up to me my first EVENING there and says " Now you make sure you have this place Zoned 150% tonight", like a idiot I asked why, her respone was " If you don't I will have to get you in trouble". Before I thought I said go ahead, if they fire me at least it they would make me happy. That night about the time I get back from my short lunch because THEY will not leave me alone, after I tell them I'm at lunch, I go back. THEY wanted me to push those stupid carts, I said and who is to watch the paint counter if a customer needs help? They look at me and said "don't worry hardware will take care of it's self" I said OK. I'm not dressed for the weather, I don't have a coat or anything to the nature to wear in the cold weather. THEY said "go out there and push for a few minutes and then come back in and warm up, and do it all over again. I looked at HIM and said "when I go to the doctor because I am sick is my absense going to be excused" and his answer was Wal-mart does not accepted doctors excuses and it will unexcused. I went out and pushed 2 carts up and came back inside and went and hid in Lawn and Garden. The next day when I showed up to the paint counter the department manager wanted to know why her department was not taken care of last night like she wanted. I said leave me alone I am sick and tired of YOU PEOPLE herassing me and the rest of the people that really work, about that time one of the asst. managers walks up and says " do we have a problem". BY this time about 4 other associates have walked up because of the loud SCREAMING the department manager and I have engaged into. I looked at him and said I don't know about you but I think this would be a great place for a K-mart and that he has no horse in this race and he is doing nothing but herassing me. He looked at me like he could have drove an ax into my forehead, and he walked off. From there I asked the department manager what her problem was with me and she stated that she didn't like the facted that I walked off and didn't do anything the previous night, I said go ask your little friend that was just here why he said not to worry about hardware and to go push buggies in the cold with out so much as a freezer jacket.

A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER:
The co manager and I sit and have good conversations about the store and productivity. I like him, I have nothing against the man. I told the co-manager that I was going to have to leave town for a couple of days for a family function he tells me no problem. I would just need to fix an ETA to do so. I did this as he instructed. It was rejected. I went to him and asked why was I rejected on my ETA he tells me to talk to my asst. manager over lawn and garden eventhough I was scheduled in hardware. I went and asked him, he pointed me back to the co manager or the asst. over hardware. I went to the asst. over hardware and he told me that he had nothing to do with my scheduling that I would need to talk to the person over the unloaders. This strikes me as being a little odd but I did it anyway just to try to get things worked out. I went and talked to her, see tells me that I didn't need those days off and she needs me here. I asked her when did you start making my schedules for hardware and lawn and garden. She tells me that it was none of my business, and not to worry about it. I said ok, and went on about my business. I waited a couple of days for everything to die down about the situation, and over a friendly game of chess with the co-manager I told him what I had be through with my schedule, he stands up and grabs his walkie-talkie and asks for all 3 asst. managers to come into the smokers break room. They get there and while the CO-manager is smoking his cigarette he asks them what is the deal with my schedule. They had the deer in the head lights look. None answers him, so he asks the one over lawn and garden what is going on and what was said. He says that I didn't even ask him about it. I poped up and said I did ask you about it and your a lier. The co-manager looks at the one over hardware and asks him the same question. He said that I did ask and that the one from L&G told me to come to him, he also added that he sent me to the woman over receiving. The co looks at her and asks her what she said, she tells him word for word what she said to me. The co-manager stands up looks at the ones from L&G and receiving and says come with me. They went into the managers office. The next day I found out that the one from L&G got fired, the one from receiving also got fired, and to my suprise the co-manager gives me my days off with out question. The way I found out all of this was from the asst. from hardware, he came up to me and thanked me for doing what I did, and the way I handled the situation. He also tells me that the one from L&G had been stealing through receiving and the one from receiving knew about it. He also told me that the one from receiving told everything she knew when the CO-manager asked her about it.

I've only worked one day. I've been put in infants, which I like. I have made it clear that I'm pregnant. I finished my CBL's, and am now on the floor. It seems like infants is a lot of busy work and checking on the customers? I'm sure I'll have harder days ahead, but it does'nt seem THAT bad so far. (Maybe they just don't want to scare me off??)

I've made it clear that I was pregnant when I went in for the intereview, and they still hired me. The managers have all been super friendly so far, even though I was kinda thrown into things a bit today. I think I might like it. Only time will tell.

I work for store #3293 in Chardon, OH. I recently noticed that I was the only on scheduled to close my department, 2 days in a row. I asked management about it they stated "there are two new guys scheduled to close with you on both days." This was a flat out lie. The first night I was scheduled to close by myself, they had to call in one of the new guys to help (might as well have closed by myself anyways)...Then yesterday (July 4th) I closed by myself...
Does WalMart not know it is against the law to have one person in a deli dept.? Do they not care that when they schedule one person the close the only way to get out at least close to your scheduled time is to shut the deli down early (2 hours early yesterday, turned away about a dozen customers). I am scheduled till 10 P.M. I expect to be able to leave at 10 P.M. Why? I work at walmart part time, for extra money. I have a full time job elsewhere. the last two nights I did not get out until almost 11 P.M. (July 3rd), and 10:30 P.M. (July 4th). The only reason I got out at 10:30 on the fourth: I told my manager I was done, going home, someone else would have to do floors...

I work in the dry grocery department of my store. There is only my department manager, me, and another part time associate that works just dry grocery(I am also only part time). They expect us to get it all zoned and looking good. We are also expected to fill the outs and everything else. I think that if we could just have one more associate to help us with this task we could accomplish it, or be closer to accomplish it. There are departments smaller then dry grocery that have more employees. Why is that? It really doesn't make any sense to me.

None of you understand. I work in WM 407, the REAL WM. It is busy every day, all day. I am a Grocery Associate. I work in the day time.

I have Social Anxiety. My managers know this but don't seem to care. What? No way. My Co-Mgr told me that she doesn't understand. How can you care when you don't understand?

We are constantly berated for not doing things like returns, then getting yelled at for not doing our jobs and finishing our bins, freight that the night shift simply did not finish. It is NOT the ICS team's job to clean up after the night shift. Yet, it happens. I hate WM, yes, but I like the people I work with.

It is hopeless. Greed infuses everything they do. People working 13 days straight when OT is dangled out like a piece of meat to a cat. of course people will take it. Our regular pay is sad. Not to mention the hard labor we do unloading trucks when our power jack is broken and the store won't fix it.

I stay because I have no other job prospects without driving for an hour to get there. Sad, isn't it?

Overnight stockers get alot of grief because people think of the lack of customer traffic at night but there are many other factors that are in effect that many do not take into consideration.. If we are short handed then we are to work together to at least get the NEW freight finished with the mindset that the two day shifts and the ICS team can get around to doing at least some of the backstock bins but no complaints.. The overnight cashiers are required to do most of the returns and even go to almost every aisle picking up the items that are not where they are supposed to be and put them where they belong, but still no complaints.. We, as overnight stockers are required to pull the two trucks that usually come in at night (meat/produce, dairy/frozen), do a buggy roundup, downstack, put up new freight, and still help the customers that do come in, we are doing the best we can and I do understand that there are some lazy people who do leave their cardboard, trash, and buggies in the back but they are even there on the day shifts as well, I do not understand why people refuse to make bales but I usually make one as soon as I get there while my co workers are downstacking just to get that out of the way..

Oh ho, get this. I'm now going to the Garden Center. Gets me out of the store, yes. But I am a pasty white guy. I burn after just ten minutes in the sun. I have sunscreen a plenty in anticipation of this.

Why was this expedited? It took like 2 hours and bam! I am going over there. Never mind that I have been in Grocery all my time there.

I agreed to leave because of that #$%$ manager, D. I am sick of being blamed for stuff that isn't my fault, like what happens on my days off.

Never mind that. I'm just a scrub. I do what I'm told. That is the job of every associate, while management pretty much does what it wants to, earning far more money than us minions.

The different shifts need to stop blaming each other for Wal-Mart's lack of organization. EVERY shift is outrageously under-staffed, yet all I ever hear is 3rd shift this, 1st shift that, 2nd shift does this...

I have worked ALL 3 shifts and pretty much everyone on 1sts and 2nds is automatically a cashier, and what time there is left is devoted to being personal shoppers for lazy customers and trying to cobble together a halfway-decent zone. I currently work 3rd shift dry grocery and seriously work my rear end off, yet I get to hear 1st shift dept. managers groan about how I couldn't get my 2 aisles zoned even though I leave at 5:30--1 1/2 hours before everyone else. I am assigned the most work and am expected to somehow pull from bins and zone all out. It's all this 5'10'' 110 lbs kid-sized body can do to just get the new freight done. I would LOVE to do bins--I jump at every chance to, but there just rarely is enough time. They know I run myself ragged, why else would I get the rare and coveted "exceeds" on my eval? Yet 1st shift seems to think we're all lazy. Everyone needs to stop and remember that it's not this shift or that--it's Wal-Mart and the scatter-brained way that business is run today. Too big to manage effectively.

I work at the Eaton ohio Walmart and its a joke .In the last 2 months I have worked other department more than my own because nobody is being schedueled in them .Then I get a crappy review because my department is not stocked or zoned during walk throughs .My supervisor was new and had to get info for my review from a fellow hourly associate who I do not get along with .Why? Because my former manager did not have time to do my review on time so she pawned it off on a new manager . My supervisor hates our department and spends as much time as possible working in the bakery and passing off her job duties on myself and others when ever she can . I do not have options so I have to do her job logged in under her name .One of the other 2 people in my department is always farmed out to other departments so when i follow his shift on the weekend , if I get to work my department ,I come in to empty shelves and angry customers .We do half our sales on sat. and sun. and yet we are being sabatoged by our own managers and supervisors because walmart is so scared about the possibility of the store going union they are doing everything wrong . Employee moral is to the point I am worried about a few of my fellow assiciates either killing themselves or going postal . Although I am anti- union at this point it may be better than whats going on now .Hours have been cut and many people are working 4 hour shifts to get 24 hours a week .You are lucky to get 24-27 hours a week . They are replacing any body who quits or gets fired . Our customer service sucks so bad now .

The work at the Wal-Mart that I do is pretty crazy, but I love my co-workers. They make it worth it. However, it's not worth the fact that I got drug into unloading a truck and ended up getting bleach all over my clothes.

I've worked at walmart for 4 months now and I'm a Sales Associate! And no we do a lot more than half way zone and talk talk talk... I work in the Electronics and we do everything from zone to lifting 55" TV's. My issue with walmart is the random hours and the fact you have to fish your hours off a giant paper filled with 500 other associates. The hours I've worked were 3-12pm and then be back up there at 7am! I'm very cranky when i dont get my sleep. and when i come home i want to spend time with my husband and dog. not eat and then hope to fall asleep! The managers are all most all pretty crapy! They have a million different rules that most seem to contridict with the other. like the cell phone issue. Allowed to have it on the floor or not? Have to have a watch or not? Another thing is seending us to zone toys or grocery. The toys department at my store is TRASHED! and the grocery is pointless cuz 5 mins later everything is gone! I love walmart, and i love the customers, i just dont like the managers sense!

I started at walmart a little over a month ago. I am assigned 3 departments every night. I'm not sure if this is standard in all stores, but apparently it is in my store. One day management is on my ass about zoning, so I make sure to zone really well, then the next day I hear about how the returns weren't up to par. So the next day I zoned fairly well and made sure to attend to the returns completely. Then I heard it about zoning again. I told two members of management that I cannot keep up, even when I work my butt off to keep up, and they just told me "as long as your trying" what bs.
