Remember those old codgers George and Sam--that´s Bush and Walton-- Each patting of the other´s back as if there were no salt in The vasty earth except for those who both knew how to profit-- Yet what have they bequeathed us, please? That perch, you must come off it.
So both colluded in a way to take jobs that paid better And send abroad--to China--hands that knit and purl that sweater, Not that (you understand) I harbor feelings as begrudge My good Chinese friends--pungyomen--who mostly toil and trudge:
But I resent the profiteers that toy with persons´ lives, As make employees bondsmen that are trapped within the hives Of labor without any true compassion to console ´em, Fulfilling tasks tout de suite in modulated rank and column.
No, George and Sam in their flim-flam may slap each other´s backs, Despite which mien of friendliness we see between the cracks: It was all talk how all of it was good for all of us, But distribution´s mean unkindly treated many thus.
Again so tell me what has each of these men left behind? A fortune for their children to distribute to the wind; Disasters, turmoil, trouble as ensue, without some charm To compensate depletion having pilfered all the farm--
So the majority will starve for bread, save Ali Baba Come open up the store--Bush had Ambassador Al-Sabah Hands overhead clasped to congratulate his war Kuwaiti, While Walton saw communities reach poverty like Haiti.
Nor either George nor Sam nor neither Sam nor George (you notice?) More than hot air has left us having flapped his epiglottis, For plastic goods and oil muck as pollute land, sea and air, Are but the legacy with us these rich men had to share.
So should we then admire them having made their buck, held power? The vagrancies of profit do not last beyond an hour-- While it is only by the good a man has left behind Eternal valuation we esteem so as we find.
(Nor don´t supply me with a further cause for umbrage, unction-- The children left behind is but a biological function, So one may swagger snidely with a codpiece for compunction, The heavens do commend neither the juncture nor the junction.)
I love Wal~Mart! (Note the squiggly). Some of ya'll complaining should try working as an assistant manger in fast food; there is absolutely no appreciation. At my store (Wonderful #9 of Sikeston, Missouri) the managers are kind, caring, and extremely grateful to all their employees. Wal~Mart gives pretty good pay (I started off at Wal~Mart at a dollar less than at BK after working there as an assistant manager for a year, and I have already have a 50 cent raise after only three months at Wal~Mart. Not to mention my BK store manger gave me my 3 month evaluation about 6 months into employment.) I could go on and on about how great things are at my new job, but, hey, just 'cause it's my opinion doesn't mean it's yours. On a last note though, if you really think Wal~Mart is so bad find another job or, better yet, come to my store. Apparently we're a whole lot better than yours.
Eh... alot of people complain about it. I'm a night Stocker there and I personally think it's all right. I make enough money that my wife and I live comfortably, I have insurance that only costs $30 a month and allows me free doctors visits, I get 2 weeks paid vacation next month and every year you work they give you one more week, so next year I get 3 weeks paid vacation... I work at a very profitable store, so I get a bonus of $450 or more every 3 months, which is nice.
So what if I'm just another paycheck number to the men in the suits in Arkansas. Whatever... I don't care if they know who I am. I'm not offended. They take care of me and my family and I've yet to have any problems with the company itself (only fellow employees).
And, I might add... I'm a Liberal, intelligent (much more than most of my redneck compatriots) person. I have my Bachelors Degree, but found I'm making more money, and stand to make more money here than I would following my major.
I'm a cashier at store #2967. I love my job most days. Sure I've been there for four months and have yet to receive my 3 month evaluation yet, but it happens....right now our management is not so good due to the fact that they are always on register because they won't hire new cashiers...so i guess my job isn't always that lovely..but its still a good paying job. I just wish management would step it up a little bit and take care of the things that need to be done.
im an overnight at 5124, its not that bad over here either, im in the military so its great for me because I can leave for four years at a time (not that I have tried it yet) and they will hold my job for me, overnights is great too. I could be payed a little more, but its not horrible, more then I was making at my last job... been there about 6 months, and haven't gotten an evaluation yet, but no biggy, I leave again in September, the only reason I took the job was for the discount and to have something waiting for me when I get out of the military, so its working out pretty good...
I don't really have much to complain about either. I get along fairly well with the rest of the lawn and garden crew and the management is willing to work with me since I've had a family crisis. They are understanding. I am also a student and they let me take a leave of absence when I am away and I can work on breaks. I get to keep my discount while I'm on LOA which is nice, every little bit helps!
I have been in retail 12 years, almost 7 years have been at my Walmart store. The company is great, the store managers could be better. The open door policy seems to be a joke, as nothing seems to get better from it, only worse. But then again, it's probably just this store, and this round of management. In seven years we've had three store managers and six co-managers, and too many assistants to even count. My area, I've been in for five years, and I'm on assistant #18. I keep telling myself I'm just that good at my job that I can train assistants to do theirs. It's tiresome some days, but then again, where else can I go nowadays and get paid the same wage to do basically so little hard labor?
I use this call in sick number ALL the time, it works, and they rarely get pissed off at me for not showing up. Probably because I'm new and its Grocery department, and our supervisor is on vacation, but I've called in sick about 8 times in the month and no complaints from any management. Calling this very second for my 9th or 10th right now, I could care less about this job, nobody cares about you, the other employees don't, half of them just talk weird and stare at you.
Heh, most of you act like working at wal-mart is the best thing ever. Our store is constantly understaffed and the managers inept. Can't wait to be done with my degree and get outta there.
I agree with anonymous <.<... I work at a new wal-mart (opened march,2008) and the Managers are relatively incompetent, we're drastically understaffed and we're on a hire freeze for 6 months, I'm one of TWO cart pushers and they won't help when I'm there, I get paid 7.40 an hour to spend 8 hours every day but monday and wednesday (college) pushing carts bymyself for the most part (I'm morning shift, other cart pusher is evening) so lately I've decided to either be late by hours, or leave by hours in hopes they'll realise that nor do I need this job, but would gladly pay what I make to not be there. No motivation whatsoever.
Currently working in TLE at 1121 in Georgia. I hate this job. I love the people I work with and the work is good. Especially since it relates to my chosen career of auto mechanic (in tech school right now), but the managers are so nit picky it makes the job horrible. All they care about is little stuff like using anti-seize and doing figure eights, nothing that has any bearing on the actual work we do to a car. Plus you have people who know nothing about cars making the policies. We have inadequate tools and the shop is very unorganized. Not to mention that they constantly want us to do work that is not in our job description and that we weren't hired for. I'm hoping to transfer in to dairy on overnights since I know the managers there are decent people and hopefully will leave me alone and let me do my job. I can't wait to get though school and get out of here and into a real shop. Btw, I have a Bachelor's and I was a semester away from a Master's, but realized that I could make more money as a starting auto mechanic than I could as a family therapist. I also enjoy auto mechanics much more than therapy.
Please excuse my typing and grammar i'm not strong in this subject
i've been working for wal-mart for a year and a half and one thing i realized is at my store its not about customer satifaction it's about how much we can sale and how much the managersare making off the bonus's they can give a shit less about the employee's i'm discriminated upon everyday because i dont make my manager enough money as a service writer and she had told our ast. that i wouldnt make a good TLE tech. because i was slow and got in everyone's way yet now i'm one of the top three techs. in this shop and i've been nominated for a 5star tech. i see that being in wal-mart will get me no where so i've planned to return to college for my IT degree at least there i know i'll be wanted for my knowledge not how well i can lie to someone into buying a useless service like our fuel injection cleaner which does nothing i know first hand that it was the main reason my valves were burnt because of the chemical sticking to the valves and causing them to be tourched per say
I work at #1991 as a cashier, and I have to say, my store isn't that bad. We only have one bad assistant (Who was hired in with NO management exp, so she is really Green...) and one bad CSM.
I've made several friends within the store, I got my 3 month eval at the 2 month mark, and am considered one of the fastest cashiers in the store. (My average IPH is 700, this would be even higher if I just threw crap in the bag like the #1 person...)
Overall, It isn't a bad job, you just have to be in the right store.
I work at #0224 Walmart in Mount Vernon IL I have only been there for 2 months and I love it. I work the over night Grocery/GM stock, its late hours but im a night person. I was a swing manager at McDonalds making $8 an hour. in 2 years I recive 1 raise, that was my 30 day evaluation (4 months after i started) anyway at walmart I make a whole $1.95 more than I did as a manager at McD. Walmart has it flaws, but one thing i have found out, is that Wal-Mart does care about its associates, and its customers. Right now we have a co-worker who is in the hospital for a collapsed lung. We are having an auction & donations to raise money for him and his wife.
i work at store 2152 in the photo dept. This is a great job to have. Im a college student and they always accommodate for me when i need to have days off for school activities. Even though we have a ass hole of a assistant manager right now, its still fun to work there.......... wooo! 2152 biggest store in the country and the only one with two floors...
Chris from Michigan. I have worked 2 years as a member of management in the DC's and then stepped out for a little while to pursue some other opportunities. problem is in the economy we have i ended up getting laid off within 2 years. It was then and there i missed my Wal-mart career. I worked hard to get back in and had to start at the bottom again, im a grocery stocker at a michigan store. The thing i have come to realize is that Wal-Mart is a great company to work with and for and even though i'm at under $8.00/hr right now I know that i dont have to worry about being laid off or have to wonder where my next check is coming from. Wal-Mart is stable and will outlast all of the nasty comments and well the test of time. they are still growing not only in size but stock price, try saying that about just about anyone else while we sit in the middle of this recession. also here is the Key. Wal-mart is a great company to work for but in each of our store we have people running our stores, and people arent perfect. but we all try and work together to do the best we can. noone is going to pick up all of this is the first few days its a company thats bigger that some countries, so it takes time. but overall feel safe and secure with your wal-mart career and know if you do your job you'll keep your job. later days all Go Wal-Mart
I have been working at store #1319 for about 7 months now and i really do like it. My managers are so kind and caring. I love the people i work with (i'm a cashier) and i am pretty happy with my wages. My boyfriend hates walmart with a passion, but i don't really understand why. My check from walmart helps me pay my bills so i'm content. I really do like my job most of the time, but sometimes it can be kinda tiring.
I work at Walmart #2755. I am a cart pusher. I like working there, but I hate the fact that the people I work with outside are lazy. They try to put all the work on me. Be away of people like that.
Hey people get a grip Wal Mart sucks in general from the BS pay to the high priced insurance ,the policies they make up with out you knowing I cant think of one good thing about the company in my years of working there. They have you taking CBL s just to legally get over on you,got you clapping and doing squigglies calling you an assoiciate telling you its your walmart.Walmart netted over 300 billion last year.Did you get your myshare foreal.Hell they dont even give uniforms free. 10% discount cards and 20% on food now for one day for Christmas, you to be there 5yrs now for 25 dollar Christmas bonus. What a joke.
I think some of these comments were posted by the Walton's themselves.Wal-Mart sucks they care nothing about people only making money at every one's expense I hear alot about how they are creating all these so called jobs but what about all the companies they put out of business and all of those businesses employees who are jobless due to Walmart's greed.Yeah their prices are cheap but so is their products, and the pay they give their employees in Chinese sweat shops as well as the pay within their stores
Wal-mart is ok...I work at store #1852 in Virginia...Northern. They are cool besides the fact that they are always thinking someone is stealing, while that may be the case...GET OVER IT...IT'S WALMART...But neway I am about to call out and I am pretty scared, I am going into my second month of working there and I want to call out...hmmm lets see what I shall do...
I work at store #3214. I must admit sometimes it can be pretty rough....considering the cut hours and no real management to back you up. But I will give credit where it's due. James (Asst. Mgr.) from the GM side I applaud you. I see work in all you do and a likeness that no one else there have. Also, good job to all of you that come in and do your work and make a difference in our store!!! You rock!
hi, Soooo i work at WALMART, I can't say im perfectly content here. But it pays the bills, at 8.50 an hour wat are you going to do. The managers are decent accept this one, but i don't often have to deal with her. All the csms are supportive, they seem to generally care. The real problem lays with certain customers, they are rude and seem to think they can do better. But being the polite new yorker i am, i don't tell em to shove it. I let it go. But walmarts a decent place to work havent been yelled at for being late, haven't been yelled at for bot beign fast enough, or talking to my customers. They seem to think im doing a good job.
They are cutting alot of hours back so that stinks, but it's still a job, and i still have a decent paycheck.
I work at store 0061 and it's okay, I am betting paid quite a bit over minimum wage to be a cashier when alot of other cashiers in other jobs are not making as much I am guessing your wal-mart expierence is based on your managers, our store manager is great and we have alot of employee's who have been working for 10+ years but some of our managers and csm's are jerks I can see why people like it and why they don't but as far as companies go they don't have to give you a myshare and they don't have to give you benifits or anything like it so suck it up and work, alot of companies do much worse
I work at 2128 currently being remodeled so they got us jobs at the other wal-marts for now. I have to say I honestly enjoy working for wal-mart. I work in electronics been there for 5 years and make 11.77 an hour. Most retail jobs you don't get that. I meet someone a couple weeks ago that I used to work with and is still working for Toys R Us and he is still making under 10 dollars an hour, quiet surprised really. The job I do is easy, the tasks are simple and not demanding, sure we all have bad days, bad management, unruly customers, but you work in retail...as such it should be expected. I wouldn't blame Wal-mart for problems that a retail environment provides. I pay 30 dollars for full insurance which is now required in Massachusetts, including dental. I receive 3 weeks vacation a year, and I know my schedule 3 weeks in advanced. Yes its a big company and can feel cold some times, but don't all large companies feel that way? Anyways my couple cents your way.
Ah! I hate freakin' Wal-Mart! It's ran by bad managers that don't give a flying crap about you, they would rather all the floor associates work the registers before they would even maybe THINK about hiring new cashiers. They see that the Wal-Mart makes more profit, the bigger their bonuses are... Not, "OHHHH payroll is down, we can't hire new folks." We needed it though, we were losing alot of customers because of how greedy Wal-Mart is. I couldn't even get stuff done in my deptartment because I was working up front all the time. Then, the next day I got yelled at by my manager! Screw Wal-Mart, they say they're a big family... Nah, their slaves that only pay you gas money to get there and work.
I've only been w/the company for two months and as a military retiree supplementing my income have a few observations as a new hire.
a) it's a job. People get hired to do a job at a given rate. Those complaining apparently don't remember what they were thinking when they agreed to those terms.
b) ours is a brand new store and I believe that all of the management and long-term associates are rapidly working out the kinks associated with doubling the number of employees and initial turnover of new hires.
c) I enjoy the job. I work in the deli and we lost 3 people within the first month, but the remainder have begun to really work as a team and are building rapport and a nice customer base.
Bottom line, it's a job. If someone doesn't want to do the job at the agreed rate of pay, don't accept the terms and find work elsewhere...:)
I work at 269 as a over night, The managers are slave drivers, they what you to work faster,faster,faster,faster..they are running off all the older people so they do not have too for benefits. Plus they will lie on you, Management really sucks and fuckin retards, they can't even do the job them selves.
I work at store #475 in Round Rock, TX as Asset Protection. I love my store because all the managers (except one Assistant) are always trying to help in every department. If the lines are long, the managers have no problem jumping on the registers to help out. I'm lucky because I am the only person besides my immediate manager in my "department", i get to wear whatever i want and I walk around and catch shoplifters all day. And the pay is really good for the position. I'm sad I have to leave though, I am having a baby and I can't very well chase shoplifters around while waddling everywhere.
Ive worked at Walmart (#5203) for 2 years. It absolutely SUCKS! The only thing I like about my job is the customers. The management at my store is worthless. They dont know what they're doing and they certanily dont know how to treat their employees. Walmart is a "family" oriented store but when it comes to an employees family then they could care less. Walmart doesnt accept doctors notes and thats insane. My store is a joke.
I work at store #3469 which is in jersey i make a good hourly amount in the overnight crew but it gets rough at times and managers expect way too much out of us, especially in foods, at first i busted my ass, but now that i see its not aprechieated i work at my own pace. been there for 8 months working on some course to be an certified EMT so i dont see an 9th month here.
i agree walmart isnt a bad place to work, but it just depends on the people you work with, i've make the effort to make friends w/ people there, but alot of the store's associates talk soo much crap on each other, and complain on who does what on their job positions when everyone should help each other out, i break my back there all the time working overnight and i dont feel very appreciated at the same time, im having terrible back problems working and im only 19, i cant find any other job that suits me tho so im just takin it as it goes and trying to just get what i have to get done and move on and ignore others. overnighters work there ass off
Bunch of shmucks, its a horriable place to work. The pay sucks, the benifets suck, and the quality of the goods carried suck. If you were destine to be a gas station attendant well, then i guess its a step up, but get real, a career at walmart means you will most likley never own a house, and youll be paying for a car that the bank owns for the rest of your life. What corp. has the highest employee turnaround? Just because you sometimes get a profit sharing check doesnt make you an associate, your an employee!
i work at store 2045 and it sucks does any body els that works in receving not get a lunch or not go on lunch till realy late or bin told that a 4000 pc truck hast to be done in two hours or els ur not getting lunch and then when they tell u no lunch they trie to coach you for not taking it after they just told u u couldent
Walmart is a downright horrible place to work. Nobody gets payed enough to care about anybody else, and they most likely shouldn't. All the managers and supervisors are fake and "pretend" like they actually care and put a fake smile on. Walmart is to paranoid about lawsuits that it sacrifices thousands of dollars in merchandise to people who shoplift or return material that was obviously not purchased at the store, or not even purchased at all. Security is primitive. I do not know how Walmart makes a profit because of all the price changes cashiers have to do because the customer "says" something is another price, and at least 50% of the time the customer is wrong. Then comes theft, then comes chronic returners, who return stuff after they are done using it, and of course Walmart is going to be accepting it with open arms and a fake smile. I came to the store not believing how bad of a place it is to work, but after working here about 2 years now i can see what they are saying. The economy is too bad to get another job and I'm stuck in this hell hole.
I think what any intelligent person will see here is what the obvious case is. As an employee or customer your experience at Wal~mart varies greatly depending on where you work/shop. I work at store #560, its a great store, my co workers for the most part are friendly and supportive very much like family even though I've only barely known them for a bit over a year. The pay is lackluster of course, i started at 7.25, and thanks to recent policy changes, raises are yearly only, i got a bump to 7.65 after a year. With my hard work and motivation i made it into a supervisory position after a year and a half. Now I make 9.15 and hour and will get another bump when i hit my two year mark.
To cut it a bit shorter, hard work is rewarded in any field. With Wal~mart it depends a lot upon who your managers are, and what store you work at. However no matter where you work at, if you bullshit around, call in every time you feel like it, or are generally unmotivated you will be shunned by managers and co workers alike.
I just hit my one year mark working at store 0238 in Pulaski, TN. It has it's ups and downs, but all in all it's a decent job. I was made a full time employee within 4 months of being hired in so I can't complain there. The pay is great seein that I make almost make $10/hr. We do have alot incompetency in our management team, and they could really care less about the sheep ( fellow associates, greeters, cart pushers etc..) but all in all I've had mostly great experiences. I started out in the Deli making $8.90/hr and as for my treatment... my department manager, zone manager and store manager have showed nothing but appreciation which is something I've never had in any job.
gave my two weeks notice but got a bad cold shortly after and i have to call out i know it sounds bad but hey what you gonna do. my walmart treats all the younger ones (me being 20 as 1 of youngest cashiers) theyr all treated like crap
I have worked for wal-mart for 2 and a half years and I pretty much can't stand my job. the pay is halfway decent if you compare it to something like fast food, but other than that the job sucks. i transferred from one store to another back in May and got cut from full time to part time and got knocked down from customer service associate to cashier simply because I moved to a different state and had to change stores. That, to me, seems completely unfair. I'm looking for something better but in todays failing economy, it's difficult to find any kind of work.
I don't want to point out my store because I don't want to bring shame to those that ARE doing their best...but I thought I'd add my two cents:P
I've noticed while reading through these comments that those of you who have worked at Wal-Mart for only a matter of months LOVE your job. And you should! That first year at Wal-Mart is amazing. Most of the managers are always checking on you, making you feel as if they really care about you. It's as if you're really important to them. Who wouldn't like that? Plus, the work usually isn't TOO hard. It can be demanding, but unless you're working the deli all by yourself it's not all that bad. When you get your evaluations, so long as you've even remotely been doing your job they'll give you all kinds of compliments just to encourage you to work your butt off harder every day!
Here's the thing though...once you're there for a while, you no longer matter. Before I go on, let me say that some of the managers are terrific at my store. They truly are good people who WANT to do the right thing. The problem here is that those higher up are enforcing all kinds of new rules, etc that are complicating the way each store functions. This being so, even the managers who are good, caring people are forced to just push through like nothing matters so that they can meet their own quotas and whatnot. With the lack of associates needed in each department, managers are now being forced to take on more. Some manage to trug along, while others just end up running around like chickens with their head cut off demanding 10 different associates to do the same job while much more important tasks go unnoticed. And then, when those important unfinished tasks are discovered, whoever was PULLED from that department is the one getting in trouble. Now how can it be their fault when they were doing what management told them to do? Even when an associate tells them, 'Hey, if I go do that I won't be able to get my job done' management acts like it's no big deal...until the next day when they're yelling at them:P lol.
Moving on, what about those elderly associates who have been there so long? Have you noticed that they're being treated differently over the last year or 2? One by one they're being forced to quit, just so they won't have to recieve their benefits any longer. It's sickening.
They used to actually keep the floor fully staffed. Customer satisfaction WAS the goal at one point. Now it's only sales and saving money. How can a customer be helped when they walk through HALF the store before they ever even see an associate? Customers are getting more and more frustrated with this...especially when that ONE associate they've found has no experience cutting fabric, making keys, mixing paint, etc...
As for the benefits, look closely. They're cutting back on those more and more each year. Simplest of all, the discounts. Apparently now when you first start at Wal-Mart you have to wait a period of time before you ever even get access to your discount. When I started, it was automatic. Even if you didn't have your card yet a CSM could override it and give you your discount. This list goes on and on from things like Christmas bonuses, etc...but I don't want to write a book here:P
I really pity the cart pushers. They're truly BLESSED if they have even one other cart pusher there with them to help. And they're out there no matter how hot, how cold, or how busy it may be. They've got the crappy life!
As for deli workers...I remember when I used to work in the deli and they always strictly said, 'you never leave anyone alone in the deli' Say they chop of their thumb? Or they end up dropping something in the fryer and end up getting 3rd degree burns? Anything can happen back there. Now, they act like it's perfectly find to have ONE person back there all alone, slicing meat, cooking food, trying to keep up with the cleaning logs, etc. What a NIGHTMARE! It's an accident waiting to happen.
And what about the rule, 'NEVER plug'? Remember when they told you to always go by the mod? Who decided it would be a good idea to plug things anywhere you can find a place just to get stuff out of the back? This is causing SUCH confusion! There was a time when you could make your pick list, go find your stuff, and fill it. Now, you stand in front of the mod wondering, 'What is that doing there? Did we get a new mod? Where are the other 5 items that this on hand is showing?' and then when you go look in the back, your 5 items aren't there either! They're plugged somewhere out on the floor. Good luck finding it! haha.
Back to the understaffed issue...because this REALLY amazes me! I would like to know WHO made the decision to have, oh gosh...my mind just went blank! lol. Well, you know they supposedly have a required amount of people that are supposed to be scheduled in each department. BUT, they're now intentionally scheduling the amount of people on PAPER. But it's only for show. In reality, they're scheduled to help cashier, etc. What's goign on? It's a big mess and I don't understand why Wal-Mart is suddenly so inconsiderate of it's associates, customers, and a moral thing called honesty.
It's indeed more on how management works than anything else regarding a Wal-Mart store.
I work for a Wal-Mart in Georgia, not throwing out store number though for fear of retribution, just in case.
The store has had massive cutbacks, firing the temps, and now they're tightening the noose. Cashiers are short-staffed, so we're often pulled from doing our jobs to run registers. The problem is that we can be stuck up there for hours because they conveniently forget to send us back; yet when we are getting slammed and have only one person in the department, they can't spare us 1 cashier for an hour.
Our immediate manager over us has enacted very dumb rules, rules that have actually forced us to pay money out of our pockets, for no other reason but to look more "professional".
"Professional" is the new buzz-word around my store. Everything needs to be professional, we need to look professional, act professional, and yet, we're paid on an "associate" level. If I wanted professionalism, I would work in a profession! I'm not an IT administrator, I'm not a consultant, to put it rather bluntly, I sell people shit.
Our Store Manager understocks, and has had people fired for doing the same, my assistant manager is very temperamental, if you're not on his good side, you're on his bad side; being on his bad side makes you feel like he's going to fire you any day.
I'm here for the customer, and when I can I enjoy helping and educating people on our products and how they will solve the problems they have, don't get me wrong. But being understaffed, having hours cut, and pressure from managers to complete their numerous tasks with said staffing makes me not give two fucks about the customer. I'd rather do the basics of my job and go home.
And unlike some people who keep saying "If you don't like it, get another job", I have applications in; so suck it.
Left alone in the lot to push by myself, no assistance from supervisors, my previous manager was completely detached from what happened outside...
Yet oddly, I don't hate my job. At least I'm moving around and doing something rather than sitting inside and having to deal with the sheep. Though, I get the urge to not come alot. I just need to get my degree and get out.
well i am an employee at 5320 greensboro nc and i dislike working for walmart.... i saw higher morale in iraq than i have at my store.... i run two departments toys and sporting goods bust my ass for this place and they dont appreciate it.... there are alot of power hungry lazy managers at my store with the exception of the store manager and a few other others.... im tired of busting my ass and they take the credit for it..... i am seriously thinking about reenlisting to get out of this hell hold
I work at store #3748 in our softlines dept. I, as well as others, are always having to run around to do all other jobs we weren't even hired to do because they are always messing up with the schedule, always scheduling most of us at one time when it's not busy and when it is only having 1 or 2 people there. It's the same with the cashiers, too. There's even so many time no one is even scheduled for the operator phones so we all have to take turns doing that and jumping on a register because they don't schedule right, and then they wonder why nothing gets done. The women I work with are great and we do have a few managers that our good, but the rest suck. Most of the managers act like they're so much better then you just because they're managers and you're not. And there's so many times they'll just ignore you. It really pisses me off. I can't wait till I get my degree or find a better job to get out of here. It's fine for paying bills, but I don't want this to be my life.
I work at wal-mart and two restaurants. At the two restaurants; people like me and recognize that I am a hard worker and actually look at me when I pass them. At wal-mart; I feel alone, unwanted, unrecognized, and no one ever smiles despite how hard I work there. I don't think the manager has ever looked directly at me either. I feel as though I don't exist when I'm there. It's a job and it pays but no one is happy or fair at wal-mart.

I feel bad that your in a store that offers no help. In our store, we do things called 'cart-roundups'. When we get busy, we have the CSM's call for a cart-roundup, and 3-4 people(including myself. ZMS-Consumables), will go and help fill the cart corral. For breaks and lunches we often have Dept manager and zms's come up and cover.
Yah, it's not-my-job, but if everyone helps everyone else, it makes the store a much nicer place to work.
I work at #2208 as an unloader and we have 6 team members we would have 8 but they took 2 of them to day time ics they know that we are understaffed they are hiring for the cashiers but no other locations as of yet. another problem is that when they had the palate jacks fixed they put the wrong type of tire on its been several months and they just tell us that there on order. They don't care if there are only 2 crew members on at night help is all voluntary but they still push us to set up the back room, pull palates up the ramp with the "special" jacks, throw them down, set up the line oh and on the way remix and frozen usually arrive about that time all within 4 hours. tell me that we should get punished because days doesn't do there job we are not aloud to take lunch until the truck is done. and with that in mind dose anyone know what the program says about how many unloaders there are supposed to be everyday?
i work at #1709 and its the biggest shithole i've ever seen. The co manager is the biggest bitch i have ever met in my life and more than half of the staff they call "managers" does'nt even know what college is all in all stay out of this store unless you like walking around in the closest thing to hell you can get.
Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now. Keep it up! And according to this article, I totally agree with your opinion, but only this time! :)
I wish they treat people better,we appreciate been employeed by them. When I look at the way some of my elder co-workers that have been there for 10 or 20 years, and now they can't give the same quality of work they are not good anymore, when I look at my future at walmart i see it very dark,I give all to my job, Please appreciate what we do and don't treat as garbage that you throw out when you want.
#4258...feeling good looking great, haha. This is a new store of six months and I think things run well considering everyones new to the store. The store manager is awesome. She seems genuinely concerned for the employees and customers alike. I work nights and most the managers have been great. Just remember it IS their job to push people to be efficient and hit goals. Also realize that hitting goals is WHY any management position in any company gets a golden carrot of a bonus so you can't take it personally if they try to ask too much of you. I've worked for walmart in the 90's for a few months and now again in 2010 and the differences are staggering to me... but perhaps it's just as simple as the people that work there that make the difference, who knows.
I get treated like crap from my co-managers practically everyday. One of them has said that he "wanted to strangle me" for ONCE having two cases on a cart instead of a "full" cart. They have told me outright that I'm not good enough to get full time. They constantly stop me from doing my normal job, ask me what I'm doing, then tell (not ask) me to do something else, as if my normal job isn't what I'm supposed to be doing. They never check to see if my freezer has a bunch of pallets than need to get worked. I'm a frozen stocker, and half the time I'm alone in my department. So, what sense does it make to pull me to do other work that there are already people doing?
The company itself doesn't treat me like crap. However, the lack of communication in my store makes it unbearable. There are also a LOT of questionable policies. I have heard, but not fact-checked, a rumor that ANYONE getting a transfer to another store or even another department within the same store, has to revert to part time even if they had full time in their last position. Thus, they lose ALL benefits and my have to wait MONTHS or more than a year to get them again. Why punish people for moving around in the company if they stay WITH the company?! Again, I have not fact checked this, but I have heard it from multiple people at multiple stores.
Store #1549 is the worst store I have ever worked in. Sadly the management team like always sets the tone for the store, and so far they could care less. Sometimes it's a blessing other times a nightmare. The store is so old they should just shut it down or doing a major remodel. Doubtful they will anything about it. Needless to say I pretty much hate my job and the people I work with, all greedy bastards looking out only for themselves.
Wal-Mart is horrible... I have worked there for about 3 1/2 years in total now and since the time I have been there... I have been harassed and threatened by managers because I only would kill myself working overnights. I could do 20 skids in a night and still get told I had to do more because that wasn't enough. They also stole some money from me during evaluations because they promised me I would see my raise in my pay check but never did... and I have been fighting for the money for quite a while but if I haven't seen it after 3 years... I never will.
They made me record everything I would do in a night because they didn't believe I worked hard enough. That included me having to write down the times I went to the bathroom which I believe is sexual harassment. I would be told I was stupid though if I tried to tell anyone through open door about this or they would just tell me I was lying. When I went to the store manager about how I was being treated he just told me the managers were allowed to do anything they needed to that ensured all the work in the store being done. (Not to mention we were about 20 people understaffed for night shift, everyone had to do 2-3 departments a night. In total I believe we had 3 people on GM a lot of the time.)
The store manager at my store has told me really nasty things but he always makes sure no one is around to hear what he says to me. He has told me he knows I suck at my job and he would fire me if he could (oh by the way he has never seen me work since he doesn't ever show his face past 5pm in our store and I only work after that time). He has told me he knows I don't try, that I finish nothing I start, and that my department looks bad because of me. He has told me to do very dangerous things that have hurt other associates and has threatened me if I don't do them. He used to have me stack cat liter as high as I could on risers. Then the first shift lady pulled her shoulder while having to lift them down and the whole situation is ridiculous that they would even stack them up there. He has also yelled at me for not wanting to stack cans 2 or more high on the top shelves when I said it is a safety hazard. He just tells me that they can't sell in the backroom (I have never came in to a top shelf spot being empty because I haven't stacked it 2 high. He is just creating safety hazards and has no care to what I say or to peoples health concerns. A can could easily fall on someone's head if they weren't tall enough to see cans above another in the back.) So customer is #1? What a joke, profit is #1. That is the truth, stop lying Wal-Mart.
More unethical practices by the management team then one could fathom. Just to name a few.
- Hardlines manager having sexual relations with a Tire & Lube Express technician (whom she directly supervised, for months).
- A male assistant manager having a sexual relation ship with one of the Female Co-Managers, a direct conflict of interest, no disciplinary action taken against.
- Sexual harassment and misconduct being shrugged off by the management team.
- The "Open Door" is a joke, it's merely an avenue for the management team to find ways to fire you before you can create any kind of controversy, to expose their unethical behaviors. The "Open Door" is not FOR you, it's AGAINST you, treat it as such...A word to the wise, if you have an issue with the Wal-Mart management team, or another associate, if it's a legal issue, contact the authorities, if it's an ethical issue, contact corporate (home office) and your regional HR head, these people actually DO CARE about you, and your situation...and are very interested to hear about what your manager(s) have been up to.
- Employees working off the clock, and being forced to take their lunches late, and then being disciplined for having "meal exceptions."
- Unloading Team & ICS understaffed, overworked and generally mistreated, truck unloads that would normally take six people are being expected to be completed by 2-3, and when the work is obviously not finished in the allotted time, they are threatened with repercussion.
- Rampant favoritism, if you are in "good" with the management team, you can do nothing all day, chill, talk on your cellphone etc.
- Overworked & Underpaid, Blatant Racism/Discrimination... Minorities & the Elderly are all staffed into the lowest paying positions in the store, it's really sad, they work the hardest and are paid the lowest (Janitors, Cart Pushers, Door Greeters, Cashiers) while the majority of the management team is caucasian (token African American & Latino, for good measure, however).
& lastly..
- One manager, in specific...is one of the most unpleasant, unfriendly and unprofessional persons I have ever met. She treats people as if they are garbage, and her arrogant attitude is atrocious, it makes me sick. Really shows a lot about their character & how badly their life must suck.
hahaha! Yeah, I saw some of you wrote about management not really being on the ball at your store. Your not alone. I work in toys doing sales end of it, but, they've been having me and two other employees running not only toys, but also about 4 other departments with the occasional 3-4 others tacked at times cause they didnt want to hire anyone one. Technically, we've had two cashiers assigned to our side of the store to help us out, but, I usually dont see them with us to help us out. Finally, recently, they hired on about 3 new people for our side of the store. Their doing pretty good and helping me and my 2 coworkers out a buch.
for all of you who are trying to make it ssem that walmart is the perfect place to work, let me just start out by saying: YOU ARE FULL OF IT! I will admit that it may not be as bad as the food industry but its bad. Most of you are probably the managers that sit on your ass in the back laugh and talk about other people while you falsify paper work take the associates hours away just to make your bonuses bigger and hire all your buddies in the department manager positions and keep the hard working people who make the stores successful play clean up. Sam Walton is rolling over in his grave because this is not what he intended but you bastards dont care! You took his dream and turned it into a nightmare for others.
They are now trying to make all the full time people part time and take away all the department manager positions, why do you think they created zone managers. Walmart is Egypt all over again and once again the children of Israel are in bondage, but one day God shall deliver his people from wal-mart and wal-mart shall fall! But we will not fall in unemployment and suffer, NO! There are thousands of companies that would love to hire former walmart employees, trust me people. They know we have the knowledge and the skill to make their stores and businesses successful.
to walmart managers: beat me hate me but you can never break me, cut my hours but its not you who feeds me. union!! union!! all associates form a union!! All I wanna say is that walmart dont care about us! Tell me what has become of walmart, they use to care and show love for the people, now its all about their filthy money. When my grandmother passed away they said why you taking off there's nothing you can do. They wanted to fire me when I broke my leg. Im not afraid to say it, but walmart is evil as hell but if sam walton was living he wouldnt let this be OH NO!!
All I wanna say is that walmart dont care about us.
open your eyes and what do you see, made in china on damn near everything whatever happened to made in the USA!!! Poision in the toys and cheap ass shoes, B.B King sing the blues for all the associates that work for walmart.
Im not afraid to say it but walmart is evil as hell but if John Walton was living he wouldnt let this be oh no!!!
WalMart treats the college student employees very badly. They purposely schedule students to work on the days they purposely requested (approved by management) off. The managers at my store, believe and expect others that WalMart comes first before family, college, or anything else. If not everyone is replacable, even educated, loyal, productive workers. I have personally witness other college students it happen to, besides myself.
It seems from most of these comments the people are either under educated (stupid), or lazy. The only way WalMart is a career is if you have the drive to change how things run, and go in to the management program. The hourly cashier is never going to make even the $50,000 hourly figures half of you folks are dreaming of. If you have a college degree and are screwing around working hourly @ WalMart, you didn't plan ahead and get a degree in something someone actually cares about. Not to mention, if you actually have the degree you claim you have, and have shown it to management, you would most likely be able to start working up the ladder pretty quickly, at least at any average store. I worked at my store 6 months in TLE, starting at almost $10 an hour because I'm not a lazy ass, have previous work experience, and know how to take care of people. Your wage is based off of your answers to the interview questions. You get a better wage for not being an anti-social redneck stupid ass. If you have a poor attitude, your not going to do well. If you were one of my cart pushers who kept calling in, I'd already be coaching you and putting you through the system. After only 6 months they made me a CSM, and I went to overnights, that is almost $13 an hour. You can't make that starting out in fast food. Hell, you can hardly make that starting out anywhere. Unfortunately, we're comparing apples to oranges. I have a great attitude, don't piss and moan, work hard, like working hard, and am successful. I don't think I can say the same for many of you. As a college student entering his third year, I have never had a problem. They work around my schedule and schedule me accordingly. I am switching to part time 2nd shift CSM in a couple weeks, and I asked them and they said certainly. They will work around my school schedule. Most likely your a bunch of lazy, partying frat boys with your hats sideways who don't know the value of an honest days work. If you did, they'd be pushing you to get a degree and become a Store Manager. I'm not saying all the management at this store's are perfect, I'm just saying before you bitch and moan and blame, take a look at yourself.
(This is guaranteed laughs in the Chinese classroom. It was at first a equity in a Pink Panther flick picture show).
A servant walks into a department store and sees a cute only slightly dog. He asks the shopkeeper, "Does your dog bite?" The shopkeeper says, "No, my dog does not bite." The hamper tries to favourite the dog and the dog bites him. "Ouch!" He says, "I expectation you said your dog does not bite!" The shopkeeper replies, "That is not my dog!" Submitted aside Rick Bell

Sorry for my bad english. Thank you so much for your good post. Your post helped me in my college assignment, If you can provide me more details please email me.
Thanks so much for providing the number! I'm a brand new associate at my Walmart store and they did not provide me with the number at all, which should say a lot about my experience with the company as of right now.
I can honestly say that the customers are the best part of the cashier position. The employees left to train me were horrible at training; the management team rarely showed their faces. I basically have to make every decision on my own and I certainly don't get paid enough for it~

Thanks for the blog, which isn't on Wal-Mart's associate site (Hint, Hint to any Wal-Mart site developers). Just wanted to say to all of you that no job is perfect, and management has a great deal to do with employee satisfaction. But most Wal-Mart management that I have met just want to have reliable employees that do their job. In this day and age, it is hard to find descent paying jobs and after only four years with Wal-Mart, I have a descent job.
Ok so i work at a store in Florida, and next week marks the end of my first month. I have to say that this is easily the worst job i've ever had. Every manager in my store is completely useless, i'm quickly discovering that they do not give a crap about anything. When i was hired like everyone else i filled out an avalibility sheet. The person who makes my schedule clearly does not care about the fact that i need these days off for college because every week at least one of my necessary days off is filled with a 9 hour shift. I have gone to them, and their boss time and time again, and asked for them to quit over ridding this, but they seem to not care at all. I've had some crappy jobs in my life, but I really do think i'd rather shoot myself in the foot than stay there any longer.
If y'all wanted a better job you should have went to college and if you are in college then shut up, you are working thru your education, be proud you have a job. Many people out there would kill to work any where, let alone WalMart. There is never a day, when I wake up and say, you know what, I think I want to spend my entire day at WalMart, but I got layed off at my other job and when WalMart hired me I almost cried from joy....Glad to have a job so I can feed, clothe and house my daughter. Wish Sam was still here though.
I work at store #4456, I've been there for almost two months, and i must say, there's nights when it gets hectic, as in, working 3-4 departments, as we are usually understaffed due to niggers calling out every night, but that's fine, it's worth the 11.30$ an hour I get paid, seeing 800-900$ checks is just dandy with me for a 40 hour work week, don't get me wrong I hate walmart but I love my job...
I dare any one to come work at the store I work at! I believe that this is one of the most corrupt companies to ever work for. They make billions! I said BILLIONS every year and yet our store is supposedly losing money. Now you tell me how we are all going to part time at our store will fix anything. If you are not retarted then you might think that shelves don't stock themselves. I would mention some of the things that happen at our store, but I am keeping my personal integrity. Managers are all complete losers and have no respect for anything except for how big there billfold is. I swear to god I was asked to perform sexual favors from managers and also was told several times to drop out of school to work 7 days a week. NOW, with that being said I LOVE MY JOB
I'm at 2934 Paris, IL. GO Tigers. been there six months. noticed some associates complain, i just listen. bottom line is that times are hard. i took this job bc when im approached and someone says "You did that?" i wont reply "I was young, I needed the money." its respectable if your a person who EARNS respect and GIVES respect while DEMANDING none.
Hmm... It seems a lot of these comments are from people who have been here for a while. Not sure if they notice how much it sucks for people who have worked there less than 2 years. Pay is horrible(I made as much working at Subway as I do as a Customer Service Manager at Walmart) The hours suck because they refuse to give full time and you aren't allowed to ask for Sundays off or even a steady schedule. And on top of it all our store manager doesn't care a bit for his employees. The job itself is great but Walmart is as greedy a company as everyone says. I just want full-time so my wife and I can have a kid but they won't give it to me or anyone else for that matter
All of you who have only been at your respective Walmarts for a few months are still under the nice little illusion the World's Biggest Hellhole casts over their new people. Store 3273 here. It's a joke. I can think of three or four assistant managers who do nothing but sit around or come up with laundry lists of work. They never coordinate, they pull associates up front to cashier all the time, and they pull 80% of the store to grocery for an hour during the day to clean up their mess. More often than not, it's common for two or three managers to come by and give the same associate two or three major projects with complete disregard to what they were already working on.
On top of that, our theft levels are insanely high. Our management also bends over for customers--if you complain enough, you will get your way. It doesn't matter what you're asking for.
I SEE ALL OF YOU COMPLAIN AND SOME GOOD BUT WAL MART IS NOT THAT BAD OF A PLACE TO WORKFOR BUT THERE ARE UPS AND DOWNS AND MOST JOBS DO I KNOW IN MY STORE ITS UP AND DOWN ALL THE TIME AND THE CSM ON OVERNIGHT HAS A BAD ATTITUDE BUT HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE COMPANY ITSELF BE GLAD JUST TO HAVE A JOB.
I work the receiving crew at 2051, in Arizona, and, frankly, I could do a lot worse. My pay is decent enough, especially in an economy thats so uncertain right now, and that doesnt take into account the quarterly bonuses. I get paid vacations, paid leave, paid sick time, reasonable insurance, and stock options... What is there to complain about, really? In my book, nothing. We have our ups and downs, but, overall, I like my job.
I was just reading all the posts. Yeah, its a job. Like all jobs it has it's good and bad parts. I'm not taking sides even though sometimes I think an angry mob is the answer. In the end I work for me, and try to walk a righteous path. The name of the game is fallacy, "live by the sword die by the sword ". Master skills, gain temperance and decide your own path in life. Humans are powerful and are masters of change, whatever the circumstance you can adapt to overcome it. Quench your Wrath and find a better way.
Cashier here, I've worked at my walmart for just over four months and honestly... it's not that bad. Some days are better than others and I want to smack two of my CSM's up side the head when I see them (They cannot manage breaks to save their lives, but never miss their breaks mind you, plus one of them doesn't even want to be a CSM anymore). The pay is what I expected out of a first job 8.50 an hour.
The only complaint I have is that when working a shift that takes me past 10 at night, I have to deal with a bunch of drunks (this is FL, hello) and the night shift CSM doesn't give a rip about what you do. I came back from my late break last night, she didn't even look at my name before telling me to jump on a register... :( so, at five till I left and went home *shrug* that's just how it is. Thanks for the call out number btw, they give you a little card when they hire you but I lost that ~_~ lol I don't honestly know how long I'll stick with this job before trying to move to another company (Target, Publix etc), but I'm okay with it right now and it pays my bills.
I work @ a store in Georgia. I have been employed at Walmart for almost one year and I'm 20 years old, so I feel the expect me to bust my ass, because I'm always the one scheduled short-handed. We are always understaffed in the Garden Center. I am a cashier out there, and I am always left alone to work on Sundays, of all days. Is it really that crucial to pay one more cashier that extra buck, so I don't bust my ass insanely all day?
I have a bladder condition (Cystitis) and shouldn't hold myself at all, in all honesty...yet when I call up front to see if they could send a cashier back there for 5 minutes so I can go to the bathroom...30 minutes later I'm still standing there, holding myself to the point where when I pick up customer's items, it hurts...I've explained this to them...yet let them be swamped up there, they will steal from our department in a second and go into hysterics of we can't spare anyone for them. I always get locked out before they'll send someone back there for my lunch, and customers get angry because it still takes them 15 minutes to get someone back there after I'm locked out of the computer.
Tomorrow, I am scheduled 7-4 as the only cashier in my department...that's a joke! with all the plant trucks we've gotten in, and all the customers buying these plants...we are the busiest part of my store right now, not to mention sundays, people decide to come out to the garden center with $200+ for me to ring up in groceries.
Any other Sunday, I'd suck it up and just deal with it, but I'm actually very sick right now, due to the pollen levels in my area. I've been puking and have a throbbing headache since work today. I'm not sure whether they would prefer me to work with a trashcan right beside me...actually, I'm sure they would - but I'm not! I worked all day today, dizzy and faint from it all, pollen was literally coated on your register area, even after I dusted...definitely not putting myself through this tomorrow with no communication, help or relief.
I love my store, don't get me wrong - and most of the people there...but the ones I have to deal with the most as far as upper level goes, could care less.
I have called out twice already within this 6-month period, and I hate to leave them short-handed as far as the morning goes, but it won't kill them.
i work in store # 3408 , and i have only worked there for 2 months and i can not believe how management acts.. within 3 weeks of me working there i have been called worthless by a co manager and told by another associate to shove papers up my ass in front of a manager and nothing was done. then a couple days ago in our morning meeting , our co manger was talking to us about getting refills at mcdonalds all day , she was talking to us like we were children and thieves, when i have personally talked to the mcdonalds manager about this same subject and he had no problem with it. i am seriously stunned by how this facility is running.and i dont know how people let this happen.
STORE NUMBER 0712 (SCOTTSBORO ALABAMA) SUCKS. I HATE IT THERE. JOBS ARE HARD TO COME BY AND THATS WHY IM STUCK THERE. ITS LIKE EVER SINCE SAM DIED THE CEO'S HAVE JUST RIPPED HIS COMPANY TO HELL AND BACK....
I worked for store 1659 and it was crap I hated it. most the employee's (stockers) don't care and the cashiers are retarded and almost all the managers are crap and don't care about u. or have anger issues an just insult u all day! we are over crowded by shipment and none of the chippers and new mod go out correctly. I was in looking the other day and their is still pallets in the still that haven't been touched in weeks! lol walmart is a joke and just another dollar.
I'm a eight year veteran, just recieved my honorable discharge. I was making four times as much in the military, and twice as much on unemployment. Walmart is byfar not the best paying job I've had. The reasons I will stay with Walmart is job security and full time hours, GL finding that anywhere ATM.
Ive been working at 0765 in the TLE for 7mo now. I'd just like to say no tech should make less than $10 an hour starting off. There is more liability in the shop than anywhere else in the store. No it doesnt take a rocket scientist to do my job... But alot of skilled labor tasks make up the job along with taking excellent care of peoples vehicles.
I make $8.50p/h and only get about 30hrs a week, work my ass off when im there; and yet i have to watch techs making twice as much as me go on 30min breaks 2hr lunches(and never get in trouble) and still they dont put out the same kind of productivity as I do when they're working.
Wal Marts problem is the laziness that most(NOT ALL) long time employees have. Then u have newer people working their butts off to make half as much. Bottom line is; Walmart is lossing out bc guys like me wont stay with a company that wont pay us our worth; especially when the guys around me do half as much work n get paid twice as much.
My store 2460 in little old seaford, delaware is awesome! Thanks to our store manager, James Buttridge we are top dog. All our employees are treated well, given breaks ontime & never asked for unreasonable things. We work as a family, i love it! Bonus was $505 & some change last month. We work hard but we know how to have fun. I have zero complaints and will probably be with Walmart for quite a while :)
All you people that are saying 'well, if you don't like your job, find another' are obviously ignorant. Walmart comes into an area, a big corporation, viciously slashing prices to undercut competition (read: small businesses especially) and put them out of business, therefore replacing higher paid jobs with their much smaller, barely liveable wages. For many, especially in this economy, this leaves Walmart the last man standing and the only place left to get a job.
What does this do to a community? It lowers the median income dramatically, for one! Walmart literally destroys communities and the businesses around them.. you'd have to completely blind to think this is a company that has any objective on its brain aside from profit, profit, profit.. at ANY cost.
This is why stores are severely understaffed, why the benefits are limited, and why the average associate is being paid barely enough to live. This is why Walmart closes it's stores where unions succeed... profit.
And a word about unions.. remember all those anti-union videos you watched when you were hired? Lies and embellishments. The first things a union would do to a walmart store is raise your wage, enforce more hiring and fight to get us better benefits!
All those nice donations walmart gives out? Including to CHAD, where customers are really the ones to donate? These are heavy tax breaks. Going green is another tax break, for a company that already pays much lower taxes than the average american. It's all for profit..
And for those of you that thought Sam Walton would be rolling in his grave had he known the Walmart ongoings of today, you have another thing coming. Mr. Sam himself, upon startup, hired women instead of men, because he knew he could pay them less than what he would have to pay men at that time. What a wonderful company.
Walmart is absolutely deplorable, and if you want to remain ignorant as to what Walmart's real deal is, so be it, but I won't.
stockmen at 1594 and we are understaffed under paid and we get told how to do our job all the time by managment who sit in a chair all day and do nothing....its pushing carts leave us alone and it will get done.
I work in an SC walmart. I have been moved to a better department and am thriving. Sales Floor is the worst place to be.. the pay is crappy and you don't get to do you job, you do everyone else's job that is not there or called out. It was always, "can you go to the back and kill some palletts".. "oh can you go to the stationary dept. and clean up?" Then you get called into the office by another manager who didn't get informed that you were in stationary, "why weren't you at your station!!" I am happy now where I am so I would suggest if you don't like what you are doing.. go somewhere else.. update your preferences and then move.
I work at walmart, and its awful so far. They downright refuse to accomidate my college days, and they pay is terrible (9.40). I have to work a second job to pay the bills, installing windows. They hired me on for a specific position, and I haven't done anything related to it at all. Infact, ilIve been doing construction work the entire time when I was hores for deli. My other job pays more than twice as much, the only reason I havent left is I haven't been there very long.
I work at a Walmart...have been working since March or so. And I do enjoy my job, especially since I get to work in the dept. I wanted to get into. Most of my managers seem to be nice and respectful, and all of my coworkers seem to be helpful as well.
My main problem is the new computer schedule and cutbacks on the schedule. I've got to work front end mostly for my next two weeks rather than being in the dept. I'm assigned to. Apparently, Home Office is cutting hours all around. I just prefer real people doing a schedule rather than a payroll program.
the only thing i like about workin at walmart is that after that first drug test they dont test u again... i get paid good & my coworkers are awesome but being a cashier is extremely tedious. i wudnt recommend this job to anybody, most ppl leave in 4 months of workin on the front end
I am thankful I have a job. I eat healthy and I take advantage of the 10% discount on fruit and vegetables. What more could I ask for? I am content with what I have. Millions of people do not have jobs in this world and I am grateful I have one.
thanks for posting this. i was feeling really bad today and had no idea what the number was. yesterday they forced me to work while i developed an increasingly worse fever...
In response to the anon who claimed wal-mart kills higher paying jobs: It seems to me that the only jobs Wal-mart kills are retail themselves. Wal-mart's wages are fairly competitive with similar retailers, and often small businesses are barely profitable or don't actually hire many employees, so I would assert that Wal-mart just moves the jobs.
hey i work at store 2981 it is total chaos managers change every six month to a year they lie and deceive workers hours are cut all the time there are clicks back stabbing and no team work at all
I was hired in November and quickly thrown out on the floor. I am a cashier and have learned as I went. The fellow cashiers are the only smiling face I see. I keep myself going because I have a family and bills and because I was not fortunate enough to get a job as a Teacher with my completed degree. The customers are the rudest and the CSMs are understaffed so it takes forever to get bills and coins, help a customer, etc...I hate it already. I only get 7.65 an hour with a Bachelor's Degree
I work for a Walmart in Concord, NC for the last year. I had no idea what I was getting into before I started there. I was out of work and had only been a shopper but I never knew it from the inside. From the outside looking in I always surmised that it might a descent gig to have if it became an absolute "have to". After being here I've changed that opinion. I started at 7.50 (just a mere.25 more than NC min.wage) which appeared to be just as painful for them to express(they are always vague about that upfront until you press) as it was for me to hear.I have never worked for that low of a salary in my life but it beat a blank.I figured if I could just hold on I could get to 10.00 an hour in less than 5 years!lol,Not. They seem to be more interested in pitching where you can go in the company to take your mind off the low salary, "Gee our store manger started off as a lowly cart pusher rose through the ranks to become(drum roll),store manager!". When you get there you see the reality. You see the under staffing,"Associates" expected to cover multiple departments i.e work in hardware cover sporting goods and toys, push carts, and help out the front end as a cashier. All this with no economic incentive what so ever, you just get to keep your job. This happens damn near everyday with some exception. I've seen many people promoted that have simply been not qualified both personal temperament wise and professional acumen (guess its "cheaper" for them to do so). Those are the ones that either develop survival mechanisms or step down because expectation most times are too unrealistic for newbies, granted it all depends. Each department with some exceptions has like 5 layers of management over them, store manager, shift(Co)manager, assistant managers, zone manager, department manager, the front end you can add a customer service manager(I think thats it). That is way too many Indian chiefs often times you are pulled in many unrealistic directions without either one consulting each other. You whined up appearing like you are not doing your job because you are subordinate to so many and could be told to be everywhere else except your appointed duty. At Walmart you have a lot a people just getting by and always concerned with "getting into trouble" which brings out a lot of ugly survival instincts. People are always covering their asses here. I've seen this from our "wonderful" store manager when we have "company", right down to the associates. Fear of losing your job I guess is very powerful no matter how upper you are. This is a very real element of the Walmart work environment that is fostered daily. From my very low wages, having Christmas day count as one of my days off instead of a holiday (cold blooded!), my very random weekly work schedule, unaffordable health care, the amount of viable food thrown away there as "garbage" etc. I feel embarrassed for Walmart daily. I've learned Billions don't equate to greatness, but perception does and they work hard to get it.I now know that associates are every bit apart of their wealth paradigm of "Save money live better", we are one of their products, buy low and sell high so the stake holders can live better. Merry Christmas to you too Walmart!Yes I am Looking!
Store 3400 oswego IL I work all over the damn store over night managers move me every night. From paper and chemicals to pets to hardware automotive and tle sporting goods water juice and snacks and sometimes dairy other the. That works pretty straight work 10pm till 7am glad to work with Walmart
I work at 1765 and I've been there for over a year. Pay is okay...but I'm training people that make more than I do. I keep getting passed over for rewards even though the second I get there...I can get a line down in ten minutes. We are understaffed...but the managers are nice. Eh....its a job.
Ha! I find all of this hysterical. I swear most of the people commenting on this are all union yuppies. It's a job!!! Jobs are hard. That's the way they are. They don't pay well off the bat. That's the way jobs are. For goodness sake. You can't get highered onto a minimum wage job and then wine about it! Maybe it's just the DC I work at, (ACCUDENT FREE 7023 HUH!!!) but I like working for Walmart. Pays the bills and I get to work hard for what I'm getting. Most people just can't fricken fathom doing more than the absolute bare minimum for less than 30 bucks an hour. If you don't like your job, quit. If you don't think you get paid enough, work harder so you can get promoted. Or if you're past your six months then fricken transfer to a dc. Then maybe you'll understand what hard work is, you bunch of whiney hippy pansies. I work at Walmart DC 7023 as an order filler, weeken second shift, MPS5. I started at 18.00 dollars per hour, I haven't seen a check under 1,000 dollars yet. You know why? Because my job is worth that much money. I worked in the store, which is where most of these commenters work and it is nothing compared to the work at the dc. You don't deserve more than minimum wage. Everyone in the store just whines and complains anytime they're asked to do ANYTHING. You don't see that shit at a dc. We're all a big happy family. We help eachother, have great managers. It's awesome. I even read one of these comments saying a manager was taking away his hours on paper. BULLSHIT!! No one fucking manages your hours. It's all electronic you idiot. Not to mention my 30 dollar a month insurance. Seriously. If you don't like the job, quit. Walmart doesn't want negative ass associates like you anyways. I challenge you to find a better paying job for the amount of work without any sort of college. Seriously. Try it. At least Walmart thinks youre worth something even without a degree.
Good for you order filler guy. Now try doing cart round ups by yourself with none of those automatic cart pushers. Better yet how about doing 3 departments every night. Do 11-13 hours of freight in 8 hrs. Pretty much run the whole store by yourself cart pushing one hour, then move on to cashiering and then to stocking...oh btw you get a write up when none of those are completely done at the end of the shift and of course no pay differentials. Then blog about how much you really like walmart. There are reasons why people hat walmart and they're all legitimate complaints. It's not because we are lazy and we dont wanna do anything but get paid u dumbass. u dont know shit but be an order filler. And for all the walmart employees who says they love, except for the managers of course you love it you dont do shit, after working there for a while you'll see its shit. What company doesn't take a doctor's note. Seriously an employee had a heart attack at my store and they wrote him up the next time he came in and told him his productivity is down. He was working pets by himself 8-10 pallets a night and he's 60-70 yrs old. i can go on and on about things like this but i guess it's all BULLSHIT according to the order filler guy.
Ive been working for walmart since I was 16, I moved from cashier to service desk to CSM. Im only 18 I would have had the position earlier but I wasnt old enough to sell alcohol. My walmart is great, when I see other people complain about how bad their store is I cant imagine it. I guarantee you our store is built on customer satisfaction and we have the bonus to show it. Yea we have our days but I think that goes for every company. Our walmart is like a big family, were always there for each other when an associates family member passes away to when someone has a new baby. Walmart provides me with great opportunities I was recently talked to about getting trained for asst. manager, I believe if you work hard it will show and people will start noticing. Although I think walmart is a great job nursing is what calls me and I know that if for some reason I decide maybe nursing really wasnt what I wanted to do I have been told numerous of times the door will always be open for me. (:
i've worked at 4 different walmarts, mainly bacause they dont treat you very well. the first store didnt get bonuses....at ALL! the second i had a racist manager who thought that because i was white and blonde i grew up rich and didnt know how to work. the third was decent. the one i am at now is horrible. i'm an unloader, and it seems to be the job that everyone craps on. apparantly we're lazy,we cant do our jobs, and working 15 hr shifts isnt that bad, because the managers say "well we work 12 hr shifts all the time, suck it up". Yeah... well you sit on your ASS all day, that isnt work. Plus our store manager literally only cares about his bonus every year instead of keeping the store well stafted.... well stafted.

Nice blog ... thx for sharing with us this great content. If You are looking for more info about walmart associates.. read this art:
Wal-mart Associates
FLEETING THE VAGRANCIES OF PROFIT
Remember those old codgers George and Sam--that´s Bush and Walton--
Each patting of the other´s back as if there were no salt in
The vasty earth except for those who both knew how to profit--
Yet what have they bequeathed us, please? That perch, you must come off it.
So both colluded in a way to take jobs that paid better
And send abroad--to China--hands that knit and purl that sweater,
Not that (you understand) I harbor feelings as begrudge
My good Chinese friends--pungyomen--who mostly toil and trudge:
But I resent the profiteers that toy with persons´ lives,
As make employees bondsmen that are trapped within the hives
Of labor without any true compassion to console ´em,
Fulfilling tasks tout de suite in modulated rank and column.
No, George and Sam in their flim-flam may slap each other´s backs,
Despite which mien of friendliness we see between the cracks:
It was all talk how all of it was good for all of us,
But distribution´s mean unkindly treated many thus.
Again so tell me what has each of these men left behind?
A fortune for their children to distribute to the wind;
Disasters, turmoil, trouble as ensue, without some charm
To compensate depletion having pilfered all the farm--
So the majority will starve for bread, save Ali Baba
Come open up the store--Bush had Ambassador Al-Sabah
Hands overhead clasped to congratulate his war Kuwaiti,
While Walton saw communities reach poverty like Haiti.
Nor either George nor Sam nor neither Sam nor George (you notice?)
More than hot air has left us having flapped his epiglottis,
For plastic goods and oil muck as pollute land, sea and air,
Are but the legacy with us these rich men had to share.
So should we then admire them having made their buck, held power?
The vagrancies of profit do not last beyond an hour--
While it is only by the good a man has left behind
Eternal valuation we esteem so as we find.
(Nor don´t supply me with a further cause for umbrage, unction--
The children left behind is but a biological function,
So one may swagger snidely with a codpiece for compunction,
The heavens do commend neither the juncture nor the junction.)
In an economy that is pretty unstable at the moment, Wal-Mart is actually a pretty safe job to have.
Sure, you're nothing but another paycheck to them (albiet an underpaid one), but I just don't find it all bad to work there.
So that's my two cents.
Can't wait to be done with my degree and get outta there.
store 2429 REPRESENT RECIEVING CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good post.
I work at store 0061 and it's okay, I am betting paid quite a bit over minimum wage to be a cashier when alot of other cashiers in other jobs are not making as much
I am guessing your wal-mart expierence is based on your managers, our store manager is great and we have alot of employee's who have been working for 10+ years but some of our managers and csm's are jerks
I can see why people like it and why they don't but as far as companies go they don't have to give you a myshare and they don't have to give you benifits or anything like it so suck it up and work, alot of companies do much worse
Well said.......
i work for 1959, fuck that place, managers are retarded!!! but gotta love the gm receiving crew!!
To the Shmucker....
I'm 22 years old. Married, and I work for Wal Mart. I'm a Department Manager, and I own a home.
So there, bitch.

3560.................................
i work at store 2045 and it sucks does any body els that works in receving not get a lunch or not go on lunch till realy late or bin told that a 4000 pc truck hast to be done in two hours or els ur not getting lunch and then when they tell u no lunch they trie to coach you for not taking it after they just told u u couldent
Cart pushers are treated like human trash. Dont contribute to it, we are vengeful folk.

To the Cart Pusher Guy up top there^
I feel bad that your in a store that offers no help.

When I look at the way some of my elder co-workers that have been there for 10 or 20 years, and now they can't give the same quality of work they are not good anymore, when I look at my future at walmart i see it very dark,I give all to my job, Please appreciate what we do and don't treat as garbage that you throw out when you want.
what is the number to call out for walmart store # 2380. eddystone, PA??
Thanks for this! Now I can call out instead of being an hour late and dripping wet from walking in the rain.
Store 3583, Glenmont, New York
All I wanna say is walmart dont care about us
who is john walton?
He asks the shopkeeper, "Does your dog bite?"
The shopkeeper says, "No, my dog does not bite."
The hamper tries to favourite the dog and the dog bites him.
"Ouch!" He says, "I expectation you said your dog does not bite!"
The shopkeeper replies, "That is not my dog!"

Like all jobs
it has it's good and bad parts.

Cashier here,
I've worked at my walmart for just over four months and honestly... it's not that bad.
Thanks for the call out number btw, they give you a little card when they hire you but I lost that ~_~ lol
I don't honestly know how long I'll stick with this job before trying to move to another company (Target, Publix etc), but I'm okay with it right now and it pays my bills.
I have zero complaints and will probably be with Walmart for quite a while :)
fuck cbl's... #2294 wuz guud

Privet s alpha centavri. Mi prileteli s mirom.
the only thing i like about workin at walmart is that after that first drug test they dont test u again... i get paid good & my coworkers are awesome but being a cashier is extremely tedious. i wudnt recommend this job to anybody, most ppl leave in 4 months of workin on the front end
ive got one thing to say and ill make it short and sweet... FUCK WALMART!
Thanks for the information as I had to look it up this morning. I really wanted to go back to bed because I'm so sick.
Wal-Mart literally treats us like a number. This is the proof. I like working there, but I don't like junk like this.
WELL GOOD
I am thankful I have a job. I eat healthy and I take advantage of the 10% discount on fruit and vegetables. What more could I ask for? I am content with what I have. Millions of people do not have jobs in this world and I am grateful I have one.
thanks for posting this. i was feeling really bad today and had no idea what the number was. yesterday they forced me to work while i developed an increasingly worse fever...
we're seriously lacking on cashiers.
fuck'em.

In response to the anon who claimed wal-mart kills higher paying jobs: It seems to me that the only jobs Wal-mart kills are retail themselves. Wal-mart's wages are fairly competitive with similar retailers, and often small businesses are barely profitable or don't actually hire many employees, so I would assert that Wal-mart just moves the jobs.
hey i work at store 2981 it is total chaos managers change every six month to a year they lie and deceive workers hours are cut all the time there are clicks back stabbing and no team work at all
Hi
I read this post 2 times. It is very useful.
Pls try to keep posting.
Let me show other source that may be good for community.

Best regards
Jonathan.
