Hello, I'm Russ Fagaly from Wal-Mart Watch, an organization that aggressively tells a new, more truthful Wal-Mart story. We are a clearinghouse for activists, policymakers, and those who have an interest in challenging Wal-Mart and other big-box stores to be responsive to the needs of different communities.
Wal-Mart Watch recently produced a report on the lawsuit Dukes v. Wal-Mart. This ongoing case is the largest employment discrimination class-action suit in American history, including an estimated 1.6 million current and former female employees of the giant retailer.
The report outlines the structure and context of Dukes and its potential impact on the American workplace.
I agree with you completely. I am a former Walmart associate and was treated so unfairly that I was forced to quit about a month ago. I have dedicated a complete website to the terrible treatment that associates go through at Walmart Stores Inc. Please visit my website and send me your comments on my guestbook or blog. If you have a website link send me the link and I will link to yours if you link to mine. Please help me spread the word about what really goes on in the back room of the largest retailer in the world. I still have friends that work there and believe that people like us can make a difference for them if we speak up. You can't put a price tag on the decades of wisdom and knowledge that you will find in this book. You can purchase this book for less than the price of two bags of groceries or cable TV for one month. Think about all the benefits of a better life and" Start Living Your Dreams Today"
Experience Great fun and abundance. How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.
I started with Wal-Mart 5 months ago. I planned on staying with the company at least until I finished college. I am an older employee (and college student) with a strong work ethic and a strong desire to succeed. I started to think that there might be career possibilities with the company and began to gear myself towards those. However, I'm ready to quit Wal-Mart now. The superstore I work for is grossly understaffed. Employees who should be fired for conduct, frequent absences, tardies, or a miriade of other negative complaints are kept even though they are useless and not dependable on the job. Good employees who show up as scheduled and perform their jobs to the best of their abilities are often ignored or forced to complete the work of the bad employees. My department manager never says a good word about anything I do even though I've been told that my department is always in tip top shape after my shift is done. With this manager I am damned if I do and damned if I don't. No matter how good my work is, she still finds something to complain about whether I was responsible or not. As far as getting ahead in the company, I've no doubt that I can, but do I want to wait 10 years, work every job in the store only to end up putting in 60 hour shifts per week as I've seen many of the assistant managers do? In five months I have not heard one single employee say a positive thing about this company.... not one! What I hear most often is that all the things that employees are told is a pack of lies. I've already seen the staff promised bonuses and so on only to be told later that some ridiculous event prevented the store from recieving the promised bonus. Last week the bonus that was promised was replaced by pizza and chicken wings instead. Disgruntled, negative individuals work in this new store and, the store is so understaffed that one employee must do the work of three. I come home exhausted and out of sorts. No matter how many times I ask for more hours, my hours are kept down so low that I can't live on my income. Furthermore, my hourly wage is absolutely ridiculous for my age and my job qualifications. I can't get benefits or any job security as a part-time employee as the health care plan is also ridiculous and expensive for someone being paid almost minimum salary. So, I'm looking for another job now. And, I'm not alone... of 10 people who are hired to work, 9 are gone within the first or second month of employment. I've never seen so much employee turn over in any other place I have worked. There is almost no floor training for sales associates once they are put out into their new departments. Almost everything they learn is taught by another sales associate or by what they learn for themselves. The way this store is run is ridiculous and it is no big puzzle as to why they can't keep good people.
Hi, Added a new value add to my blog this weekend - a news widget from www.widgetmate.com. I always wanted to show latest news for my keywords in my sidebar. It was very easy with this widget. Just a small copy paste and it was done. Great indeed.
This is the reason they don't want employees to even mention the word UNION!!! Because then they couldn't say or do whatever to benefit them. Even though there are times in my life that I didn't care for a union, but the fact is that a union fights for it's employees union or not.
I know that a lot of WalMarts are guilty of this treatment, i've seen it definately, but not all walmarts are like that. The one i work for, wich i won't disclose at this time, treats its employees fairly. They do have some inane and stupid policies however, and i wish they would make more sence, but thats the biggest crime against me personally.
I work at Wal-Mart... and let me tell you it is a true blessing. The worst part of the job is customers complaining because you don't have Wiis, or that we're out of a certain tv. Aside from that the environment is very friendly. I worked there for 3 months, with guarantee of no less than 30 cent raise no more than 50 cent raise depending on how well I am evaluated. I received a 60 cent raise, and was also put in line to be moved from Electronics to Connection Center, Connection Center is higher pay grade, my manager said if I got it it would be between 50 cents to 1 dollar raise again. Not bad. I started at 7.85, 3 months later I'm making 8.45. I also love my 10% discount, I've probably saved 2,000 dollars for myself, friends, and family - always pay cash :) - the fact I can walk through the back room and find better deals than I would in the store makes it even better. I can get a 61 in Panasonic, with the original price tag in the $4,000 range, for 1249. Now its clearance so no discount. However, my manager wants these tvs out of the back because they take up twice as much space as the other ones, so I believe i may talk him down more.
They do cut back hours after Christmas, that is to be expected. Wal-mart is not bad. Maybe some people have bad experience, more than likely the trashy stores might, as I know in dirtier stores, the people act worse. Which after talking to my managers, is why they usually higher people from other stores into management at those stores, because the associates don't help out.
walmart in all has alot of problems and like the prevoius posting alot of bad things are trueand if you are a chrishtian we are to pray for thoose appointed over us i also belive we can change things if ask for Gods help and pray for our nation and where we work andif you must do something pray sgt robert e geiter.

I have worked for Wal-Mart for about 5 months. I work as a cashier part time at the end of high school. I do my job above expectation and I enjoyed it at first. I like to work for a company and I talk to a lot of customers and I always promote Wal-Mart. They do save you money so you can live better. The thing I have a problem with is some of my CSM also know as Customer Service Managers. They treat me like crap and I don't want to tell management about what they are doing. I know how that works it will come back and bite me. I mean the bigger manager seems to like me I don't know for sure. I just want to work somewhere where I am wanted. I also don't like how they won't approve some of my days off that I really needed off. I was forced to call in and I wouldn't call in sick because that to me is not right. I will not call in sick unless I'm really sick and I told them I was calling and they seemed fine with that but I'm not. I do not like to call in unless I am truly sick. I understand business and very well but that doesn't mean you have to treat your employees like crap. I don't actually need a job it’s just some extra money. Some Managers are nice and understanding. The think that is really bad is how I have to tell my Assistant Manager how to do there job. I had to teach them to use a register and how to override recalls. That doesn't bother me. I don't know everything and I don't expect them too. I do not like how they don't want to make decisions as a Manager that’s not my job. That's there job.
im an (I.C.S)but i do everyone els's job too, yea it sucks, im exausted and i make 7.90 an hour trying to raise a family, if somethings going to be done i hope very soon this economy is hard enough and i have to keep my job.
i work at walmart store 1686 in taylorsville utah. the general manager's name is kevin smith. i started here some time ago as a way to pay for living expenses while going to school full time. i thought it would be a good way to get some valuable work experience, as well as to put some extra cash in my pockets. within a month of being at this store i started to notice the very poor morale of the employees at the store. i heard a single mother talking aboout how she cant afford to buy diapers for her baby. soon i started noticing whats wrong with this company for my self. i brought up a broken peice of equipment that posed a safety hazard to employees and was told it was either fix this, or get a bonus. this left me dumbfounded. the common nickname for our store manager is lil' hitler. because of the tyranical way in which he treats the associates. the assistant managers are even worse, you get the distinct feeling when you are trying to talk to them that they dont feel you are worth them looking at you, and that they would just as soon see you walk off a cliff as actually listen to what your saying to them. walmart is by far the worst working environment i have ever seen. heres an example. everyone busts thier asses off during the holiday season, making the store millions of dollars, only to have our hours cut sometimes as low as 16!!! hours. thats a nice holiday bonus eh? go die for us then we will cut your hours right after you spent all your money on christmas. walmart truly doesnt care about its hourly employees. its a mcjob, plain and simple. they pay enough to keep you dependant on having the paycheck, but not enough to stay out of poverty.
the founder of ford motors, henry ford, had a revolutionary idea on how to keep his workers happy. he said "pay your workers enough that they can afford what they are producing" is walmart doing this? i think not. oh wait nevermind, im sure we can eek out the change to buy a candy bar by the self checkout lane.

Heard rumors that TLE is being shutdown!
Is this true? I'm a support manager for a TLE in North Texas. HELP??
WALMART treats employees unfairly in every way. They make you fight for your rights.

i work at walmart store 1686 in taylorsville utah. the general manager's name is kevin smith. i started here some time ago as a way to pay for living expenses while going to school full time. i thought it would be a good way to get some valuable work experience, as well as to put some extra cash in my pockets. within a month of being at this store i started to notice the very poor morale of the employees at the store. i heard a single mother talking aboout how she cant afford to buy diapers for her baby. soon i started noticing whats wrong with this company for my self. i brought up a broken peice of equipment that posed a safety hazard to employees and was told it was either fix this, or get a bonus. this left me dumbfounded. the common nickname for our store manager is lil' hitler. because of the tyranical way in which he treats the associates. the assistant managers are even worse, you get the distinct feeling when you are trying to talk to them that they dont feel you are worth them looking at you, and that they would just as soon see you walk off a cliff as actually listen to what your saying to them. walmart is by far the worst working environment i have ever seen. heres an example. everyone busts thier asses off during the holiday season, making the store millions of dollars, only to have our hours cut sometimes as low as 16!!! hours. thats a nice holiday bonus eh? go die for us then we will cut your hours right after you spent all your money on christmas. walmart truly doesnt care about its hourly employees. its a mcjob, plain and simple. they pay enough to keep you dependant on having the paycheck, but not enough to stay out of poverty.
the founder of ford motors, henry ford, had a revolutionary idea on how to keep his workers happy. he said "pay your workers enough that they can afford what they are producing" is walmart doing this? i think not. oh wait nevermind, im sure we can eek out the change to buy a candy bar by the self checkout lane.
The company is nothing like Sam would have wanted.
